CHAPTER 75: This Is New

Back to the current uproar, as they've all observed (except for Travis, who kept wiping away the cockroaches on his legs), Terfinn's vines nearly burst due to a shortage of oxygen. The students believed what Opera did was crossing the line, but they couldn't do anything about it since Opera might fly them away with her fists. Terfinn could not even breathe as he struggled to break free from Opera's grip, which was why he lifted both his hands and gave a "Timeout" gesture to his friends as if he had actually given up. He couldn't fight Opera since she was too strong compared to him who was only good with guns or weapons.
When Ruben noticed Peter's hand gestures, he immediately pinned the green button labeled "Stop," and the bugs that were causing his classmates to lose control stopped moving around; the bugs that were scattered in the ceiling fell off to the ground, and the girls screamed again when the bugs fell off their heads. Travis, who attempted to flick the cockroach off his arm, lifted his brows in bewilderment as to why they dropped off even though he hadn't flicked it off yet. Terfinn and Opera, on the other hand, Opera had already let go of Terfinn when she realized everything had stopped.
When they discovered that the bugs were no longer moving, everyone, including their teacher, realized that Ruben was controlling them all. As a result, their classmates, most of whom were female, screamed and swore at the four of them and the guys glared at them as if they had ruined their morning. But the three; Ruben, Brent, and Peter were only beaming and laughing since they enjoyed their plan working out, while Terfinn bent out his body, choking and coughing from Opera's previous grasp. He glared at her.
"That made my heart skip a beat." Travis deeply sighed, holding tightly his chest as if relieved, "I almost saw the angel of death."
The girls had already cooled down, and once everything had settled down, all of the students returned to their seats and mumbled about what had happened. when investigating one of the toy bugs on his desk, Travis clearly noticed that there were tiny red and blue cords linking its limbs given their small size. Even though it was Ruben who held the remote earlier, Travis comprehended that Brent had manufactured all of the props with his expertise. He then grinned at Brent, who was cracking up from ear to ear while chatting with his companions despite their great distance. "Unbelievable." Travis was astounded by his student's abilities."Brilliant." It was beyond amazing that he created thousands of tiny bugs and programmed them all just to prank him.
Travis put his finger underneath his chin and wondered how this tremendous quantity of bugs fit on his table, which was just twenty-four inches wide, the same length, and two and a half feet tall. The height of the vacant area beneath his table was only ten inches. And all of the small bugs that had been sprawled around the classroom before were contained beneath the desk. The bugs were initially in modest numbers, but Travis understood that the reason he lost track when counting them was that the bugs continued reproducing themselves. It implies that the more they move, the more they reproduce. As a result, they quickly spread throughout the classroom. Travis then deduced that in order for these bugs to propagate, Brent could be employing the cloning approach in programming. Not cloning on the computer, but cloning on these literal toy bugs.
"Well, class, it's a fine trick," Travis stated and the four boys smiled at what he had said. "But don't do this to people who have heart issues, okay?" Travis looked at his students, who were also holding their chests as the bugs totally bothered them a while ago. As a result, Travis comprehended their condition and therefore, concluded, "Well, I think it's best not to do pranks at all." He glanced again at the four boys who started the ruckus. "I want you to clean this up, okay?"
But they gave no response to him at all. They didn't expect his reaction was just like that — like nothing seemed to happen. His earlier reaction was humorous and entertaining, but acting as if he wasn't afraid right now was more troubling for Ruben and Peter. They did obtain what they wanted, but Travis did not chastise them. Travis did not penalize them. Travis didn't raise a voice to them. They were confused as to why Travis would never bother getting furious at them.
As for him, as their teacher, he wandered his sight around his students to check on their daily state. Shira, Maurine, and Andrea, in particular, were murmuring about something. Despite the lengthy seat distance, Janice and Karina chatted about killing and dissecting toads, obtaining their DNA, and researching their anatomy. Kyle, Gregorio, and Victor were talking about a recent soccer game they had seen on TV last night, and their voices were extremely loud. Liam was just listening to them, and he seemed to be interested in what they were talking about. Petra, Clara, and Lila listened to Sara's stories about her previous relationships, and she also provided them advice on how to hook a guy in a glimpse. Opera was simply staring at them. And Zeus, who was sitting next to Lila, became irritated by her stories and recommendations, so he placed his head down as if asleep to avoid hearing her. The only silent people in their class were Liam, Opera, and Mareta. Although Liam and Opera had a circle of friends, only Mareta was the one who had no friends to talk to at all. But she was cool with it and wasn't troubled by it in the least. So as usual, she kept closing her eyes and meditated.
Travis observed that the only students who were not present were Samantha, Emily, and Kenneth – the three students he had invited to a midnight brunch supper. After comprehending their circumstances, Travis had expected this would happen. Crossing both his hands, Travis stated, "You all seem tired. Wanna take a nap first?"
"Yes!" immediate response to the class.
They all stopped what they were doing and were all staring at him, appearing to be listening to him. This was new. Travis recalled his first day in this class, which was rather amusing, but he was pleased that he could already see the class evolving.
"Then, you all go to sleep or do what you want. But until this noon only, okay?" They were glad and screamed, "Yes!" as part of celebrating. "Later in the afternoon, I will take my leave, and someone will substitute me for having you guys assisted," he continued.
"Really?" Clara asked, "Where are you going, Sir Travis?"
Previously, the class was pure anarchy - the students' voices were so loud that a single individual might go deaf in an instant. They resembled people in a raucous bazaar. But just now, they were all completely focused on their teacher, who was speaking in front of the class. Although there were some of them who still kept on talking, their teacher gave no attention to it. At least he could see them progressing. Travis was saved by his patience. If a person respects the masses, the masses will respect the person.
"Oh, there is a sudden appointment in the clinic I was assigned to." Travis lied.
"Clinic? Why? Are you a dentist?" Kyle added.
"No, sweetie. But my teeth ached and I kept changing clinics that's why."
The truth was that Travis' teeth were not aching. He knew lying was immoral, especially in front of his adored students. But he had no choice this time for the sake of his mission. He felt guilty for lying to them, but admitting the truth would only make them more confused, and worse, they could change their views of Travis now that their affections for him had progressively shifted. So, rather than informing them out of malice, Travis should let them uncover his actual motives. Travis was concerned that his class would be disappointed in him.
Generally, people who lie frequently want to be in charge. When the facts of a circumstance do not comply with such control, they fabricate a falsehood that does conform to the preferred conclusion. Such people may also be concerned that the truth may make them appear untrustworthy. And that's what Travis was bothered about.
