Chapter 6: Dilemma

Some say, never watch the sky as you fall, take a glance at the ground for the safest place to land. He fell, yet, it felt like gravity was his friend, so are her arms.
Jungwon was immobile as the rest of his face. She too, was frozen for maybe five whole seconds before the corners of her mouth resumed it's usual softness and her eyes moved to quit staring.
"Are you okay?!" Hyjein asked, hands pulling his shirt to stop him from plummeting, head first on the icy rink.
He looked at her, at first, startled to even flicker. Yes, it was the girl in the portrait with a pretty smile. The one who called him a bonehead and beat him out with no mercy.
"H-Hyejin--?"
"What do you think you're doing?! You don't do that if you're a newbie! You almost hit your head!"
Jungwon couldn't adjust his eyes to focus on her panic-stricken face. She was struck with horror but still looks sublime. Inadvertently, his reckless move could have caused great danger but she just came just in time and never hesitated to save.
"Yang Jungwon--" her chest waved in great distress. "Don't ever do that again!"
She called him by his name and the concern is apparent. Every part of Jungwon's face goes in a brilliant smile. He is a lucky cat as what they say. And that moment, he began to understand the truth behind the precept.
"I'm sorry--" he whimpered, lifting his body to stood property. "I don't mean to scare you out. I know it's so stupid to do that move, but, thanks for saving me anyway."
Hyejin levered up. She threw another glance at Jungwon dusting himself off. The Enhypen's leader is such a baby, thinking and acting like one, and she begins to wonder if she's seeing the real Yang Jungwon. He's just so different on camera than in real life.
She wanted to glide away, thinking it's not the best time to have that run through after experiencing a worrying scene. And being with Yang Jungwon in the same place gave her the intimidation she didn't know she'll able to feel.
"Are you going for a practice?" Won halts her feet.
"H-How--?"
"Sunghoon Hyung told me." he answered quickly. The smile is not leaving his face. "Ice queen? Wow."
Not really a serious remark but Hyejin's turned incredibly pink. She turned her head away, hiding the redness that came so suddenly. Somehow, she couldn't understand the shyness, but being with an Enhypen member will surely knock someone out, in real sense.
"I'm not really that skillful. Save your compliment to someone who's worth the praise."
"Really?" he smiled even more, not buying her chaff. Those deep dimples on his cheeks quickly divulged. "I know I haven't seen it yet but I'm not taking it back. You won't earn that praise if you're a mediocre."
She blushed, and it caught his eyes like a picture perfect setting. It's a kind of blushing that shows the soul, a sort of compliment to the eyes. It's a visible connection, the shyness came from some deep emotion. And it's a beautiful thing, something that's genuine.
"Y-You're good too--" Hyejin lips parted in her surprise mutter.
Jungwon shyly scratched his head, couldn't believe he was shot by a "ditto". "You're not serious, like,  really?"
Hyejin's remark got him like a flying spinner. He threw it first but came back to him, hitting him at a faster speed. Jungwon couldn't grasp the words or how to react for once.
"I think I need to go." Hyejin attempting a run out.
"No." Jungwon stopped her fast. "You stay. I have no business here anyway, just an intruder." he chuckled. "You go do your thing. I promise not to peak."
"I don't mean to call you that--" Hyejin was shocked after recalling their very first encounter. "I'm sorry. I just thought you are--"
"No, no." Jungwon finally giggled. "It's okay, really. Can we just forget about it and be friends? If you want?"
Being Park Sunghoon's cousin is enough. The pride she has knowing she got a famous family member. But being friends with the Enhypen's leader, that would be too much. Or maybe she's just lucky. Not all people, especially girls, would be given such a once in a lifetime chance.
"W-Well--" Hyejin was caught in a suprise rush, words stuck she began to swallow. "I--"
"Will anyone be angry? I mean, do you have--"
"No. Of course not." Hyejin cannot describe the sudden giddy frisson.
Jungwon giggled again, coming close to a child's laugh. He really looks like a kid with his chortling habit, so different when he's up to perform. Hyejin couldn't believe one people can possess some kind of duplexity and only Yang Jungwon can do that.
"Great! Then you're my girl friend now."
Hyejin almost tripped, losing her balance. "W-What?"
Jungwon laughed more harder. "I mean, "girl" friend. I don't have a female friend but I think, not anymore. It feels nice to be friends with you, Hyejin." his mouth raised into a smile, even the sparkly, thick ice couldn't outshine it's beam.
It was cold - ice cold, but how can his beautiful smile melt the chilliness away? Cleary, he saw the shock register on her face before she could even hide it. Hyejin cleared her throat and pulled her sight away. His grinning face, it's too much to take, too cute one could falter. She's getting unstable she couldn't believe.
"Uhm, Hyejin-a, your favorite drink wasn't available. So I just got you some-- Oh, who do we have here?"
Hearing Ahn Minhyuk's voice is her temporary relief. It saved her from being a stagnant fool. Hyejin cleared her throat but grasped for a needed introduction.
"Minhyuk, this is-- Yang Jungwon. Sunghoon Oppa's good friend and the Enhypen's leader." she started. "Won, this is Minhyuk, my routine partner."
"E-Enhypen? L-Leader?" Minhyuk was kinda lost.
"He came here with Sunghoon Oppa."
Minhyuk was put in a standstill, eyes fixed in Jungwon's face as if he's trying to process something. "Oh! Isn't he the guy you've been staring at for fifteen---?"
Hyejin fastly nudged him, eyes grow big to tell him to cut it alll off. "Let's start now. Might not waste another time. You suck with the quad."
"Yah! That was harsh!" Minhyuk strongly disagreed.
Startled to see another man approached Hyejin, Jungwon let out a soft sigh. That was so quick to clear up his doubts. He glided forward to reached Hyejin and by then, he smiled again, catching her gaze.
"I really need to go now. See you around, Hyejin. It's nice to meet you, Minhyuk."
Minhyuk just proceed to gave him a nod, face was still in disbelief.
"I'm so sorry. It's a standard procedure not to let other people in everytime we are on rehearsal."
"Why are you apologizing? Of course I do understand. I'm going now. Fighting, ice queen!" his laughter bubbled up like a stream, sparkling and joyous.
He understood well. He's an artist, she's an athlete. Both have different strengths but the procedure is just the same. Rehearsals, especially for a performance, is always undisclosed.
Jungwon took his path back, hands on pockets and whistling freely. In that quiet moment, when it feels like all the world is put on pause, he knows he looked like a fool. He's a lucky fool, to see the glitters of the ice track, moreover, to catch a glimpse of her beautiful face. That's a wordless definition for joy.
"Where have you been?"
Sunghoon's stare is a kind of suspicious. Jungwon buckled up for an answer.
"You're here now, Hyung?"
"Why aren't you responding to my messages?" he asked again, like a fuming father who waited for his head-strong kid for hours.
"Ah!" Jungwon let out a sharp, rumbling laugh. "I left my phone. I went strolling. I thought you'll come home late."
"You went to the rink?" Sunghoon can't help not to ask seeing the pair of skater boots hanging around his shoulders.
Jungwon nodded, winking his eyes like a twit. "Yep."
"Why are you grinning like a cat?'
"Am I not always doing that? Everyone is calling me a cat, because they say I look and act like one. And the rink is empty. I did a short glide." Jungwon tried not to look off guard.
"Did you find it pretty?"
"Who?" Jungwon mind goes in slight panic.
"Is the rink a person?" Sunghoon, when serious and suspicious, is behaving like he's going to punch someone off the wall.
Jungwon's eyes widened in alarm, standing there and taking Sunghoon's stare as if awaiting for an explanation. Those big brawns can throw a fist that will surely knock him out the moment he'll admit he had a conversation with Park Hyejin, and he finds his cousin really pretty.
"Of course not. Why would it be a person?" he threw her head back as a laugh escaped. "But yeah, it's absolutely pretty. The prettiest I've ever seen."
Having said that, Jungwon came to realize he had put himself in a difficult situation. Park Sunghoon is obviously cranky about the whole idea of him getting close to his female family members. Hyejin's pretty, without a doubt. And there's a strong urge he cannot deny, he wanted to see her again.
But then, he needs to get rid of the feeling, tomorrow or much quicker, that's the proper thing. And thinking about the whole picture, presented him with a difficult dilemma.
