As we pulled up to my home, I couldn't believe my eyes. Jordan and Chris had transformed the place into a vibrant party hub, exceeding my expectations. The front yard was packed with people, laughing and chatting, while the sound system blasted energetic tunes that seemed to reverberate through every cell of my body. I was relieved that my parents were away on vacation, or they would have been shocked to see our usually quiet home turned into a lively party scene. Jordan greeted us with a wide grin, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "Hey, man! Welcome to the party! We've been waiting for you." I shook my head, impressed by the sheer scale of the party. "Jordan, you've outdone yourself. This is incredible! I don't recognize my own home." Jordan chuckled, clearly proud of his handiwork. "Thanks, Robin! I might have gotten a bit carried away with the guest list, though." "What do you mean?" I asked, curious about the unexpected turnout. "Well, I invited our high school friends, but they must have invited their friends too... and those friends invited their friends... and so on," Jordan explained, laughing. "I lost count, to be honest. But it's a great vibe, right?" I raised an eyebrow, scanning the crowd. There were familiar faces from school, but also many unknown faces. It was a bit overwhelming, but the energy was infectious. I spotted a group playing beer pong on the porch, while others were dancing in the living room. Just then, Melissa, Jordan's girlfriend, approached us, her long blonde hair bouncing with each step. "Hey, Robin! Can I borrow Sarah for a bit?" "Sure, what's up?" I asked, curious about Melissa's plans. Melissa smiled, her eyes sparkling. "I want to introduce her to some of my friends. We're having a girls' corner over there, and I think Sarah would love it." Sarah nodded, and Melissa took her hand, leading her away towards a group of girls chatting and laughing near the kitchen. "Be careful, Sarah!" I called out, laughing, as she disappeared into the crowd. As Sarah mingled with Melissa's friends, I turned to Jordan. "So, how's the party planning going? You and Chris have done an amazing job." Jordan grinned, clearly proud. "It's going great! Chris and I set up a few gaming stations, and we have a photo booth in the backyard. And, of course, plenty of food and drinks to go around." I nodded, impressed by their attention to detail. "You guys have thought of everything. I'm glad I left the party planning to you." Jordan clapped me on the back. "That's what friends are for, right? Now, let's enjoy the party!" As we chatted, I noticed Sarah laughing and chatting with Melissa's friends, looking like she was having the time of her life. I felt happy knowing that I had convinced her to come, and that she was now a part of our vibrant party scene. The party was in full swing, with people dancing, playing games, and having a blast. I joined in, enjoying the music and the company of my friends. It was definitely a night to remember, one that would go down in history as the most epic party of the year. Just a few minutes after Jordan left me to attend to other party matters, Chris approached me, a sly grin spreading across his face like a mischievous whisper. But instead of discussing the party's success, he brought up a topic I hadn't expected, his voice low and conspiratorial. "So, you seem to be mixing business with pleasure, Robin?" Chris asked, his eyes glinting with amusement as he gestured towards Sarah, who was laughing with Melissa's friends, her smile radiant like a beacon. I rolled my eyes, trying to brush him off, my tone casual. "We're in a party, buddy, why not skip the conversation? Let's just enjoy the night." But Chris wouldn't let up, his curiosity piqued. "Come on, Robin, does that mean I'm right? You're definitely falling for Sarah, aren't you?" He took a sip of his drink, his gaze piercing. I felt a surge of defensiveness, despite the loud music muffling our conversation, my voice rising slightly. "Damn it, bro, whatever I have with Sarah is nothing but business. My head is focused on our bet, nothing else. Don't read too much into it." Chris raised an eyebrow, his expression skeptical, his voice laced with teasing. "Doesn't look like that to me, Robin. I feel like you're definitely falling for Sarah. You're spending an awful lot of time with her, and you seem...different." I stood firm, trying to convince him – and maybe myself – that my intentions were pure, my words emphatic. "The bet is to pick a normal girl and make her the prom queen, right? That's exactly what I'm doing here. You were the one who handpicked Sarah for this bet. Only you, me, and Jordan know about this, so I definitely wouldn't be losing to you, buddy. I'll make Sarah the prom queen, just like I challenged. It's all about winning." Chris chuckled, his eyes glinting with teasing, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Oh, sure, Robin. Keep telling yourself that. Let's not forget that your ex, Sophia, is still the top contender for prom queen. She's not going down without a fight." He took another sip of his wine, his expression taunting, before leaving me alone to ponder his words, the music swirling around me like a vortex. I watched him go, feeling a mix of frustration, determination, and a hint of uncertainty. I would prove Chris wrong – and win the bet. Sarah was just a means to an end, nothing more. But as I scanned the crowd, my eyes landed on Sarah, laughing and shining like a star, her presence drawing me in like a magnet. For a moment, my resolve wavered, my heart skipping a beat. No, I told myself firmly, shaking off the feeling. Focus on the bet. Focus on winning. The music seemed to grow louder, drowning out my doubts, as I plunged back into the party, determined to make Sarah the prom queen – no matter what. The night was young, and the game was on.
