Chapter 14 The tale of the enchanting waterfall

AITHNE'S POV
"EWE? Is this the place?" Jeyre asked as she helped me alight from the huge transportation medium I just learned was a bus. There's so much to learn in this city and about this city. Its advancement was unimaginable over the years.
To be honest, I didn't think the Alpha King to be young. I had imagined him to be a man in his late fifties of sixties like my father. And was actually taken aback when I confirmed my suspicion of him being the Alpha King. I wondered if he had been the Alpha King for a long time already and if he was the force behind this massive technological and infrastructural advancement in the Capital City.
"Aithne, I'm so happy you chose to come to Elgarion." Jeyre suddenly said, excitment clear in her voice while helping me settle into my wheelchair again.
"I know right," I smiled, loving the way the wind gently toyed with my hair and enjoying the feel of the evening breeze on my skin.
"I'm so glad, my lady." She stood behind me and placed her hands on my wheelchair. Without her saying anything else I could tell she was getting emotional. Jeyre only calls me 'My Lady' when she's emotional, when she's being dramatic or when in presence of other people and house servants. "It's so great seeing you become better again. This past month have been..."
Well, I just knew it.
"Don't tell me you're getting emotional again, Jeyre." I interrupted her and immediately heard a small sob escaped her lips.
I reached out my hand behind me and touched her arm gently. "It's okay Jeyre. It's okay, you don't have to cry."
"I'm sorry, Aithne. I couldn't help it." She said after a brief moment. And I smiled, she was back to being my friend now and not my maid.
"It's fine." I said and glanced ahead, watching as the crystal like water flowed from the top of the hill, down to its foot, and through a pathway it made, creating a small sparkling stream at the foot of the hills.
And just as it had been twelve years ago, there were several children playing around the stream, ducking their tiny legs in, splashing or swimming with zealous excitment, not far from their mothers' watchful sight.
"In answer to your earlier question, Jeyre, yes, this is the renowned EWE. Fully refered as Enchanting Waterfall of Elgarion. This is the waterfall my mother brought me to when I was ten." A sad and almost teary smile reflected on my face as the memories flashed by.
Jeyre gently began wheeling me towards the foot of the water fall. Since my memory of the route down here had become shady and also because of the redevelopment, I couldn't remember the way to this place again. So I had requested Regan's help in getting the address and how to locate it. He had written down an address for me and even directed a servant to take us to the nearest bus stop, without being curious or asking questions. Thankfully, he was unlike his sister in that regard.
 So here we are.
Some moments after we were both seated on a little rock by the waterfall and watching the little ones play in silence, Jeyre broke the silence.
"The name of this waterfall actually suits it."
"Why so?" I turned sideways at her, she had a thoughtful expression over her face.
"I don't know, but I do feel this strange enchanting aura around it, like there's a mysterious presence in it." She said and I found myself smiling broadly. "You don't agree with me right?" Jeyre queried, a teasing hint in her voice on noticing me smiling.
"It is actually the opposite." I returned my gaze back to the fast flowing crystal waterfall. "You know, I once asked my mother why this waterfall was called EWE(Enchanting Waterfall of Elgarion). In my words I had asked, 'Maa is this waterfall really enchanting?' and guess what, she had agreed it was. And then, she had sat me down her on her laps and told me an old story about EWE. She had said..." Tears filled my eyes as the memories came flashing by and a patchy sob escaped my throat.
It wasn't this hard living without mother when Odin had been with me. But now...
Jeyre gave me a reassuring, gentle squeeze on my lap and a warm smile. "You don't have to talk about it, Aithne. I know it is hard."
I sniffed in tearily and wiped my eyes. "But I want to. I want to forever cherish her memories that's why I'm here. I want to remember those days when my family was mine alone. Those days when we were happy, when Father was Father to me only. Those perfect days, I want to forever cherish them. I d-don't want to lose even a tiny bit of those memories. It's all I got now, Jeyre. It's really all I got now." Tears rolled down my cheeks without ceasing and this time I allowed them out freely, not wiping them. My soul was greatly bruised and may be forever bruised by the mayhem Varda caused.
"I know," she whispered, taking my left hand in hands and patting it gently and reassuringly.
'I miss you so much, Maa. And I'm so sorry I ran away from home. But there was really nothing I could do. I couldn't stay on and watch what was happening anymore. Not without my pillar, not without my shield. Not when she's taken away everything that's mine. Not when she's ruined our family. Not without you, not without my mate, not without my ability to even shift. Not after ruining and scarring Majesty and I for life.
 Dearest Maa, I'm so sorry.'
FLASHBACK
NARRATIVE
~Location: Enchanting Waterfall of Elgarion, Elgarion.~
*Twelve years ago*
A slender, curvy woman of about 35 years of age, dressed in a crystal blue attire: which was decorated with the symbol of the crest of a crystal moon, her voluptuous mid-waist length hair was as dark as the night, her eyes were shut tight and her hands clasped beneath her slender jawline in reverence as she knelt at the top of a small rock, facing the crystal flowing waterfall and mumbling some words known to her only and to the supreme force whom she implored.
"Maa, Maa." A little girl of age ten, excitedly ran over, totally drenched head to toe from playing at the little crystal stream by the foot of the waterfall.
The woman mumbled some last words and slowly peeled her eyelids open, revealing her royal, sophisticated like, and enchanting violet eyes.
She turned, still on her knees to face her daughter, and a bright smile graced her elegant face the moment her eyes fell on her little mini.
"Aww look at that, little Rida. Come here, let's get you out of those wet clothes before you catch a cold." She spread her arms open and the little girl ran gleefully to her.
"Maa, I heard the other children say EWE is enchanted and enchanting. Is that true? Is it really enchanting?" She curiously and impatiently asked.
The woman, by name, Ares, Luna of Mooncrest Pack (a mediocre werewolf territory located at the far southwest of Elgarion) stood upright and smiled at her daughter.
"Oh, Carida, you've become curious once again." She caressed the girl's cheeks and beamed at her. "Let us go home and I would tell you a story that's going to answer your question."
Of course, the little girl was excited to go home and hear about this story her dear mother was going to tell.
And so, she let her mother guide her down the rock and off it, before they headed back to their rented cottage at a little forest not very far from the heart of the city.
And while she lay on her mother's laps that night, at the balcony of the little cottage, awaiting her father who was away for a meeting with the Alpha King, little Carida watched the stars in the dark night and full moon, smiling enthusiastically as her mother caressed her silky black hair and told her the tale of the renowned 'Moonlight Serenade' that had started at the waterfall of Elgarion, several decades ago.
A mysterious serenade it was. One that was also renowned as 'the dance of the goddess' as time went on.
However, it wasn't a foreign tale to all werewolves, especially werewolves originating or belonging to the crystal-moon dynasty.
Regardless of the popularity of this tale, each time the moonlight serenade occured, only the few gifted were permitted to hear it. None witnessed it, except the chosen one and afterwards, there usually was a transformation in the life of the chosen one.
And not even Ares, ever witnessed it...
"Listen, Carida." Ares suddenly said to her daughter, a determined glint in her violet eyes. "Mother is now going to teach you a very interesting and unique song, one that you've never heard before."
