The car finally came to a halt, and I remained silent throughout the entire drive, my heart still racing and refusing to calm down.
"We have arrived," Mr. Han announces, turning to face me as he veers to the right.
"Will she believe us? Because you are not my type." He exclaims dramatically, disregarding my glare.
Truly, this person belongs in an asylum. As if I ever asked him to be my boyfriend. It was he who proposed the idea, and now he has the audacity to complain.
"Fine then, Mr. Han. I'll leave," I scoff, unfastening my seatbelt.
"My bad– I just wanted to tell you that you are absolutely my type Ms Anna," he leans to his right before I turned to gaze at him. "That is why I want you to be my girl." His tone lacks any hint of jest, and the way he looks at me is unlike anything I have experienced before, not even with Dylan.
"Idiot." I mumble as I look away to open the door.
Before I could complete my action, Mr. Han calls out, "Ms. Anna." I turn to my keft with furrowed brows.
Click, the his phone camera shot a selfie of us...
"What are you doing?" I exclaim, shifting in my seat to reach for the phone in his hand.
"Just checking how we look together," he replies, a mischievous smile playing on his lips as he hides the phone behind his back. "Don't worry, you look great in it." He adds, leaning forward and bringing his face dangerously close to mine. I quickly move away and settle back into my seat, avoiding any eye contact.
"Okay, let's take another picture," he declares, raising his phone high to capture the moment. "Smile, Ms. Anna."
I smile at the phone, glancing at him as his eyes remain fixed on my image in the phone. He turns his head, leaning closer, his left hand still holding the phone aloft while his right hand moves away from the steering wheel and inches towards my face. My heart skips a beat as I gaze at him, feeling a rush of anticipation. He gently holds the bridge of my glasses and removes them. I blink, realizing that I had been nearly gawking at him.
"Now," he says, turning back around to pose for the photo.
I force a smile for the camera, once he took a photo, I immediately look away in an attempt to calm myself down.
"Wow... We look absolutely perfect together," he remarks, his eyes fixed on the screen of his phone as he zooms in on my image.
He brings the phone closer to me, a playful smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "But you look a little flushed," he teases.
Is he trying to embarrass me?
Without uttering a word, I step out of the car and slam the door shut. He follows closely behind as I walk away in long strides with frustration. Surprisingly, Mr. Han manages to match my pace, walking beside me. My body freezes as his hand finds its way around my waist.
I look up at him, a frown etched on my face, while he looks down at me. "We'll look even more like a couple." He explains. I stay silent, glaring up at him.
"Okay, I get it," he mutters, removing his hand from my waist and slowly sliding it down to my hand, until our palms intertwined, my smaller hand enveloped by his warm, large one.
"I suppose holding hands is acceptable." he blurts out, rubbing the back of his neck and looks straight ahead, deliberately avoiding my gaze. But I continue to stare at him.
Dylan always says I look intimidating when I glare. Maybe he's right.
"Okay," he sighs alpid with hunched shoulders as he unfolds his fingers and walks ahead.
His hold, it didn't last longer but when he took his hand away my hands felt something missing, the warmth, it felt great. I shake my head to let go of my absurd thoughts and I follow him inside.
The restaurant is situated by a picturesque lake, and it's currently half past seven. The lights and the carefully arranged lampshades create a splendid ambiance in the night. The entire establishment is encased in glass, allowing guests to enjoy the view while remaining indoors. The tables are adorned with white tablecloths and a hint of red, creating an atmosphere that is perfect for a romantic evening. However, I find myself here with someone solely for the purpose of putting on a facade.
We make our way up to the second floor, and I follow Mr. Han closely since I have no clue where to go. He stops in his tracks by a table as his phone rings and wait behind him.
"I've arrived mom." He says as soon as he answers the call. He hangs up and gestures me to sit in, at the chair imby the transculent wall and he takes his seat next to mine.
He is going through the menu while I'm just viewing the lake through the glass. It's almost eight ,the waiter brought the food as well but she didn't arrive yet.
"It has to be absolutely perfect, alright?" he insists for the fifth time, emphasizing the importance of our performance. I choose to remain silent, responding with a simple hum, and an awkward silence settles in.
"Hey," I divert my attention from the view to meet the person we have been anxiously waiting for.
Damn... who could possibly say no to a girl like her? She is dressed in a stunning red pleated frock that gracefully falls just above her knee. The asymmetrical neckline accentuates her elegant swan-like neck, and the blonde waves at the either sides are pinned behind in braids.
She takes a seat across from Mr. Han, flashing him a smile.
"Hello, Han! It's been a while," she greets him with a soothing voice.
"Good," he responds dryly, offering her a feeble smile.
I wonder why he doesn't ask her how she's been or engage in a more friendly conversation. It seems like both of them are doing fine though, and he doesn't appear to want to send her away.
"Oh, she is–?" she inquires, directing a smile towards me. I return the gesture with a smile of my own.
"She's..." he begins to explain.
"His assistant," I interject, my interruption catching Mr. Han off guard. He turnes his and looks at me.
I mentally slap myself for my impulsive outburst. I can see the questioning look in his eyes, as if he's asking for an explanation. Anna, why couldn't you just keep your mouth shut? I've started ruining things right from the start.
Curiosity evident in her tone, she asks, "What is she doing here?" Her voice carries a hint of annoyance.
Mr. Han raises an eyebrow at me, urging me to respond. I know he's doing it intentionally, as a consequence of my earlier interruption.
"I— I just happened to come across him," I stammer, nervously fidgeting with my fingers.
"He is having a date with me, and it's rather impolite for you to be here," she states calmly, her voice still tinged with anger.
Her words catch me off guard. I didn't expect someone with such a pleasant face to be so mean. I understand the awkwardness of the situation, with me being his assistant and all, but her comment feels unnecessarily harsh.
"I... umm... I'll leave you two alone," I respond calmly, reaching for my bag as if to leave. However, I hesitate when Mr. Han grabs my arm, silently signaling for me to stay.
"Let's dig in." Mr. Han says with subtle nod. He grabs his fork when Ibsettle back i to the seat.
Okay this is awkward it's completely awkward and embarrassing I just need to leave and learn to keep my stupid mouth shut.
"Eat," he whispers to me , placing my bag back I pick up the cutlery.
"Why were you late?" Mr Han asks taking a bite of his steak.
"Caught up with some work." she answers taking a sip of the orange juice.
She goes on talking to him about her family, her dad, and her work .She asks Mr Han some questions, and he answers her. Everything is going fine here except for me being in this situation in a place where I shouldn't.
This is why he took me to shopping, to sit here and chew the steak watching them chat.
"This is not the first time Han, mom, is trying to push both of us, and I've already told you I'm okay with it." She shrugs.
This part of their conversation totally got my attention. I chew the food in my mouth, and my ears are working on them.
"I know, but I've already told you the first time we met." Mr. Han replies.
"Don't you even have a little part of me in your heart. Didn't you have even felt anything about me every time we met, and today is our fifth date Han but you keep telling the same thing again," he places the cutlery on the table and looks at her. "I'm telling you, Han, I've liked you since the time I saw you 3 years ago. Stop doing this. You always keep quiet when I talk about this."
"I've explained to you." He says bluntly.
Pushing my plate aside I pull forward the dessert ,the mousse looks soo good and my eyes has been on it for a long time, as I'm invincible here now I can just eat this up as both are just chatting leaving the poor meat half. The cow risked its life for is, and you leave it half-eaten, isn't it disrespectful.
"Han, listen! .I can't refuse your mom like you asked me to, and I can't lie about my feelings for you."
The mousse melts in my mouth, tantalizing my taste buds and transporting me to another world. The sounds around me begin to fade into the background, and I find myself paying little attention to the conversation happening nearby. My mind is solely focused on the delightful sensation of the food I'm
"How long are you going to wait for her? You have no idea where she is? She left you Han do you think that she will show up out of nowhere."
"Lara..."
Mr. Han's voice takes my attention,  Lara, so that's her name. The angel with devil personality.
"I just hate this. You are making things complicated. Just move on. Your mom is sick about you, and yet you care to wait and look for her, you–"
"I'll find her."
That was stern, cold, and loud enough to reverberate in my eardrums. Startled, my grip on the spoon loosened, causing it to clatter against the table, breaking the silence that hung between them.
Lara snaps at me, "Bitc..."
Before she could conplete the word, my body tensed up. A wave of numbness washed over me, leaving me disoriented and struggling to comprehend the situation unfolding before me. Abruptly, Mr. Han lunged forward, his lips forcefully meeting mine. His hand found its way to the back of my neck, holding me in place. I sat there, eyes wide open, unsure of how to react, frozen in the moment, astonished.
