Chapter 15 HAVE I FOUND YOU, FLIGHTLESS BIRD?

PRINCESS
The sun dipped low on the horizon, casting a warm, golden glow over the university campus. Excited chatter filled the air as graduates and their families gathered, mingling with the scent of freshly cut grass and the aroma of food from nearby stalls. I stood near the entrance of the auditorium, a small bouquet of flowers clutched in my hands, eagerly awaiting CJ's arrival.
Today held a special significance. CJ was graduating from college, and I had the honor of joining his family for the celebration. It felt surreal to be here amidst so much joy and accomplishment. My own graduation seemed like a distant memory, overshadowed by the struggles and hardships that had followed. But today, I was determined to be present, to bask in CJ's happiness and share in this milestone with him.
"Princess!" A familiar voice called out, breaking through my thoughts.
I turned and saw CJ waving at me from across the courtyard, a wide grin spreading across his face. Dressed in his graduation gown and cap, he looked every bit the proud graduate. His family stood beside him, their expressions radiating pride and joy. I couldn't help but smile back as I made my way over to join them.
"Congratulations, CJ," I said warmly, handing him the bouquet. "You did it."
"Thanks, Princess," he replied, his eyes sparkling with excitement as he accepted the flowers. "I'm so glad you're here."
We spent the next few hours immersed in celebration with CJ's family. His parents greeted me warmly, their gratitude evident as they welcomed me into their circle. His younger siblings, full of energy and curiosity, eagerly bombarded us with questions and stories. Together, we captured countless photos, shared laughter, and indulged in a delicious meal that felt more like a feast of shared happiness than mere sustenance.
As the evening wore on, I found myself caught up in the joyous atmosphere. Surrounded by CJ's family, I couldn't help but reflect on how far I had come from the darkness that once consumed me. The contrast between my past struggles and the warmth of this moment was stark, a reminder of the healing power of love and companionship.
CJ's mother, a kind and gracious woman with a warm smile, leaned over to me during dinner. "Thank you for being here," she said softly, her eyes filled with genuine appreciation. "CJ has talked so much about you. It means a lot to us."
I felt a swell of emotion in my chest, touched by her words. "I'm grateful to be here," I replied sincerely, meeting her gaze with a heartfelt smile. "CJ means a lot to me too."
Throughout the evening, CJ never left my side, his hand finding mine whenever we had a chance to steal a quiet moment together. Amidst the festivities, we exchanged knowing glances and shared smiles that spoke volumes of the bond between us. It was as if each touch, each shared moment, whispered promises of a future we were building together—one filled with love, support, and shared dreams.
As the night deepened, we found ourselves strolling through the campus, away from the crowds and noise of the celebration. The campus was bathed in the soft glow of street lamps, casting long shadows on the pathways we walked. The air was cool and crisp, a welcome contrast to the warmth of earlier festivities.
"You know," CJ began, breaking the comfortable silence between us, "I couldn't have gotten through these years without you."
I looked at him, my heart swelling with affection. "You did all the hard work, CJ," I replied softly. "I just... I'm glad I could be here to support you."
He stopped walking and turned to face me, his expression serious yet filled with tenderness. "You've done more than just support me, Princess," he said earnestly, his voice carrying a weight of sincerity that touched me deeply. "You've been my anchor, my light in the darkest of times."
I reached out and gently squeezed his hand, overwhelmed by his words. "CJ..."
"No, let me finish," he insisted gently, his gaze holding mine. "You've shown me what it means to love and be loved unconditionally. You've taught me to believe in myself when I doubted, to see the beauty in life even when it seemed bleak. And most of all, you've shown me that no matter what challenges we face, we can overcome them together."
Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes as his words washed over me, filling me with a profound sense of gratitude and love. In that moment, surrounded by the quiet beauty of the night and the depth of CJ's emotions, I felt an overwhelming sense of peace.
"I love you, CJ," I whispered, my voice barely above a whisper but filled with unwavering certainty.
He smiled, his eyes shimmering with emotion. "I love you too, Princess."
We stood there, wrapped in each other's embrace, the world around us fading into insignificance as we savored the sweetness of the moment. The weight of our shared journey, from tentative beginnings to this profound connection, hung between us like a delicate thread woven with trust, understanding, and boundless affection.
Eventually, we resumed our walk, hands intertwined as we wandered through the familiar paths of the campus. With each step, I felt a renewed sense of hope and purpose, knowing that together, we were creating a future filled with endless possibilities.
As we approached a quiet garden tucked away behind the library, CJ stopped and turned to me, his eyes gleaming mischievously in the moonlight.
"You know," he began playfully, a grin tugging at the corners of his lips, "I never thought graduation day could be this perfect."
I laughed softly, the sound echoing in the stillness of the night. "Neither did I," I admitted, feeling a sense of wonder at how far we had come.
He stepped closer, his hands gently framing my face as he leaned in to kiss me—a kiss filled with tenderness, love, and the promise of a future intertwined. In that stolen moment, surrounded by the quiet beauty of the garden and the warmth of CJ's embrace, I knew without a doubt that this was where I belonged.
The night stretched on, a canvas painted with moments of shared laughter, whispered confessions, and dreams whispered under the canopy of stars. With each passing hour, as the world slept and the campus embraced the stillness of night, we remained cocooned in our own world—a world where love was the guiding light, and every heartbeat resonated with the promise of forever.
As dawn approached, casting a soft glow over the horizon, we found ourselves standing at the edge of a new beginning. Hand in hand, hearts entwined, we faced the future with unwavering hope and a love that had weathered storms and emerged stronger.
Together, we turned the page to a new chapter—one filled with endless possibilities, shared dreams, and a love that would continue to grow with each passing day. And as the sun rose, illuminating the promise of tomorrow, we walked hand in hand into the embrace of a future where love was the greatest adventure of all.
As the evening wore on and the party began to wind down, CJ pulled me aside.
"Hey, Princess," he said, his voice soft. "Do you want to go for a ride? Just the two of us?"
I nodded, feeling a flutter of excitement in my chest. "I'd love to."
We said our goodbyes to his family and made our way to his car. The night air was cool and refreshing as we drove through the city, the streets illuminated by the soft glow of streetlights. We rolled down the windows, letting the breeze whip through our hair, and played our favorite songs on the radio.
"Where are we going?" I asked, glancing over at CJ.
He smiled, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "It's a surprise."
We drove for what felt like hours, talking and laughing, sharing our hopes and dreams for the future. It was in these moments that I felt truly alive, free from the weight of my past. CJ had a way of making everything seem brighter, more hopeful.
Eventually, we arrived at a secluded spot overlooking the city. The view was breathtaking, the twinkling lights below us creating a magical, almost otherworldly scene.
"Wow," I whispered, stepping out of the car. "This is beautiful."
CJ joined me, wrapping an arm around my shoulders. "I thought you'd like it. It's one of my favorite places."
We stood there in silence for a while, taking in the view. The world felt vast and full of possibilities, and for the first time in a long time, I felt a sense of peace.
"Thank you, CJ," I said, leaning my head against his shoulder. "For everything."
He looked down at me, his expression soft and tender. "You don't have to thank me, Princess. I'm just glad you're here."
As we stood there, watching the city lights flicker below us, I realized that I had found something I had been searching for in all those different realities: a sense of belonging, of connection. In every universe, I had been destined to struggle, to feel lost and alone. But here, with CJ by my side, I felt like I had finally found my way home.
"Let's make a promise," CJ said suddenly, breaking the silence.
I looked up at him, curious. "What kind of promise?"
"Let's promise to always be there for each other," he said, his voice earnest. "No matter what happens, we'll face it together."
I smiled, feeling a warmth spread through my chest. "I promise."
And as we sealed our promise with a hug, I knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, we would face them together. Because in this universe, in this reality, we had each other.
