Chapter 15 Ming-ling Longest Night
" Here, take this", Xiao Wei stated as he handed her a glass of water before he was interrupted by a phone buzzing in his pocket.
" I will be back," Xiao Wei stated as he left Ming-ling on the couch. He skipped two gulps of water and swallowed it before she placed the glass back on the coffee table that was next to where she sat. A few minutes later she felt tired, and she laid herself on the couch before falling into a deep slumber.
As the last of the mourners dispersed and the Montana mansion fell silent, Ming-Ling found herself alone in the darkness of her grief-stricken home. The weight of her father's absence pressed heavily upon her, and as she woke up, darkness covered the place, and the mansion was filled with complete silence and emptiness. She made her way upstairs, her steps slow before she reached her room and she removed her shoes before she climbed into her bed, uneasy with a sense of unleashed in her eyes.
As Ming-Ling drifted into a fitful sleep, she found herself standing once again beside her father's freshly dug grave. The moon hung low in the sky, casting an eerie glow over the scene. Ming-Ling's heart raced as she looked around, searching for some sign of her father's presence.
Suddenly, a chill swept through the air, and Ming-Ling felt a cold hand grip her shoulder. She turned, her breath catching in her throat, to see her father standing before her. His eyes bore into hers with a haunting intensity, filled with accusation and sorrow.
Why did you let this happen, Ming-Ling? You could have saved me, but you didn't even try. Mr hung her father's voice echoed through the darkness, sending shivers downpine. Ming-Ling's eyes filled with tears as she reached out to touch her father's face, but he recoiled, his features contorted with anger.
"You abandoned me, Ming-Ling, You left me to die alone," he whispered, his voice tinged with betrayal.
"No, Father, I would never..." Ming-Ling protested, her voice trembling with emotion. But her words were lost in the howling wind, drowned out by the echoes of her father's accusations.
As Ming-Ling struggled to make sense of the surreal nightmare unfolding around her, she felt a sense of overwhelming guilt wash over her. Had she truly failed her father in his hour of need? Could she have done more to save him?
The ground beneath Ming-Ling's feet began to tremble, and she stumbled backward, her heart pounding in her chest.
"Father, please forgive me, I didn't mean to let you down." Ming-ling pleaded, her voice choked with tears. But her father's ghostly form only glared at her, his expression filled with anguish and despair.
"It's too late for apologies, Ming-Ling. You'll never escape the consequences of your actions." he whispered, his voice fading into the darkness.
With a strangled cry, Ming-Ling jolted awake, her body drenched in sweat. She lay in bed, trembling and disoriented, the echoes of her father's accusations still ringing in her ears. It had only been a dream, she told herself, but the sense of dread lingered like a shadow over her thoughts.
Unable to shake the feeling of guilt that weighed heavily upon her heart, Ming-Ling buried her face in her hands and wept. She felt utterly alone, trapped in a nightmare from which there seemed to be no escape.
Xiao Wei stepped off the private jet, his mind buzzing with anticipation and dread. The crisp morning air greeted him as he made his way through the bustling streets of the city toward his company headquarters. He had received a call from one of his detectives with news that sent a chill down his spine – evidence suggesting that Mr. Hung, Ming-Ling's father, may not have died by accident, but rather, was the victim of foul play.
As Xiao Wei entered the sleek glass doors of his company's building, his heart raced with a mixture of apprehension and determination. He had to know the truth, no matter the cost.
In his office, Xiao Wei anxiously awaited the arrival of his detective. The minutes stretched into eternity as he paced the room, his thoughts consumed by the possibility of uncovering a dark conspiracy surrounding Mr. Hung's death.
Finally, there was a knock at the door, and Xiao Wei's detective entered, a look of grim determination etched upon his face.
Xiao Wei, Sir, I have some troubling news.I've been conducting a thorough investigation into Mr. Hung's death, and I've uncovered evidence that suggests foul play. He began, his voice low and urgent.
Xiao Wei's breath caught in his throat as he listened intently to the detective's words.
"What kind of evidence?" Xiao Wei inquired, his voice barely above a whisper.
The detective handed Xiao Wei a file containing photographs, witness statements, and forensic reports.
There are inconsistencies in the witness accounts from the night of Mr. Hung's death, and the forensic evidence indicates that the scene may have been staged to look like an accident, he explained.
Xiao Wei's hands trembled as he flipped through the file, his mind racing with a whirlwind of emotions. Anger, disbelief, and a gnawing sense of guilt clawed at his conscience. He had known Mr. Hung for years and had considered him a mentor and friend. The thought that his death may have been orchestrated by someone he trusted was almost too much to bear.
"Who could have done this?" Xiao Wei muttered, his voice thick with emotion.
The detective hesitated before responding.
I can't say for certain, but rumors are circulating in the village – whispers of jealousy, greed, and long-held grudges. Someone close to Mr. Hung may have had a motive to harm him, he admitted.
Xiao Wei's mind raced as he considered the implications of the detective's words. Could Ming-Ling be in danger? Was she aware of the danger lurking in the shadows, waiting to strike?
"We need to find out who's behind this," Xiao Wei declared, his voice firm with determination.
We owe it to Mr. Hung and his family to uncover the truth.
The detective nodded in agreement, his expression grim.
I'll continue to investigate, but we must proceed with caution. Whoever is responsible for Mr. Hung's death may be dangerous, and we don't know how far they're willing to go to keep their secrets hidden. The detective started before he made his way out, leaving Xiao Wei on his office seat as he was lost in his thoughts before his thoughts were interrupted by his secretary.
