Chapter 2: The Leader's Card

Four years passed by so quickly. They're on the top of their game. They scurried up the ladder of success about as quickly as anyone can with the leadership of Yang Jungwon. It took everyone by surprise. How did the youngest leader do that in such a short amount of time? Well, the answer is really not that complex. Yang Jungwon worked hard for it.
"Are you all okay with the six succeeding tracks? I can tell them to trim it down to only four. Because the moment we took that stage, there's no turning back anymore." Jungwon asked while anxiously glancing at his members as they all wait for their turn of performance.
"Damn--" Jay muttered in frustration.
"In a serious note, that sounds exhaustion for me." Jake was in disbelief.
"I can cope up. Just tone down with the dance." Sunoo uttered confidently.
"Are you talking to me, Sunoo Hyung? Okay, I got ya!" Ni-Ki, in an absolutely distressing situation, tried to jest.
"I'm worried for Heeseung Hyung. The last two tracks are going to strain him." Jungwon looked at Heeseung, who in a not surprising state, is obviously not listening with eyes hovering around the venue.
"Heeseung Hyung!" he called, eyebrows are bumping in irritation.
"W-What?" Heeseung asked in confusion.
"Stop it." Jungwon fret, making the other members laughed in unison. "She's not going anywhere."
"I'm sorry." Heeseung crimp in embarassment. "What is it again?"
"I want to know if you can manage the six succeeding tracks with our mics on." he repeated, authority in his voice.
"Yeah. No problem. If I faint, someone's going to catch me for sure." Heeseung laughs.
"Aish! Have some respect for us single men, will you?" Sunghoon cuts in, eyes glaring at Heeseung. "Ah, I can't wait for this to be over. I can smell the one month break from right here. I'm going to go babe hunting." Sunghoon added, laughing.
The air was filled with sniggering laugh, a nice way to loosen up the stress a little bit. They were all put to a sudden stop after hearing a staff called their attention.
"Enhypen, you're next!"
"Okay, gather up!" Jungwon put them to assemble in a circle position after hearing the voice prompt. "We can't change it now. And I think Yuki couldn't stop what they want either. It will be six tracks. I want you all to be agile as possible but let's stay mindful to one another. No one is collapsing until the last track, do you understand?" he said, activating his leader card on.
"Ni-Ki, just moderate the dance." he ordered.
"Got it." Ni-Ki nodded fast.
"Heeseung Hyung, Jay Hyung and Jake Hyung, focus on vocals, tone down with the dance. I don't want to read another review we're lip synching." Jungwon continued.
"Loud and clear." Jay fastly answered.
"Let's gaur!" Jake breathes out, jumping on his feet.
"I'm so pumped up right now, I can do both." Heeseung chuckled.
"Sunoo Hyung, Sunghoon Hyung, Ni-Ki and myself will counterbalance for you three." Jungwon gave the assurance. "I repeat, no one is going to slump in a middle of the performance! Is that clear?"
"Got it, leader-nim!" the members replied in a synchronous yell.
"Let's get this work done and take that break!" he shouts, giving the energy they all needs.
They finally stepped out to conquer the stage. The screams were in unison with their hearts beating in distress and with the dissonant sound blasting from everywhere.
He took the center position, like he always do, wearing that feline face. His cat-like appearance; strong features, small nose, breach in the iris underneath the pupil and an arched brow - is his deadly stance. Yang Jungwon's duality is insane, it could make jaw dropped that easy as you begin to wonder how does a soft, cutesy kitten-like man could turn into fearsome tiger into a split seconds.
Time went so fast, four tracks down and Jungwon can see the pains in his members eyes. His mind is shouting loose it up a little bit seeing Heeseung's energy still at par. Ah, the wonders love can do. Being in love with Choi Aerin is Heeseung's given stamina.
Glancing at Ni-Ki, he's still keeping up, the maknae's energy is still top notch. But Sunoo and Sunghoon are having a hard time enduring the exhaustion. Already struggling with the rapid pace, Jungwon saw them making side pain signals to the Hybe's staff just nearby. And hearing Jay and Jake's voice goes in a ramshackle, he knew, they too, are laboured as the rest.
Shit.
Jungwon's mind panicked thinking about the worst case scenario. But no, he trusts his team. They're going to get the work done and enjoy the break. He's going to let them reap the benefits of their hardwork. He too, will do the same for himself.
Picking up the tune of the last track, Jungwon breathes in relief. A two minute song won't hurt that much. Taking their finale positions and proceeds to their last statures, he was so proud of his members, he could've cried in delight.
Then, a lights out. Their work's done. The aim was complete. That temporary darkness is his chance to say his words.
"You all did a great job. I couldn't be more proud of you all." he hushed to all, forgetting himself, as his chest swinging like a pendulum does.
Dragging their feet back to the waiting room and after seeing his members in pain but still smiling, Jungwon was hit by a sudden realization and was filled by a vast degree of self-esteem. He lead that team, the team that made history by becoming the fastest K-pop group to have double "million-seller" albums. Their engagements are crazy especially on various social media platforms in almost every lists of views and streams. Enhypen are now taking the world like a storm.
How did he do it? He didn't know actually. He was just put in a position to lead, he's just doing the job.
"Great job, Won. It was tough, I know. But you still managed to pull it through. Thank you for leading your team." Yuki commended and heaved a sigh of relief.
Jungwon chuckled, face turned like a little kid grinning in compliment that fast. Easily, he was back to his normal self.
"Nah. They all did a good job, Yuki. I just told them not to faint or else the break is cancelled." his shoulders shrugged with his own jest.
"Well, because of that warning, they did not. Thank you for being an effective leader." Yuki praised again, patting his shoulders.
"Yeah! Cheers for the best leader, Yang Jungwon!" Jay, who's tirelessly laying on the floor, raised the water bottle up in the air.
"Cheers!" Sunoo tossed his drink up too. "Ah, my side hurts!" he flinched.
"Finally, the break I'm looking forward for years. Let's gaur!" Jake screamed in delight.
"I can't wait to go home." Ni-Ki muttered restlessly.
"Me too." Sunghoon seconded and in an obvious manner, zoning out again.
"Sunghoon Hyung--" Jungwon let himself sit beside the spaced out Sunghoon. "About what you said earlier--" he whispered.
Sunghoon, when tired, is looking a little lazy to move or even think. He faced Jungwon with exhausted eyes. "About what?"
Jungwon shyly nudge him, quite embarrassed to utter the word. "B-Babe something?"
Sunghoon chuckled, his slant eyes immediately turned into a horizontal slit with the shrugging laugh. "Babe hunting? Dude, are you being serious?"
"Oh!" Jungwon was left immobile. "My bad."
"Why?" Sunghoon had a sudden change of expression, from inattentive to a complete tease. "Do you want to go "babe hunting" with me, Jungwonie?"
"W-Well--" he grasp for a decent explanation. "Ni-Ki is flying to Japan. Jay Hyung and Jake Hyung have no plans of leaving this city. Sunoo Hyung is travelling with his family. Heeseung Hyung is definitely spending his time with Choi Aerin. My parents and my Noona are out of the country for the next three months. If I go home, that would be weird, don't you think?"
"So, you're gonna go "babe hunting" with me?" Sunghoon continues to laugh.
Jungwon pouts. "Why not? If Heeseung Hyung can do it, why can't we?" he rode the chaff.
"No. I don't want to put myself in trouble." Sunghoon was quick to dissent. "And besides, that "babe hunting" is just a joke!"
Jungwon groans, like a kid restricted for a playtime. "You told me you're going to teach me ice skating when our schedule's clear. This is it. No. You promised me." he puts emphasis on the significant word.
"What?! That was four years ago!"
Jungwon sniggered, defeating the surprised Sunghoon. "But a promise is a promise, not a kiss in the wind, to be thrown about without care."
"No way!"
"Leader's order. Sorry, Hyung."
"Don't pull that leader card on me, Yang Jungwon."
Jungwon smirked, in a way that an opponent would creep and fall like a loser. He faced Sunghoon with a triumphant stare.
"I just did."
