Chapter 11: Rescue the Hostages
Chapter 11: Rescue the Hostages
The night was dark and still as Sariah and Lyon approached the heavily guarded alien facility. Located on the outskirts of Rome, it was a fortress of alien technology, surrounded by high walls and patrolled by alien soldiers. The mission was clear: rescue the group of kidnapped scientists who were crucial in developing anti-alien technology. Failure was not an option.
"Alright, this is it," Lyon whispered, peering through binoculars at the facility.
"The intel suggests that the scientists are being held in a secure room on the lower level. We'll need to get past the guards and find a way inside without raising the alarm."
Sariah nodded, her face set with determination.
"We can do this. We'll get them out."
They moved silently through the underbrush, their footsteps barely making a sound. Sariah kept her senses sharp, listening for any sign of movement, while Lyon used his abilities to disable the perimeter sensors.
"We're in," Lyon said softly, as a section of the fence powered down.
"Let's move."
They slipped through the gap, staying low and out of sight. The facility loomed ahead, its dark walls illuminated by occasional spotlights. Alien soldiers patrolled the grounds, their weapons at the ready.
"There's a maintenance entrance on the east side," Sariah whispered, pointing to a small door partially hidden by a stack of crates. "We can get in there."
They made their way to the door, moving swiftly and silently. Lyon placed his hand on the control panel, his eyes narrowing in concentration. After a few tense moments, the door clicked open.
"Nice work," Sariah whispered, slipping inside.
The corridor beyond was dimly lit and eerily quiet. They moved quickly, Lyon using his interface abilities to guide them through the labyrinthine facility. They encountered a few alien soldiers along the way, but Sariah's voice and Lyon's guitar made short work of them, incapacitating the guards without raising the alarm.
"According to the schematics, the secure room should be just up ahead," Lyon said, checking his wrist device.
They approached a heavily fortified door, guarded by two imposing alien soldiers. "We'll need to take them out quickly and quietly," Sariah said, her voice low.
Lyon nodded, strumming a soft, disorienting chord on his guitar. The aliens staggered, their weapons slipping from their hands. Sariah stepped forward, her voice rising in a hypnotic melody that put the guards to sleep.
"That should hold them for a while," she said, moving to the control panel.
"Can you get this door open?"
Lyon nodded, his fingers dancing over the alien keypad.
"Give me a second... there, it's open."
The door slid open with a soft hiss, revealing a large room filled with high-tech equipment. In the center, a group of scientists sat huddled together, their faces pale with fear. They looked up as Sariah and Lyon entered, their expressions shifting to one of relief.
"Are you here to rescue us?" one of the scientists asked, her voice trembling.
"Yes, we are," Sariah replied, moving to help them up.
"We need to move quickly. Can you walk?"
The scientists nodded, gathering their things.
"They've been interrogating us, trying to get information about our research," another scientist said.
"We need to destroy our data before we leave."
Lyon moved to the central console, his eyes narrowing as he accessed the system.
"I can do that. Just give me a moment."
Sariah kept watch at the door, her heart pounding in her chest. "Hurry, Lyon. We don't have much time."
Lyon's fingers flew over the keyboard, and after a few tense moments, he nodded. "Done. The data is wiped. Let's get out of here."
They moved quickly, leading the scientists back through the corridors. The facility was on high alert now, the sounds of alien soldiers echoing through the halls. They encountered several patrols, but Sariah's voice and Lyon's guitar continued to give them the upper hand.
"Almost there," Lyon said, as they approached the maintenance entrance. "Just a little further."
Suddenly, an alarm blared, and the corridor ahead filled with alien soldiers. "We've been spotted!" Sariah shouted.
Lyon raised his guitar, playing a powerful chord that sent a shockwave through the corridor. The aliens staggered, but more were coming. "We need to hold them off," Lyon said, his voice tense.
Sariah nodded, her voice rising in a powerful, resonant melody. Energy blasts erupted from her vocal cords, knocking the aliens back. Lyon used his abilities to overload the facility's systems, causing lights to flicker and machinery to malfunction.
"Go! Get the scientists out of here!" Sariah shouted, her voice carrying an urgency that spurred Lyon into action.
Lyon nodded, leading the scientists towards the exit. "We'll cover you!" he called back to Sariah.
Sariah stood her ground, her voice a weapon of destruction as she held off the advancing aliens. She could feel the strain on her vocal cords, but she pushed through, knowing that the lives of the scientists—and the fate of their mission—depended on her.
Lyon and the scientists reached the maintenance entrance, slipping through the gap in the fence. "We're almost there," Lyon said, glancing back at Sariah.
Just as Sariah was about to follow, an alien commander stepped into the corridor, his eyes glowing with malevolence. "You won't escape that easily," he snarled.
Sariah's heart skipped a beat. This alien was different—stronger, more dangerous. She took a deep breath, her voice rising in a defiant song that shook the walls of the facility.
The alien commander staggered, but he recovered quickly, launching a barrage of energy blasts. Sariah dodged, her voice cutting through the air like a blade. The battle was fierce, each side pushing the other to their limits.
"Sariah, we need to go!" Lyon shouted from the exit, his voice filled with urgency.
Sariah glanced at him, then back at the alien commander. She knew she couldn't hold him off much longer. With a final, powerful note, she sent a wave of energy crashing into the commander, buying herself a moment to escape.
She sprinted towards the exit, Lyon covering her with a barrage of sound waves. They burst through the gap in the fence, the facility exploding behind them as the reactor finally gave way.
They ran through the forest, the sounds of the explosion fading into the distance. Finally, they stopped, catching their breath as they reached a safe distance.
"Everyone okay?" Lyon asked, his eyes scanning the group of scientists.
The scientists nodded, their expressions a mix of relief and exhaustion. "Thank you," one of them said, her voice trembling. "You saved us."
Sariah smiled, her heart still pounding. "We're just glad you're safe. Let's get you back to the city."
They made their way back to Rome, the adrenaline slowly fading. As they reached the outskirts of the city, the first light of dawn began to break over the horizon.
"You were amazing back there," Lyon said softly, his eyes meeting Sariah's. "I couldn't have done it without you."
Sariah smiled, feeling a warmth spread through her chest. "We make a pretty good team, don't we?"
Lyon nodded, his hand finding hers. "Yeah, we do. And we'll keep fighting, together."
They escorted the scientists to a safe house, ensuring they were well taken care of before heading back to their own base. The mission had been a success, and they had struck a significant blow against the aliens.
As they walked through the quiet streets of Rome, their hands still intertwined, Sariah felt a sense of hope and determination. They had a long road ahead, but with Lyon by her side, she knew they could face anything.
"We'll keep fighting," Sariah said softly, her eyes on the horizon. "For them, and for us."
Lyon squeezed her hand, his voice filled with resolve. "For all of us."
Together, they continued their journey, their bond stronger than ever as they faced the challenges ahead. And as the first rays of sunlight illuminated the city, they knew that no matter what happened, they would face it together—united in their mission and their growing love.Download Novelah App
