Chapter 1 : The new world

I was 21, and maybe I still am. I have no idea where I was, or what had happened, all I know is I woke up somewhere in some place on earth, still breathing at least.
_______________...
The shade of green and the canopy of leaves and branches greeted my eyes. The world spinning in my head making my throat cramping with a bitter and bile taste until I had to shove myself to my left, throwing up every single thing I had in my stomach. The things do not trigger me more than a thought I was somewhere I don't know.
The taste lingers longer on my tongue as I look around at the unknown place. Trying to rack my mind only growl and explosion were what spared me an answer. The sore wet body, cuts, and bruises here and there don't help as I barely remember what happened for me to be here.
It's still daylight, but I doubt it will be in a few more hours.
I pushed myself up, seeing a bridge and a lake in front of me, the water was darker with something brown and red to call it water, something flickering in my head, I was driving, and there were cars in the middle of the bridge?. And there are people... And I jump?
My head feels like someone just throws a hard punch. It's spinning and throbbing so bad. I fell to my knee, it hurt so fucking bad. My eyes blurred for a second as the pounding was unending in my head.
I need a place to sleep.
I pushed myself up, forcing myself to find some help. I looked around it was just a river, an old bridge, sturdy enough to stand there for some more decades. And a whole forest, thick and barely let me see the sunlight as the branches stretch as much as they can.
I looked around to see what I could do to find some help. It would be better if there's someone here, save me some hurting time to go search for one.
Not far from me, there's a trail that leads to somewhere deeper into the woods. I decided it would be good enough to prove there are people around here. I walked with my sore body, I doubt I was walking, I was limping with my head throbbing killing me.
It was darker here than the river. I took more steps deeper before a harsh growl sounded somewhere in front of me. Don't want to be dumb, so I choose to hide before confirming what makes sound so inhumane. Passing a few branches, the leaves and branches noise filled the air before I heard another stomping this way.
Sure enough, there's a person. Except this one doesn't look like one. The torn shirt, and blood smeared everywhere on his body can show. There's a huge wound on his right leg, closer to my view. With the pants ripped from his waist on his right, hanging dearly to that belt. The wound was so deep I could see the bone at the center. It wasn't a slicing wound, more like a gnawing one.
I want to wonder what makes him hurt and shabby like that until his neck snaps right to my hiding place. I almost let out a terrified gasp to see the hole where the eyeball fit unless his was empty with dried blood. His face is not what I want to call a face, it's full of wounds, and what ring in my head was ' a zombie'
How the fuck can I remember that but not my other important memories?.
He, or should I address, the zombie, was limping right towards me, the bit of rotten flesh hanging off his mouth probably from eating something I don't want to know.
His limping became faster until he broke into a run, I barely registered his bleeding figured growling madly. I forced my body into a run, and didn't turn back to see if he was still behind, chasing me.
After some time, I passed what seemed like a broken down village with bodies scattered on the floor with a lot of missing bits of flesh. Considering the growling in the air, I took it as a sign there's more in that village than I can see, more things like I just saw back there.
A stomping behind me, clearly was his.
So, this village is in fact, infected.
Taking a detour far out of the village, I sprint as much as my body is capable, as if understanding my situation, my head stopped pounding a while ago, I don't remember when exactly.
..........
The sky is getting darker the moment I stop for the tenth time, to change my breath. That zombie literally chased me for a mile before I outran him. With that wound, I was surprised he could do so, if he was that capable, what about the others that don't limp or have that huge wounds?
Spare me some time, my curious head. I doubt I want an answer now.
It's dangerous to be out here, especially when it's dark and I barely see them. But, it was nothing but woods, and for a hike I ran, I didn't see any village except the one run by zombies.
Alerting me more. My head caught some unnerving possibilities that I didn't want to be in.
I doubt I'll find a place any time soon, considering this thick woods. So, I decided to climb a tree, as high as I thought I could save myself from them.
And it is dark at night, I thought I could see any light from any village up here, but no. It was a vast darkness.
