Chapter 11 A new home
AITHNE'S POV
"My lady," I raised my gaze from the book I was reading and turned to Jeyre beside me. "We've arrived at the border of Fieryflames Pack, Eris must return now before your absence is noticed." She continued and I nodded.
"I agree." I said, just as a footman came and opened the carriage door and Jeyre alighted.
"My apologies, my lady." Eris appeared in front of the open carriage and bowed to the waist at me. "It would have been a pleasure to see you through to your destination but I must return to Mooncrest and report my presence before the Alpha."
"I understand," I smiled. "Thanks for your selfless services to me and my late mate so far. Your efforts would never be forgotten, Eris."
"It's been a pleasure to serve you as well, my lady." Eris lifted his gaze towards his sister briefly. "Thanks for looking after my sister and I and giving us a home even after the death of our mother." He paused, and Jeyre looked emotional. "Your absence at the pack house would be greatly missed." Eris continued and I swallowed uncomfortably, feeling the sudden build of a painful lump in my throat.
"You both are my family now, and I would never forget all you've done for me." I said and both siblings bowed to the waist this time.
"We would forever be grateful."
I managed a smile at the both before I removed my attention from them, giving the siblings privacy to say their goodbyes to each other.
It was a matter of choice for Jeyre to come with me to Elgarion, and just as I had known she would, she insisted on leaving the pack with me.
And so, we had journeyed once it was past noon. My father, Varda and all the entire members of the pack had been busy making preparations for the full moon festival and it was the perfect moment for me to make my escape.
While Eris had readied the carriage discreetly and cleared the way for us, Jeyre had managed to sneak out some of the important belongings I have into the carriage. The footmen were also reliable and had kept their lips sealed as well.
My gaze travelled to my wheelchair neatly folded and tucked in the carriage and I sighed outwardly, remembering how Eris had carefully carried me and sat me in the carriage.
We wouldn't have needed a carriage if I had been able to shift. With majesty's speed we would have been able to get to the capital city within a maximum of three to four days. But since we were journeying via this carriage, it would take about a week or more to get to our destination. Especially since we'd be needing to stop by inns at intervals during the journey.
"The safety of the lady is in your hands, make sure you take good of her." I returned my gaze outside the carriage to see Eris instructing the footmen, just as Jeyre walked back to the carriage and hopped back in with the help of a footman.
Eris's gaze met mine and I nodded at him knowingly, he bowed in understanding just before the carriage began moving.
I trust him to do as I had instructed.

FLASHBACK
~Location: Alpha Demak's Castle, Mooncrest~
"My Lady,"
I raised my gaze from the small study desk in my room, and looked towards the room door. It was past noon already, and the Alpha, Varda and all the in-house servants were busy making preparations for the full moon festival, as tradition demanded.
"Come in, Eris." I said, and the door opened, revealing Eris dressed fully in his warrior attire.
"My lady," He bowed. "Preparations have been made discreetly for your journey as you've instructed."
"Thank you, Eris." I wheeled myself around so I was facing him directly. "Here," I said, stretching a sealed letter to him. "You would give this to Beta Kamen after I'm gone from the pack and tell him to deliver this to the Alpha."
I guess Father would be eager to hear from me the moment my disappearance was noticed.
It would have been better if Eris personally delivered this to my father, however, it's no doubt Varda would ensure this doesn't get to him. I'd like to imagine that she can't stop the Beta from meeting privately with the Alpha.
"Rest assured, my lady, it would be done as you've commanded." Eris said, bowing slightly again and I nodded.
"Thank you."
"The carriage is ready. Jeyre would come in to get you while I go clear the way." He continued.
The moment was really here...
I glanced around my room, taking in a deep breath as I did. "Alright." I said, tapping my right hand on the armrest of my wheelchair. Eris gave one last bow before he exited my room, sparing me a few moments to brood in silence before Jeyre comes to get me.

~Ten Days Later~
~Location: Elgarion~
"By the goddess!" A gasp escaped my lips and my mouth remained hung agape. My eyes roamed around the rare but realistic view it was seeing while my brain tried to assess and interpret the sight.
Things have changed so magnanimously since the last time I was here.
"My god!" Jeyre whispered with equal awe and disbelief as myself. "I've heard rumors of how ethereal Elgarion was but none did enough justice to the sight my eyes currently behold." She gushed.
After about ten days of travelling and stopping to rest at small inns between werewolves territories, crossing borders, through rainy days, dark nights and sunny days, we have finally arrived at Elgarion. And it's the morning of the tenth day since we left Mooncrest.
Mooncrest, a place we had always held in high esteem, was now just like a spec of dust in comparison to a gaint anthill as Elgarion.
If given the opportunity, I wouldn't be able to ever paint this city to perfection and neither do I think I could describe it to perfection.
It was massive, flourishing and bustling. Affluent, full of life and dreamy, unlike what I had recalled it to be twelve years ago.
Elgarion was really deserving of the title as the capital city of the entire Crystal-Moon Dynasty. It's a city far advanced with the latest forms of technology certainly developed by experts and talented individuals.
Towering buildings and large corporations all over the place, diverse forms of unbelievable transportations in sight, which couldn't be even slightly compared to the carriage I came with.
Elgarion has everything in a city. And its creativity seemed limitless with millions of werewolves living in it. (At least that's what it seems like from what my eyes could see.)
This domineering city made me realize that Mooncrest was far, far behind in any forms of development at all.
One couldn't help but imagine the force behind this great change.
And it was really sad to think of my pack's current state. Mooncrest could be called a striving but backwards village in terms of development and even in description and comparison.
And from my observations during the journey, Mooncrest was the least backwards in all territories of this dynasty. It was sad and shameful to realize we've been trailing behind for long and nothing was being done about it. And as a 'supposed' blood-birthed Alpha of that mediocre pack, it was too sad and almost shameful to realize.
Now I wish I could write a letter to my father and inform him of the many things our pack was lacking.
Twelve years ago, I had celebrated my tenth birthday here. It had been a business trip for Father but he had taken us along. By us, I meant my mother and I. Yes, Mother had been alive then.
For Father, the purpose of the trip had had something to do with a yearly congress of all Alphas of the Crystal-Moon Dynasty.
And while Father attended his meetings, Mother had taken me with her to tour the city. I still recall some names of the areas we had been to. But it won't be surprising if those areas had undergone redevelopment.
However, that was one of the most wonderful experiences and times of my life.
'Those were the good days.' I reflected.
I still miss mother to be honest. I missed her everyday but Odin had been there and had somehow filled the void she had left in me, even though it was a little, it was still something.
But when he died, the void within me got wider and deeper than ever before.
So however the changes that might have occured because of redevelopment, this city still meant so much to me.
And suddenly, I realized, choosing to come to Elgarion wasn't a mistake. My heart wanted a place other than Mooncrest, that was home. And it seemed, Elgarion was that other home Majesty and I needed.
I have realized that choosing to come to this city was the best decision I ever made after the death of my mate.
And for the first time in a long time, I found myself smiling broadly as a tear slid down my cheeks. "Elgarion, you had birthed one of my dearest memories. And now, you would be my home." I said out loud.
