Chapter 5

My heart sank as I saw the person walking, but as I got a better look, I realized it was just a random guy.
"What the...?" I muttered, feeling a wave of relief wash over me.
"What's wrong? Are you okay?" Luna asked, her voice laced with concern.
"Ah, sorry. I'm going to the bathroom," I mumbled, rushing away without another word.
In the bathroom, I washed my hands and splashed water on my face. "Dang, I thought that was him," I scoffed, a smile tugging at the corner of my lips.
I couldn't deny a surge of happiness. Why was I happy? Had I lost my mind? Why would I be happy at someone who cheated on me?
The school bell rang, snapping me out of my thoughts. I quickly dried my face and hurried back to our classroom.
"What happened? Tell me, Miyuki, is something wrong?" Luna said.
"Nothing," I forced a smile, hoping she wouldn't notice the truth hidden behind it.
I could feel Luna's growing frustration at my evasiveness. Miwa had already returned to their classroom, and the teacher was starting his lesson.
* Time skip*
"Miyuki, let's go home together," Luna said, her voice bright with excitement. I agreed, and we walked out of the school together.
"Hey! Higashi! Tachibana!" Miwa's voice called out, making us turn around. There he was, with Akiyama and his girlfriend.
"Can I go with you guys? I'm a third wheel to them," Miwa asked, a playful glint in his eyes. Luna nodded, and they started talking, a comfortable connection forming between them.
They looked cute together, I had to admit. And surprisingly, I felt at ease around Miwa, even though we had just met.
"Let's go buy some food, I'm hungry. Don't worry, it's on me," Miwa offered.
"Sure," I replied quickly because it's free.
"But let me call my mom first. I gotta ask permission before going," I said, pulling out my phone.
I called my mom, explaining that I would be out with some friends. She asked me to talk to one of them, and Miwa stepped forward, politely explaining that he would treat us. Mom agreed, but reminded me not to be late.
"Miwa Senpaiii~ will you treat me too?" Akiyama's girlfriend chirped while clinging to his arm.
Miwa looked unamused, simply nodding at her. I had a feeling he wasn't too fond of her. When she entered the room earlier, his expression had shifted from happy to annoyed.
We stopped at a dessert cafe. Luna was thrilled, as was Miwa. Akiyama's girlfriend joined them, ordering right away.
"Of all cafes, why the dessert one?" I asked, my brow furrowed.
" Is there a problem with it?" Akiyama chuckled, a slight smile playing on his lips.
I flinched, startled by his sudden appearance behind me.
"Oh, sorry," he apologized.
"It's okay, it's nothing," I replied, entering the cafe. I needed to keep my distance from him. He had a girlfriend, and I respected their relationship. Boundaries were important.
"What do you like, Tachibana?" Miwa asked, turning to me.
"Oh, no, she doesn't like sweets. I forgot to tell you," Luna said, looking regretful.
"Why didn't you tell me? Don't worry, we'll go to a non-sweet place after we order," Miwa assured me, a warm smile gracing his lips.
A flutter of excitement stirred in my stomach. Luna was the only one who had ever treated me before. Others had offered, but I had always felt uncomfortable around them.
They finished their orders. Luna got a strawberry cheesecake and a strawberry crepe, while Miwa ordered cinnamon rolls and apple pie. Akiyama's girlfriend got churros and a strawberry milkshake. Akiyama and I were the only ones who didn't order. I guess we both didn't have a sweet tooth.
We left the cafe and found a burger shop nearby.
"You can choose anything," Miwa said, his voice reassuring.
"Anything?" I looked at him, my eyes widening.
"Yes, anything. And how many would you like?" Miwa laughed, a hint of amusement in his eyes.
"Really? Thank you!" I exclaimed, my eyes sparkling. He nodded.
"Sir, I would like to have two beef burgers, two chicken burgers, and a coke, please," I said cheerfully, my voice brimming with excitement. Miwa sweat-smiled, clearly surprised by my order.
Akiyama ordered two beef burgers, and we sat down at a table.
"Wow... Are you not concerned about getting fat?" Akiyama's girlfriend asked, her eyes fixed on the mountain of burgers I had ordered.
"Not really, I don't gain weight quickly," I replied, my voice calm. I hesitated to remove my mask, but eventually, I did, carefully starting to eat. I made sure to eat in a way that wouldn't reveal my teeth, pretending to use my phone.
"You're pretty," Miwa said, his voice soft as he took a bite of his cake.
"You too," he replied, looking at Luna.
"Tsk," Akiyama's girlfriend mumbled, her voice laced with jealousy. I wasn't sure if the others heard her.
"What's your name?" Luna asked, her voice curious.
"My name is Emiko Sato," she grinned, her eyes sparkling.
"No need to introduce yourselves to me, my darling already told me, so don't bother." she said, clinging to Akiyama's arm.
Luna looked annoyed, and Miwa's expression remained unamused.
My mom called, and I excused myself to answer.
"Miyu? Can you buy me some burgers? I was craving them," Mom said.
"Great, we're here at a burger shop. Oh, and stop watching those mukbang videos already. You'll just starve yourself," I sighed, rolling my eyes.
I ended the call and was about to re-enter the burger shop when a familiar voice called out to me.
"Yuki?" I turned quickly, my heart skipping a beat. There, standing before me, was Usui.
