Chapter 15: The Truth
The morning sun filtered through the cracks in the cave’s entrance, casting a warm glow over the trio as they prepared for another day on the 17th floor. Despite the previous night’s tension, Jinyuk, Lyra, and Yongyog had managed a few hours of restless sleep. Today, they would continue their quest to uncover the truth behind the tower’s mysteries and deal with the ongoing threat of betrayal.
Jinyuk was checking his equipment when Lyra approached, her face set in a determined expression. “We need to stay focused. The meeting last night was just the beginning. We need to find out more about this floor and what it’s hiding.”
Jinyuk nodded, tightening the straps on his gear. “Agreed. Garret mentioned something about a powerful entity guarding the artifact. We need to find it and deal with it before it’s too late.”
Yongyog fluttered over, his eyes bright with anticipation. “Yongyog ready to help! Yongyog wants to be brave!”
Lyra smiled at the young dragon’s enthusiasm. “You’re already braver than most. We’ll face whatever comes together.”
As they made their way back to the surface, Garret approached them, his expression serious. “Jinyuk, Lyra, I need to speak with you before you head out.”
Jinyuk raised an eyebrow. “What is it, Garret?”
Garret took a deep breath. “After the meeting last night, I did some further digging. I found evidence that suggests the traitor might have ties to an underground faction operating on this floor.”
Lyra’s eyes widened. “An underground faction? What are they after?”
Garret shook his head. “I don’t have all the details, but they’re rumored to be seeking the artifact as well. They believe it holds the key to immense power. If they get their hands on it before we do, they could become a serious threat.”
Jinyuk’s expression hardened. “Then we need to find them and stop them. We can’t let them take the artifact.”
Garret nodded. “I agree. I’ve marked the locations on your map where we’ve had reports of their activities. Be cautious—these factions are known for their deception and traps.”
Lyra looked at the map, her expression thoughtful. “We should start with the area marked as their main hideout. It’s likely they’ll have the most activity there.”
Jinyuk folded the map and tucked it into his pack. “Let’s get moving. We’ll cover as much ground as we can today.”
The trio set out, navigating the treacherous terrain of the 17th floor. The landscape was a mix of rocky outcroppings and twisted vegetation, with strange symbols etched into the ground that seemed to shift and change as they moved.
As they approached the area marked on the map, they encountered a series of traps—spikes hidden beneath the ground, illusionary walls that concealed hidden dangers, and ambush points set by the faction.
Jinyuk led the way, his senses heightened as he detected and disarmed the traps. Lyra followed closely, her eyes scanning for any signs of movement. Yongyog fluttered above, keeping an eye out for any potential threats.
“This place is crawling with traps,” Lyra remarked, her voice tense. “We need to stay sharp.”
Jinyuk nodded, carefully disarming another trap. “Agreed. Let’s stay alert.”
As they continued, they finally reached the entrance to an underground complex, concealed behind a false rock face. The entrance was guarded by a pair of armed sentries, their expressions cold and calculating.
Jinyuk motioned for Lyra and Yongyog to stay hidden. “I’ll handle the guards. Stay ready.”
With practiced precision, Jinyuk took out the guards quietly, his movements swift and silent. Lyra and Yongyog joined him as he opened the entrance, revealing a dimly lit corridor beyond.
Inside, the underground complex was a maze of tunnels and chambers, filled with strange artifacts and symbols. The air was thick with an unsettling energy.
“This place gives me the creeps,” Lyra said, her voice echoing in the narrow passage. “We need to find their leader and get some answers.”
Jinyuk nodded, his expression resolute. “Let’s keep moving. We need to stay focused and be prepared for anything.”
As they ventured deeper into the complex, they stumbled upon a chamber filled with robed figures engaged in a ritualistic ceremony. At the center of the chamber was a large, ornate pedestal, upon which rested a shimmering artifact.
The figures chanted in a low, rhythmic tone, their voices blending into an eerie chorus. Jinyuk and Lyra moved stealthily, their eyes fixed on the artifact.
Suddenly, one of the robed figures turned and spotted them. “Intruders!”
Chaos erupted in the chamber as the robed figures turned their attention to Jinyuk and Lyra. They fought fiercely, their movements coordinated and precise. Jinyuk and Lyra worked together, their combat skills honed through countless battles.
Yongyog flitted around, using his abilities to create barriers and deflect attacks. Despite their best efforts, the robed figures proved to be formidable opponents, their dark magic enhancing their strength and speed.
In the midst of the battle, a figure emerged from the shadows—a tall man with an imposing presence. His eyes glowed with an unnatural light, and his voice carried an authoritative tone.
“So, the heroes have come to challenge us,” the man said, his gaze fixed on Jinyuk and Lyra. “How amusing.”
Jinyuk’s expression hardened. “Who are you? What do you want with the artifact?”
The man smirked. “I am Malek, the leader of this faction. The artifact you seek holds great power. It’s our key to reshaping the world as we see fit.”
Lyra’s eyes flashed with determination. “We won’t let you have it. We’re here to stop you and protect it.”
Malek’s smile widened. “Very well. If you wish to challenge us, then so be it. Prepare yourselves.”
The battle that ensued was fierce and unrelenting. Malek’s dark magic created devastating blasts and illusions that tested Jinyuk and Lyra’s resolve. They fought with everything they had, their movements synchronized and their determination unwavering.
Despite the odds, Jinyuk and Lyra managed to push back against Malek and his faction. Their combined strength and strategy began to turn the tide of the battle.
As the fight raged on, Yongyog darted around, using his abilities to counter Malek’s magic. The young dragon’s bravery and resourcefulness played a crucial role in their defense.
Finally, with a coordinated effort, Jinyuk and Lyra managed to subdue Malek. The leader of the faction fell to the ground, his dark magic dissipating.
Breathing heavily, Jinyuk looked at Lyra. “We did it. We stopped them.”
Lyra nodded, her expression relieved. “It was a tough fight, but we held our ground.”
Yongyog fluttered over, his eyes wide with concern. “Yongyog proud! But tired.”
Jinyuk smiled at the young dragon. “You did great, Yongyog. We couldn’t have done it without you.”
As they collected the artifact and prepared to leave the underground complex, Garret arrived with a group of coalition members. His expression was a mix of relief and gratitude.
“You made it,” Garret said, his gaze shifting to the subdued faction members. “I’m glad to see you’re alright.”
Jinyuk nodded. “We dealt with the faction. They won’t be a threat anymore.”
Garret’s eyes were filled with appreciation. “Thank you. We owe you a great deal. This artifact is crucial, and you’ve helped secure it.”
Lyra looked at the artifact, her expression thoughtful. “What happens now?”
Garret’s expression grew serious. “We’ll need to take the artifact back to our headquarters for further analysis. It’s powerful, and we need to understand its true nature.”
As they prepared to leave the 17th floor, Jinyuk, Lyra, and Yongyog reflected on their journey. The battles they had fought and the challenges they had overcome had strengthened their bond and resolved.
The path ahead was still uncertain, but with the artifact secured and their trust in each other reaffirmed, they were ready to face whatever lay beyond. The tower’s mysteries awaited, and they were determined to uncover the truth together.Download Novelah App
