Just as the food was served before us, I looked around the table, my eyes meeting the gazes of the other boys. Liam, Michael, Myers, and Phillips were all staring at me, their faces etched with a mix of fear and uncertainty. It was as if we were all thinking the same thing - that our food might have been poisoned. The thought sent a chill down my spine, and I could feel my heart racing with anticipation. I turned to look at the princess, her eyes fixed intently on me. I could sense a hint of amusement in her gaze, as if she knew something we didn't. Her eyes seemed to bore into my soul, and I felt a shiver run down my spine as our eyes met. The tension in the air was thickening like a fog, and I could feel the weight of it pressing down on me. "Something's wrong," I whispered to myself, my voice barely audible. I couldn't shake off the feeling that we were all in grave danger. Just as I was advised by Brock, I decided to make my move. I cunningly threw down the spoon placed before me, acting like I was clumsy. The princess smiled, a hint of delight in her eyes. "Oh dear, it seems like we have a bit of a clumsy one here," she said, her voice light and playful. "Don't worry, accidents happen." I bent low under the table, pretending to pick up the spoon. That's when I made the spoon exchange, my hands moving swiftly and silently. I dug the new spoon into my food, waiting to see if it would turn brown. My heart was racing with anticipation, and I could feel my palms growing sweaty. The other boys were still hesitant, none of them making a move to eat. We were all waiting for one person to start first, like a game of chicken. The silence was deafening, and I could feel the tension building up inside me. "Come on, guys," the princess said, her voice encouraging. "Let's not be shy. The food is delicious, I promise. My chef has outdone himself tonight." But we remained still, our eyes fixed on each other, waiting for someone to make the first move. The princess's words seemed to hang in the air, like a challenge. "I think we're just waiting for you to start, Your Highness," Liam said, his voice cautious. "After all, you're our host." The princess laughed, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "Oh, how thoughtful of you. But I insist, please, start eating. I promise you, the food is safe." We remained frozen, the tension in the air growing thicker by the second. It was a standoff, with no one willing to make the first move. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest, and I knew I had to make a decision soon. As I gently pulled my spoon out of the food, I realized that the spoon was still maintaining its silver color, signaling that the food was safe. A wave of relief washed over me, and I felt a sense of accomplishment at having navigated the first challenge. I dived into my food, savoring the flavors and textures, and began to eat slowly and responsibly, my eyes scanning the room to gauge the reactions of the others. The other boys were still hesitant, their eyes fixed on me as if waiting to see how things would turn out. Would I struggle for my life and choke to death, or remain strong and healthy? The tension in the air was palpable, and I could feel their gazes like a weight on my shoulders, pressing down on me with an almost physical force. But I refused to give in to fear. I ate with deliberate slowness, my movements calculated and precise, my eyes locked on the princess, who was watching me with a wide smile on her face. She seemed to be enjoying the spectacle, and I could sense a hint of pride in her gaze, as if she had expected me to pass the test all along. Finally, she began to eat her dinner too, her movements graceful and elegant, her fork glinting in the candlelight as she speared a piece of meat. The other boys slowly followed suit, their faces still etched with uncertainty, their eyes darting back and forth between me and the princess. After the dinner was done, the princess pushed her chair back and stood up, her eyes scanning the room with a regal gaze. "I must say, I'm impressed," she said, her voice ringing out across the dining room, echoing off the walls and ceiling. "Especially with you, young man." She nodded towards me, her smile growing wider, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "You showed bravery and trust, even when faced with uncertainty. That takes courage." I felt a flush rise to my cheeks as she praised me openly in front of everyone, her words hanging in the air like a challenge. The other boys looked on, their faces a mix of surprise and envy, their eyes narrowing as they watched, there faces gently bent low, to avoid the disappointing gaze from the princess. The princess then announced that she would be heading back tonight, her voice tinged with a hint of regret. "It was a pleasure coming to meet the boys who are up for this challenge," she said, her eyes scanning the room before focusing more intently on me. "I must say, I'm impressed with what I've seen so far." Her gaze lingered on me for a moment, and I felt a shiver run down my spine as our eyes met. "I'm really supporting you all the way, Young Master Gabriel," she said, her voice taking on a more direct tone. "Don't disappoint me." I felt a surge of determination at her words, a sense of responsibility settling onto my shoulders. "I won't, Your Highness," I replied, my voice firm and resolute. "I promise to do my best." The princess smiled, her eyes sparkling with approval. "I know you will," she said. "I have faith in you." With that, she turned and left, the Boss escorting her out of the dining room. The room fell silent once more, the only sound the soft clinking of silverware on plates. I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the princess's words, her support and encouragement meaning more to me than I could ever express. I knew that I had a long and difficult journey ahead of me, but with the princess's backing, I felt a sense of confidence that I had not felt before. "Thank you, Your Highness," I whispered to myself, my eyes fixed on the door through which she had departed. The other boys looked on, their faces a mix of surprise and envy. "Well, well, well," Liam said, his voice laced with sarcasm. "Looks like someone's got the princess's favor." I ignored him, my focus fixed on the task ahead. I knew that I had a lot to prove, not just to the princess, but to myself. And I was determined to do just that.
