As I sat in the living room, surrounded by the warm glow of the evening sun, Mr. John's gentle smile, and Michael's cautious gaze, I felt a sense of trepidation wash over me. The weight of my mistakes, the pain I had caused Sarah, and the uncertainty of my future with her hung heavy in the air. Mr. John, sensing my unease, broke the silence. "Why don't you sit back, Robin? You're welcome to wait for Sarah to come back. We'll get you a glass of water or something." I nodded gratefully, my eyes scanning the room as I settled deeper into the couch. Michael, who had been quietly observing me, shifted closer, his expression softening. "Hey, Robin, I'm sorry for being mad at you," Michael said, his voice laced with sincerity. "I know you hurt Sarah, but I also know she still cares about you. She was really upset when you didn't show up and asked her to prom, so she possibly believed you really felt nothing for her, she then decided to accept to go with Chris." Regret washed over me like a tidal wave, threatening to consume me whole. I had been so blind, so caught up in my own fears and doubts. "I was stupid, Michael. I was blind to my feelings. I had no idea Chris would try to take her to prom." Michael nodded understandingly. "Yeah, he showed up out of nowhere. Sarah thought you'd be the one to take her. She really believed in you two." I felt a pang of guilt, my heart aching with remorse. "I had no idea. I was so caught up in my own head." Michael continued, his words a gentle breeze on a summer day. "But here's the thing, Robin. I think Sarah still feels the same way about you. She was hurt, but she didn't give up on you entirely. She's been struggling to come to terms with everything." Mr. John, who had been listening attentively, spoke up, his voice warm and encouraging. "Michael's right, Robin. Sarah needs time, but she also needs to see that you're committed to change. That you're willing to work through your issues and fight for your relationship." I took a deep breath, determination coursing through my veins like liquid fire. "I will, Mr. John. I promise. I'll do whatever it takes to win her back, to regain her trust." As we waited in silence, the only sound the ticking of the clock, I couldn't help but think about what Michael had said. Sarah still cared about me. She had believed in us. And now, I had a chance to make it right. The minutes ticked by, each one feeling like an eternity, until finally, we heard the sound of the front door opening. Sarah walked in, looking breathtakingly beautiful in her prom dress, her eyes sparkling with a mix of emotions. "Hey," she said, her voice soft, her eyes locking onto mine. My heart skipped a beat. This was it. My chance to make things right. To prove myself. To win her back. Sarah's eyes sparkled with curiosity as she gazed at me, her voice gentle, devoid of anger or resentment. "You're the last person I expected to see here, Robin. What brought you here, after everything that's happened between us?" I took a deep breath, my heart racing with anticipation, as Mr. John and Michael stood up, their movements synchronized, like a well-rehearsed dance. "We'll give you two some space," Mr. John said, his smile warm, his eyes understanding, as he nodded towards the door. "Yeah, sorry again for being rude earlier, Robin," Michael added, his expression sincere, his voice filled with remorse, as he turned to leave. "No worries, Michael. Thanks for understanding," I replied, my gaze never leaving Sarah's face, drinking in the sight of her, like a parched traveler at an oasis. As they exited the room, the door creaked softly behind them, leaving Sarah and me alone, surrounded by an uncomfortable silence, like two strangers in a crowded room. Sarah broke the silence, her voice barely above a whisper, like a summer breeze rustling leaves. "So, what brings you here, Robin? What makes you think you can just show up again like nothing happened?" I took a step closer, my eyes locked on hers, my heart pounding in my chest, like a drumbeat in the darkness. "I came to apologize, Sarah. For everything. For hurting you, for not being there when you needed me, for being blind to my feelings, for letting fear and doubt consume me, mostly, for using you as a bet. I did that when I haven't gotten to Know you this close, I regret my action in general, never knowing that my stupidity would get me to ruin." Sarah's expression softened, her eyes searching mine, like a detective searching for clues. "Why now, Robin? Why after all this hours? Why after you've had hours to think about it?" I took another step closer, my voice filled with emotion, like a river overflowing its banks. "Because I realized too late that I love you, Sarah. That I was stupid to let you go. That I need you in my life, like air to breathe, like water to drink." Sarah's gaze never wavered, her voice gentle, like a mother soothing a crying child. "I loved you too, Robin. But you hurt me. You broke my trust, like a fragile vase dropped on stone." I nodded, my eyes filling with tears, like a stormy sky. "I know. And I don't expect forgiveness overnight. But I want to earn back your trust, Sarah. I want to prove myself to you, like a knight proving his worth to his queen." The room fell silent again, the only sound our ragged breathing, like two runners at the finish line. Finally, Sarah spoke, her voice barely audible, like a whisper in the wind. "I need time, Robin. Time to think, to heal, to figure out if I can ever trust you again." I nodded, my heart heavy with emotion, like a weightlifter carrying a heavy burden. "I understand, Sarah. Take all the time you need. I'll be here, waiting for you, like a sailor waiting for the tide to turn."
