Red Roses: 07
3RD PERSON'S POV
The early morning light filtered through the windows of the old house, casting long shadows on the worn wooden floor. Ali sat on the couch, her mind heavy with thoughts of what lay ahead. The creature was resting nearby, its eyes closed but its senses alert. The tranquility of the moment was shattered by the sudden ringing of Ali’s phone.
She picked it up, seeing Conrad's name flashing on the screen. Her heart skipped a beat as she answered, a sense of dread settling in her chest. "Conrad?"
"Ali, listen to me carefully," Conrad's voice was urgent, strained. "The organization found your mother. They... they killed her."
Ali's breath caught in her throat, her vision blurring with sudden tears. "No... no, that can't be true."
"I'm sorry, Ali," Conrad continued, his voice heavy with guilt. "I tried to warn her, to keep her safe, but they were too quick. And there's more. The organization knows where you are. Their soldiers are on their way. You need to get out of there, now."
Ali's grief quickly turned to rage, her hands clenching into fists. "Let them come," she said, her voice cold and determined. "I'll be ready."
"Ali, don't be reckless. You have to hide, to survive—"
But Ali had already ended the call, her mind focused on the imminent threat. She turned to the creature, who had awoken and was watching her intently. "They're coming for us. We need to be ready."
The creature nodded, standing up. Ali felt a surge of power coursing through her veins, her muscles tensing with anticipation. She had always known she was different, stronger than anyone else. Her parents had tried to hide it, to protect her, but now, it was time to embrace her true nature.
She moved through the house, gathering what few supplies she could find. The old place had seen better days, but it had solid walls and a few strategic vantage points. She could make a stand here, at least for a while.
As she prepared, her thoughts kept drifting back to her mother. The pain of loss was almost unbearable, but she couldn't afford to break down now. She had to be strong, to fight. For her mother, for herself, and for the creature who had become her ally.
The sound of approaching vehicles broke the silence, and Ali's heart began to pound. She looked at the creature, whose eyes glowed with determination. "Stay close to me," she said. "We'll face them together."
The soldiers arrived swiftly, their black uniforms blending with the shadows of the trees. Ali watched from a second-story window, counting at least a dozen of them. They moved with precision, surrounding the house. Ali knew this wouldn't be easy, but she was ready.
With a deep breath, she leaped from the window, landing effortlessly on the ground below. The soldiers were taken aback, but they quickly raised their weapons. Ali didn't give them a chance to fire. She charged at them, her movements a blur of speed and strength.
Her fists collided with the first soldier, sending him flying into a tree with a sickening crunch. Another soldier aimed his rifle at her, but Ali was too fast. She grabbed the barrel, bending it with ease before disarming him with a swift kick. The man crumpled to the ground, unconscious.
The creature joined the fray, its powerful limbs tearing through the ranks of soldiers. Together, they were unstoppable. Ali's strength was unlike anything the soldiers had ever encountered. She moved with the grace of a dancer and the power of a beast, her every strike precise and devastating.
One soldier managed to get a shot off, the bullet grazing Ali's arm. She barely felt it, her body seemingly impervious to pain. With a snarl, she grabbed the soldier by the throat, lifting him off the ground. "Who sent you?" she demanded, her voice a low growl.
The soldier gasped for air, his eyes wide with fear. "The organization... they want you... and the creature."
Ali tightened her grip, her anger boiling over. "They'll have to try harder than this." She threw the soldier to the ground, knocking him out cold.
The remaining soldiers began to retreat, their resolve broken. Ali watched them go, her chest heaving with exertion. She turned to the creature, who was panting heavily but otherwise unharmed. "We need to move," she said. "They'll send more."
The creature nodded, its eyes reflecting the same determination that burned within Ali. They couldn't stay here any longer. The old house had served its purpose, but now, they needed to find a new refuge.
As they gathered their belongings, Ali felt a strange sense of calm wash over her. She had always been strong, but now, she understood why. Her body wasn't like a human's. She was something more, something powerful. And she would use that power to protect herself and the creature.
They left the house just as the first light of dawn began to break through the trees. Ali led the way, her senses heightened, her body ready for anything. The organization had taken her mother, but they wouldn't take her freedom. She would fight them, and she would win.
They moved quickly through the forest, the creature following closely behind. Ali's mind raced with thoughts of their next move. They needed to find a place to hide, to regroup. But more importantly, they needed to find a way to strike back at the organization.
As they traveled, Ali couldn't help but think about her mother. The pain of her loss was still raw, but it fueled her determination. Her mother had always believed in her, had always known she was special. Now, it was up to Ali to live up to that belief.
The day passed in a blur of movement and planning. They stayed off the main roads, avoiding any signs of civilization. Ali knew the organization would be looking for them, but she was confident in her ability to stay one step ahead.
By nightfall, they had found a new hiding place: an abandoned cabin deep in the heart of the forest. It was small and in disrepair, but it was hidden and secure. Ali quickly set to work making it livable, while the creature stood guard.
As they settled in for the night, Ali couldn't help but feel a sense of hope. They had survived the organization's attack, and they had each other. With their combined strength, she knew they could face whatever came next.
She sat by the fire, her thoughts drifting back to her childhood. She remembered the moments when her strength had frightened her when she had wondered if she was a monster. But now, she understood that her strength was a gift. It had saved her today, and it would continue to protect her.
As the fire crackled and the night grew darker, Ali felt a renewed sense of purpose. She glanced at the creature, a smirk forming on her lips.
"You know," she said, her voice teasing, "I didn't capture you for the money. I did it for my mom. Now that she's gone, the money seems pointless."
The creature tilted its head, its eyes curious.
Ali's smirk faltered, sorrow creeping into her expression. "She believed in me, you know? She thought I could do anything. Capture creatures, save the world... Now, I just feel lost."
The creature reached out, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. Its touch was surprisingly gentle, a reminder of the bond they had formed.
Ali chuckled bitterly. "Look at me, getting all sentimental. But seriously, what do I do now? Just keep running? Fighting?"
The creature's eyes softened, as if understanding her pain. It nodded slowly, its silent assurance giving Ali a sense of calm.
"Yeah, I know," Ali said, her voice barely above a whisper. "We have to keep going. For her."
They would come for her again, she was sure of that. But next time, she would be ready. She would fight with everything she had, and she would protect those she cared about.
With a deep breath, Ali stood up, her eyes fixed on the horizon. The journey ahead would be difficult, but she was ready. She had found her strength, her purpose. And with the creature by her side, she knew they could face anything.
As the first light of dawn began to break, Ali and the creature set out once more. They were a force to be reckoned with, and they would stop at nothing to take down the organization that had taken so much from them.
