PROLOGUE
"My period's late."
Having her said that, the fear in his eyes is ineffable. His cat like eyes, with the most unique pupils like compressed in a vertical slits rather than circles - had suddenly lost it's spark. He stood there, stunned to even mutter a single sound, while she gape at him and feeling sick.
She just said the words that knock something off a shelf to get his attention, and now he's staring at her with confused eyes, watching for her reaction too.
"Y-You might be wrong. We didn't --" he was beyond belief.
"I'm flying back to Poland in three days. I need to make sure I'm not---"
She couldn't say it. No way she's going to say it.
"Yang Jungwon--" she bites her lip to stop muttering another word.
He pulled away, so fast, and the distance is enough to say he's getting ready to flee. The bewilderment, in full measure, is sufficient to tell they've screwed themselves up.
Hyejin never cried over a sad movie or an empathy for another, she don't express her pain that way. She was born a fighter, leaving her home at the age of 15 to train to another city and was sent to Poland at 18 to pursue her greatest love - figure skating. She somehow created a blockage for her tears, perhaps it's functional. She'd been through a lot and crying was never going to do her any good. But fearfully, that time, it's about to drop.
"Stay here. I'll be back in a minute."
She drew out air for the assurance but the relief it gave, not entirely so. Hyejin saw Jungwon make a call while she stood there, occasionally glancing at him and on the kit placed on the cashier's table and was torn on what to grab hold first.
"Someone's comin' to help us." he said after getting back a little faster than she expected.
Hyejin is at the point where everything's doesn't make sense, nothing's helping and soothing her creeps away. She just needs to get that kit but looking closely at herself in a sturdy mirror, she looked like a minor, therefore, the apprehension.
Seeing her so silently beaten, Jungwon strived to reach for her hand but halted. It won't do any comfort, they are splintered and run up by what abouts.
Hyejin paced back, away from him. Trying to control her fidgeting hands, she breathes out and ease her mind running deep in circles. The store clerk is snoring in his sleep, a lucky thing, for he didn't notice the stir of discomforts between her and the Enhypen's leader.
Hyejin lost track of time. It's feel like they're just standing there, zoning out, when suddenly, she heard a clank. The door opened, revealing a lovely woman and how she calmly approached Jungwon.
His Noona? Definitely not. Hyejin can absolutely recognize his sister so easily because Jungwon once showed her their siblings bond portrait.
She hid herself on one of the shelves but ears wide to get a tiniest sound of their whispered conversation. Hyejin can tell the lady is skilled, acts calmly in a very demanding situation. She's talking to Jungwon but maintained the stance as if they're just casually talking like strangers passing by. Putting it all together, she knows, the woman plays an important role to Won or one of Enhypen member's life. A Hybe staff or something deeper than that.
She softly jerked when Jungwon catch her eyes. His long, steady stare followed by the heaviest sigh is something that snaps jeopardy in her eyes. His cat like eyes, the one that sparkles when he laughs, was slowly covered with obvious qualms awakening her deepest fear.
Hyejin's heart sank seeing Won fleeing out. So that's it. After all the revel they had, he's just going to leave her alone just like that. The harsh reality of falling for an idol hits her hard, right straight to her breaking heart. The understanding added to her agony after realizing that Park Sunghoon, was never wrong.
She followed him walking away with her misty eyes, back turned against her and not looking back. Park Sunghoon's voice lingered up in the air, conveying the warning she easily ignored.
"Don't you ever fall in love with Yang Jungwon. He'll stand up for us, that's a guarantee, but not going to stand up for you."
"Y-Yang Jungwon--" her voice broke before the sob escaped.
"Hi--"
The lovely lady appeared in front of her sight, smile's in sympathy with her shattering heart. She held her hand, and she felt a a little hope. But she's losing it, at one point, Hyejin broke down finally.
She broke down in the arms of a stranger. How ridiculous it could get.
"It's okay. I'm here to help you. You can trust me." she consoles her. "I'm Choi Aerin."
It somehow ring a bell. She was open mouthed recalling a hard kept secret Jungwon once told her that Lee Heeseung ran away with Choi Aerin and the company just covered the whole drama.
"I-I'm Park Hyejin. I need your help, Eonnie."
Aerin nodded fast, like a thought reader, she grabbed the kit fast and laid down the money on the counter, startling the awakened staff.
"What the--?"
"Keep the change. Where's your washroom?"
Hyejin was stunned by how fast Aerin moves. She stood there with her mouth's agape, unsure of what to do. The next thing she knew, she's facing the kit with fearful eyes and shaky hands as she waits for the moment of truth.
"Do you want me to come inside, Hyejin?" she heard Aerin asked.
The lady is one of a kind. For a total stranger like her, she stayed like a true best friend. Hyejin grabbed the kit and enfolds it in her hands. She can't see it. Damn right, she cannot.
"Eonnie--" she nervously muttered after letting her in.
"What's the result?" Aerin asked, hiding the jitters.
"I cannot--" Hyejin shakes her head in great fear.
"Let me see." Aerin cuffed her cold hand to grab away the analysis kit.
Hyejin was stalled, felt like her world stopped spinning she couldn't hardly breathe. She can see Aerin spotted the stick-like kit and how quickly her reaction went from placid to a bit arrayed.
"How old are you, Hyejin?" she asked.
"N-Nineteen--"
"Did you really do it with Won?" she asked again, eager for an answer.
Did she really? She couldn't remember. She was completely clueless just like Yang Jungwon is.
"I don't know. We-- I--"
"Maybe it's just your hormones getting a little bit stacked up. Don't be too hard on yourself."
Hearing those words, Hyejin shoulders dropped as the tension drained away and the knot in her stomach finally loosened. Finally, she let out a long breath she didn't know she'd been holding for how long. She pressed her back on the hard wall, feeling weightless - a sense of relief after realizing her mistake had not caused any harm.
"Aerin--"
Coming out of nowhere, a man entered the cubicle, face fully covered but eyes looking strained. She saw Aerin whispered something to the man and how fast his eyes was capped by relief.
"We need to go."
"But, Hee-- She's--"
"We can't stay here, babe."
Hyejin was tongue-tied, unable to get her words out while she stared at the couple right in front of her. Choi Aerin and Lee Heeseung was indeed in a serious relationship.
"Leader's order. I'm sorry."
Having Heeseung said those words, Hyejin's heart dropped into her stomach. A feeling of dread covered her in as her perception of Yang Jungwon made a turbulent turn. A freaking asshole. Why did she let herself enter far down into the rabbit hole?
"We need to leave this place now." Heeseung stated to Aerin, a little bit resolute. "Someone is coming to get you here, Hyejin. I'm sorry, you can't come with us. Hoon is clueless about all of this."
She's not pregnant, it deserves a celebration, but being forsaken in the middle of adversity unbridled the fury she didn't know she have got. Jungwon, leaving her entirely, in a moment of need, is such a cowardly act.
Hyejin wiped a single tear that had fallen. The Enhypen's leader doesn't deserve a single drop. She can honestly say she don't hate anyone, making her a freak in this world but that was minutes ago. Meeting Yang Jungwon, right from the very start, is such a big mistake.
"Can you do me a favor?" Hyejin halts the couple that's trying to run.
Heeseung and Aerin stopped, faces in sympathy with her agonized stance, but weak enough to disobey the leader's command.
"Tell your good leader to go to hell, might as well enjoy his trip." she hushed in extreme disgust.
After minutes of being so alone, the pain finally ebbed, like the feel of knives in her back, the long blades slicing into such sensitive flesh. She was ripped apart and couldn't believe. Her fragile heart - it's not for everyone, it's not for the ones who threw the knives.
It's not for him. Definitely not for Yang Jungwon.
