Chapter 17 An unexpected element

AITHNE'S POV
Seeing Jeyre's unusual reaction to my touch stunned me greatly. It was weird and she looked so scared even I was forced to feel the emotion. And Majesty? I could sense an unusual euphoric vibe from her.
Why's she so happy? I wondered.
In the moment of my thoughts, memories from the previous night came to me. One moment I had been staring out the window, reflecting on my own thoughts and the next moment I had danced with ethereal beings, standing on two very healthy legs! My own legs!
What by the goddess happened to me during those moments? I had no idea. But I could as well find out by myself. And that, right now.
My eyes widened and anticipation filled my soul as I glanced over my body.
Just as Jeyre had said, I looked different and there seemed to be a ghost trail of smoke emanating from my finger tips. My eyes trailed the rest of my body from my wrist to my hair and down to my legs. And then, I paused.
Does this mean I could walk again? And shift also? The moment the thoughts occurred to me, I felt Majesty's churn of agreement in my head.
"You think so too, right, Majesty?" I said to her as a hopeful smile appeared on my face resulting in Jeyre looking at me curiously.
"Aithne, what are you thinking? Won't you tell me what's going on?"
"I think... it's good news, Jeyre. Good news."
"Really?" She gasped, carefully stepping closer to me again, as she pushed back some straying strands of red curls off her face.
I nodded positively, ignoring the tattoo-like inscription of gold-like ink on my wrist, while placing both palms against the hard floor to support my weight and give me balance as I tried lifting myself off the floor.
"I think I can... I can w..." I was yet to complete my words when my butt collided against the hard floor the very next second it was off it.
"Arghhh!" I screamed instantly, feeling the sharp pain that came with the collision.
"My Lady!" I heard the fear in Jeyre's voice as she hurried to me, bending over and quickly supporting my back with her arm to prevent me from falling even more. Her initial skepticism of physical contact with me gone with the wind.
Tears of shock and disappointment blurred my vision and instantly rolled down my cheeks. Majesty howled slightly in my head and soon reclined to my subconscious.
'But I thought...I thought I could walk. So, w-why am I unable to even hold myself off the floor?'
Sadness crept over my soul immediately and gnawed at my heart, shredding it to unredeemable pieces once again.
Am I being teased by the universe or what?
___
Moments later, I sat across from Jeyre in the mini cottage kitchen, sipping melon juice as I told her all that happened to me during the night. All that I could vividly recall, actually.
Apparently, I had developed an unusual ability at midnight and was having trouble keeping it in check.
I was yet to understand the element or its essence to me, so how would I even know how to control it?
Jeyre's gaze kept fluctuating between my hair and eyes then lingering even more on my wrist where the writings in foreign tongues were engraved...
I wouldn't blame her for being so baffled, seeing as I couldn't properly understand the situation myself.
"My lady, you really don't know how this got to your wrist?" She asked yet again.
I nodded in agreement, feeling the warmth building in my palm that was wrapped around the plastic juice can. Knowing what that meant, I instantly let go of the can and reclined on my seat, hiding my hands beneath the table from Jeyre's concerned gaze.
"Jeyre, I really can't recall how it happened or when it did. By the goddess! I can't even explain how I found myself walking out of the cottage in the middle of the night and dancing with indescribable mystic beings for goddess_knows how long!" I sighed, my vision narrowing on the 'extra' length of my 'mysterious' crystal hair. "Not even how my physical traits transformed as well." I added and she sighed softly. A second passed by before she continued.
"Can I touch it? Hope it's not blazing as well?" I was yet to fully comprehend her sentence when Jeyre reached for my hair from across the tiny table between us, and within seconds, she had her hand wrapped in the silky length of crystal hair. "Hmm, still the same texture and feel as your previous natural black hair. Just that, this feels a bit silkier." I stiffled a laugh when she raised a handful and sniffed. "Nothing different, still same scent of chocolate and mint flavors." She noted, looking so serious I couldn't help but smell my own hair as well.
   I suddenly paused mid action.
Does this mean Majesty's snow-white fur's gone and now replaced by crystal furs?
Even as the thought occured to me, a part of me knew it made no sense.
My chest heaved and an overwhelming feeling of sadness consumed me again. Poor Majesty... We had our hopes dashed yet again.
I glared at my wrists and hair. If I couldn't even make use of this element to help myself and my wolf, then what's the use? What's the need for it?
At a distance, I heard the sound of thunder the moment the thoughts came to mind and my frown deepened.
I can't even...
"Earth to you, My Lady," Jeyre's words and gentle nudge cut through my train of thoughts. "Are we resuming old habits such as zoning out, in Elgarion as well?"
   "I..."
"Wait." Jeyre suddenly interrupted me. Startled, I narrowed my brows at her. "Is it just me or is something really burning somewhere in this kitchen?" She was up from her seat now, sniffing the air with a hand slightly over her nose in a dramatic manner.
"I guess it's just yo..." My words caught in the air because of Jeyre's startled scream.
"What now, Jey?" The frown creasing on my face moulded into bewilderment the moment I trailed her gaze to my own hands. "By the goddess!" I cursed, the unsightly appearance of the once sparkling pink tablecloth glaring back at me.
"Aithne, we really gotta do something about these suddenly mystic hands of yours." Jeyre declared, her expression mirroring mine at the sight of the burning tablecloth and the remnant trail of smoke in my now half-raised hands.
I immediately nodded my head in agreement.
Something had to be done and soon, before I roast myself and my bossom companion to ash in our newfound home.

I enjoyed reading Chapter 1 up to Chapter 3 because I like the courage and braveness of Majesty but it’s triggered me in the tittle of Chapter 4 which is Broken 😞 I’m so excited to read the chapter 4 can’t wait !
