Chapter Thirty-One: Lucas
I woke up the next morning feeling a mix of anxiety and resolve. Mia’s words from our conversation the night before had left a profound impact on me. I knew I couldn’t keep letting the inheritance battle dominate our lives. I needed to reassess what truly mattered to me and make a choice.
I dressed quickly, my mind racing. I had to talk to Mia again, but this time, it wasn’t going to be just about discussing problems. I had to make a statement, one that would show her just how much I valued our relationship.
The mansion was eerily quiet as I made my way downstairs. I walked through the grand hall, the ornate chandeliers casting their golden glow on the marble floors. The house, with all its grandeur, felt empty without Mia’s laughter and presence filling the rooms.
I found her in the garden, sitting by the koi pond. The morning sun was just beginning to rise, casting a soft, warm light over the tranquil scene. Mia was lost in thought, her eyes following the gentle ripples in the water. Her presence was calming, but I could see the shadows of worry etched on her face.
“Mia,” I said softly as I approached her.
She looked up, her eyes meeting mine. “Lucas. Good morning.”
“Morning,” I replied, taking a seat beside her. “I’ve been thinking a lot about what you said. I realized that I’ve been so caught up in this legal battle that I’ve neglected what’s most important.”
Mia’s gaze softened. “And what’s that?”
“It’s us,” I said firmly, taking her hand in mine. “The company is important, but it’s not everything. I’ve been so focused on protecting my claim and fixing this mess that I’ve lost sight of what truly matters—our relationship.”
Mia looked surprised, her eyes searching mine for sincerity. “What are you saying, Lucas?”
“I’m saying that I want to take a stand,” I continued, my voice steady. “I don’t want the inheritance battle to dictate the course of our lives. I want us to be open about our relationship, to show the world that we’re more than just a contractual arrangement.”
Mia’s eyes widened, a mix of hope and uncertainty dancing in her gaze. “Are you sure? Going public could complicate things even more. What if it doesn’t solve anything?”
“I know it’s a risk,” I said, squeezing her hand gently. “But it’s a risk I’m willing to take. I want to build our relationship on a foundation of honesty and commitment. I believe that if we face this together, we can overcome any challenge.”
Mia was silent for a moment, her mind clearly racing. I could see the internal struggle as she weighed the possibilities. I held my breath, hoping that she would see the sincerity in my eyes.
Finally, she took a deep breath and nodded. “Alright. If you’re willing to take that risk, then so am I. But we have to be ready for whatever comes our way.”
A sense of relief washed over me. “Thank you, Mia. We’ll face this together, and I’ll make sure to do everything I can to make it work.”
We stood up, and I wrapped my arms around her, holding her close. The warmth of her body against mine felt reassuring, grounding me in the moment. I knew that this wasn’t going to be easy, but I was ready to fight for our relationship.
As we walked back to the house, I felt a renewed sense of purpose. The mansion, which had felt so imposing and cold, now seemed like a place where we could build something new. I was determined to show the world—and myself—that our relationship was real and worth fighting for.
We spent the rest of the day making plans. We decided to hold a press conference to announce our relationship publicly. It was a bold move, but it was the right one. We wanted to prove that our commitment was genuine, that we were more than just a business arrangement.
The press conference was scheduled for the following week, and the preparations began immediately. I could feel the pressure mounting, but it was different this time. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, I felt invigorated. This was a chance to redefine our relationship and take control of our future.
In the meantime, I continued to work on the legal issues surrounding the inheritance. While I was focused on solving the problems, my priority remained clear: Mia and our relationship. I made sure to keep her informed and involved, ensuring that she felt like an equal partner in this journey.
The days leading up to the press conference were filled with a flurry of activity. Mia and I worked closely together, finalizing the details and preparing our statements. Despite the chaos, we found moments of connection and understanding, reaffirming the bond between us.
Finally, the day of the press conference arrived. The media gathered in the grand ballroom of the mansion, their cameras and microphones ready. Mia and I stood side by side at the podium, our hands intertwined.
As I looked out at the sea of faces, I felt a mix of nerves and excitement. This was our chance to make a statement, to show the world that our relationship was real and meaningful.
“Mia and I have something important to share with you all,” I began, my voice steady. “We are here today to announce that our relationship is more than just a contractual arrangement. We are genuinely committed to each other, and we want to build our future together.”
The room buzzed with murmurs and flashes from cameras. I glanced at Mia, who gave me a reassuring smile. We took turns speaking, sharing our story and our commitment to each other. The press conference was intense, but it felt like a turning point.
As we left the podium, I felt a sense of accomplishment. We had taken a significant step, and our relationship was now out in the open. The future was uncertain, but we were ready to face it together.
That night, as we stood on the balcony overlooking the city, I wrapped my arms around Mia, holding her close. The lights of the city twinkled below, and the cool breeze felt refreshing.
“I’m glad we did this,” Mia said softly, leaning into me. “It feels like a weight has been lifted off our shoulders.”
“Me too,” I replied, kissing the top of her head. “We’ve taken a big step, and we’re in this together. No matter what happens, we’ll face it as a team.”
We stood there in silence, enjoying the peaceful moment. The road ahead might still be challenging, but with Mia by my side, I felt ready to face whatever came our way. Our relationship was now a testament to our commitment and love, and I was determined to make it work.Download Novelah App
