Chapter 12 Touring Elgarion

AITHNE'S POV
~VeMiCa Restaurant~
 "Here's your Derita Pasta Frittata."
"Thank you." Jeyre and I said as the lady carefully dropped the tray on the table and served us.
"You're welcome." She smiled, leaning upwards. Then she suddenly paused and leaned down slightly, inclining towards me. "You're obviously not from around here." She said and my mouth opened slightly in surprise. "I mean, it's way too obvious given your fashion sense."
 'By the goddess!'
I swore internally and I felt Majesty's mocking chuckle within me.
'I see what you're doing.' I telepathically retorted at her. 'Remind me to go shopping with Jeyre immediately we get ought of here.'
The curious waitress was still talking. "...yet, you seem familiar with our restaurant's most special cuisine. Also, I sense a powerful aura around you." Her eyes fell on my lower body and a flash appeared in her eyes. Pity! Pity? I don't need that from anyone around here. "It seems you might have a sad story you may want to share." She continued.
I exchanged brief glances with Jeyre and her eyes held the same questions as mine.
'What, by the goddess, was her deal?'
We didn't come here for this.
Some hours ago, we had arrived Elgarion and it was still quite early in the day. It made settling in our new home easy for Jeyre and I.
After having our bath, eating a quick meal Jeyre had prepared and taking a nap, we set out this evening to explore the city, trying to trace back places where my mother had taken me before. It wasn't an easy task because of the redevelopment that had taken place here, over the years.
But luckily, we arrived at a big restaurant I remembered vividly. Both the route to and from it. Luck seemed to have been on our side because the outer structure of the building housing the restaurant hadn't changed. Although there were now several big buildings around it.
However, the building might need to go through redevelopment soon from the look of things.
We had placed our order, and had waited a few minutes before this curious waitress brought our meal.
Now I narrowed my gaze, tilting my head to the side as I stared at the young, average height woman, wondering what to say to her. I really don't appreciate her prying.
Her curious emerald-green eyes met mine eagerly, waiting for my response.
Her golden-blonde hair was very short... short? I never imagined short gold-blonde as a trend for females before. Well, this isn't Mooncrest. This is Elgarion. And everything's different here. It does suit her cute oval face though.
"I've been here before." I simply said, hoping she would take the hint and leave.
"Ah ha! That explains it." She enthusiastically chimed. "My name's Moji but you can call me Ji." I raised a brow in confusion. Why shorten a name that's already short? "Oh," she laughed, "my friends and almost everyone calls me that. And I'm used to it already. I would love to be friends with you if you don't mind. I'd also love to hear your story. My family owns this restaurant and..."
 "Ji, come over here quickly."
Thankfully someone called for her from another section of the restaurant.
"I'd be right back." She beamed. "Excuse me," we nodded as she picked up her empty tray and hurried off.
Jeyre and I exchanged relieved glances the moment she was gone.
"What a load of drama she is." Jeyre said sighingly.
"Tell me about it," I said, pulling my bowl closer and picking up my chopsticks. "Let's dig in quickly and leave before she returns." I added and Jeyre chuckled softly.
"I totally agree. We can't let someone so overly chatty and curious close. Especially when we're trying to live on a low." She said and I nodded, rolling my chopsticks around the pasta so I could get enough wrapped around it before I would toss it in my mouth.
I've craved this meal so much, even in my sleep for many years now.
Derita pasta frittata is a delicious meal which is a combination of vegetables, pasta, milk and eggs with some spices I have no idea of. But it's really spicy and tasty and I don't know how it's made. I just know it's a combo of some of these items listed.
It's a cuisine limited to this VeMiCa Restaurant, I think. It seems so because I haven't seen or tasted anything like it anywhere else other than this place.
It does scents exactly as my memory recalls. And I hope it tastes as delicious as well. I was lifting it to my mouth when someone suddenly said.
"Woah, wouldn't that amount burn your tongue? I mean it's sizzling!"
Damn! What's with the too much prying around here?
I lowered my chopsticks back to the bowl and raised my gaze to see the intruder.
 Another golden blonde...
"I'm sorry." He apologized. "And I don't mean to pry, but you need to take it easy, you know, it's super spicy." He smiled and that felt instantly familiar. He had obvious facial resemblance to the overly curious waitress and that meant, they were related _ siblings if not.
But that wasn't why his smile and manner of speaking felt familiar. He has an aura similar to that of my late mate, Odin. A positively, caring, sincere and cheerful aura...
A familiar sickening feeling instantly overwhelmed me and I looked away from him, deciding to focus on my bowl of Derita Pasta Frittata.
"And you are?" Jeyre questioned, her defensive and protective side beginning to reveal. I glanced sideways at her and nodded slightly and she understood.
"My apologies once more, I'm Regan. You met my younger sister earlier." He introduced.
"I see," then after a quick glance around the restaurant, I continued. "Are you guys usually this chatty with your customers?" I returned my gaze to him.
"Ahh," he smiled again and this time, I almost cried. It felt so warm and strangely comforting. "Ji must have left a not-so impressive impression." He said and I nodded positively.
"I'm thinking you would know better, since you both are siblings." I said and he chuckled.
"True that. But you're right, we tend to get chatty with our customers. And when a new face shows up, Ji's curiosity increases to an insane level. I'm sorry if perhaps she offended you while at it." He apologized again, his warm smile still lighting up his face and probably the entire restaurant.
"It's fine." I picked up my chopsticks again, wanting to put an end to the conversation. His warm, deep chocolate eyes and his smile were stirring up numb places within me, and making me travel through a memory I wasn't ready to visit at the moment. "I'd just get back to my food. Like you said, I would take it easy so it doesn't burn my tongue. Thanks for your advice."
"It's a pleasure. Then," he smiled at us again. "...I should leave you to enjoy your meal." He added and Jeyre and I nodded positively.
He was about to leave when he suddenly stopped on his tracks. The aura around the restaurant had suddenly changed.
Every single person in the restaurant -- except Jeyre and I -- literally stood up from their seats, abandoning their food and bowing to the waist in a direction.
I was forced to take a look immediately. And just as I did, my eyes widened and I instantly retrieved my gaze and looked elsewhere.
This aura was domineering and formidable and is one that is instantly recognized by similar forces.
From a corner of my eyes, I watched as he approached, another man few paces behind him. His aura was powerful as well but it couldn't be compared to that of the man before him.
No doubt, this individual must be an Alpha. But the aura around him, was several times greater than that of any Alpha I'd ever met. And this meant, he wasn't just an alpha. If so, then he's...
My widened eyes met Jeyre's flustered ones the moment realization set in. She understood and immediately stood up and bowed to the waist like the others, towards the approaching figure.
By the goddess, this wasn't how I hoped the day would go.
I kept my head low as well and prayed he doesn't sense me. As an Alpha would always know an Alpha without even being introduced.
I am not ready to be known or recognized in this new environment. I don't want my past coming after me here when I had travelled over fifteen territories to escape it.
I want to live a life as quiet as possible and be unnoticed here in Elgarion. At least, until it was time to return home.
And I hope nothing ruins my plans. I desperately do hope so...
