Chapter 13: The Meeting 3.

As we walked out of Sarah's home, the warm sunlight and fresh air were a welcome relief after the intense conversation we had just had. We stood outside, gathered around our cars, discussing the case and sharing our opinions.
"Well, what do you guys think?" I asked, turning to my partners. "We've got a lot to process after that conversation with Sarah."
Rodriguez shook his head. "I don't know, Jones. This case is getting more complicated by the minute. We've got a grieving widow who's also a suspect, a family feud over land, and a possible embezzlement scheme. It's a lot to untangle."
Peter nodded in agreement. "I know what you mean. I'm having trouble keeping track of all the players and their motives. But one thing's for sure - Sarah's not telling us the whole truth. She's hiding something."
Paul, who had been quiet until now, spoke up. "I think we need to look into the company's finances and see if there's any evidence of embezzlement. If Jordan and Phillips are trying to take the land for themselves, they might have been cooking the books to make it look like Sarah's the one who's been embezzling funds."
Mike nodded. "And we need to talk to John, Sarah's son. He might have some insight into what's been going on in the family. Plus, he's a potential witness to his father's death."
I nodded, making a note in my book. "Agreed. Let's get to work on that. Rodriguez, can you start digging into the company's finances and see if you can find any evidence of embezzlement? Look for any suspicious transactions or discrepancies in the accounting records."
Rodriguez nodded. "On it, Jones. I'll get started right away. I'll also look into the company's history and see if there have been any previous instances of embezzlement or financial irregularities."
Peter spoke up. "And I'll start looking into the family's history and see if I can find any connections between the family members and the land. Maybe there's a pattern of behavior that can help us understand what's going on. I'll also look into the family's relationships and see if there are any potential conflicts or tensions that could have led to the murder."
Paul nodded. "I'll start reviewing the security footage and see if I can find any evidence of foul play. Maybe there's a suspicious person lurking around the property. I'll also look into the company's security measures and see if there are any vulnerabilities that could have been exploited."
Mike spoke up. "And I'll start canvassing the neighborhood and talking to witnesses. Maybe someone saw or heard something suspicious around the time of Gabriel's death. I'll also look into the family's alibis and see if anyone has a rock-solid alibi for the time of the murder."
I nodded, feeling a sense of satisfaction. We were all on the same page, and we were all working together to solve this case. "Alright, let's get to work. We've got a lot of ground to cover, and I have a feeling that this case is going to get a lot more complicated before it's all said and done."
As we dispersed to start our respective tasks, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement. This case was a puzzle, and I loved puzzles. I was determined to solve it, no matter how complicated it got.
"Hey, Jones?" Rodriguez called out as I was getting into my car.
"Yeah?"
"Don't forget to keep an eye on Sarah. She's not what she seems. She's hiding something, and I think she might be more involved in this case than we think."
I nodded, smiling. "Don't worry, Rodriguez. I've got my eye on her. And I think you're right - she's not telling us the whole truth. But we'll get to the bottom of it. We always do."
As I drove away, I couldn't help but wonder what other secrets Sarah might be hiding. This case was just getting started, and I had a feeling that it was going to be a wild ride. I was ready for the challenge, and I was confident that we would solve it. But I knew that it wouldn't be easy - we would have to dig deep and follow every lead to uncover the truth.
I drove to John's school, my eyes scanning the parking lot for any sign of him. I spotted him walking out of the building, laughing with a group of friends. My eyes narrowed as I watched him, trying to get a read on his behavior. He seemed carefree, but I knew that could be a facade. I had been investigating the Thompson case for days, and I was determined to uncover every secret, every lie, and every truth.
As I continued to observe him from a distance, I noticed a girl approaching him. She was petite, with long brown hair and bright green eyes. She smiled up at John, and he wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close. They shared a tender kiss, and I felt a pang of unease. They were young lovebirds, and I couldn't help but feel like I was intruding on their private moment.
I took out my camera and snapped a few photos of the couple, trying to be discreet. I knew stalking was wrong, but I believed this was something I had to do. I needed to understand John's relationships, his dynamics with others. It could be crucial to the case. I was looking for any signs of stress, any hints of deception. I was searching for the smallest crack in his armor, the slightest inconsistency in his story.
As I was taking pictures, my phone rang, shrill in the silence of my car. I answered, my eyes still on John and the girl.
"Detective Jones," I said, my voice firm.
"Hey, Jones. It's Rodriguez," my partner replied, his voice calm. "We've got some people here who want to speak with you."
I raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Who is it?"
"They didn't give their names, but they said it's about the Thompson case. They want to meet with you in person."
I frowned, my mind racing. Who could this be? Were they witnesses, suspects, or something else entirely? I thought back to the case files, trying to remember if anyone had mentioned any mysterious visitors.
"Okay, I'll be right there. But Rodriguez, can you get a description of these people? I want to know what I'm walking into."
"Already on it, Jones. They're two men, dressed in suits. They look like they mean business. I'll get more info, but you should get here ASAP."
I nodded, even though Rodriguez couldn't see me. "Alright, I'm on my way. Keep an eye on them, and don't let them leave until I get there."
I hung up the phone and started the car, my eyes still on John and the girl. They were walking hand in hand, oblivious to my presence. I felt a pang of guilt for spying on them, but I pushed it aside. This was a murder investigation, and I had to do what it took to solve it.
As I drove away from the school, I couldn't help but wonder who these mysterious visitors were. What did they want to discuss about the Thompson case? Were they going to reveal some shocking new evidence, or were they going to try to spin the investigation in a different direction? I had a feeling that this was going to be a game-changer.
I arrived at the station, my heart racing with anticipation. Rodriguez was waiting for me outside the conference room, a serious expression on his face.
"What's the story, Rodriguez?" I asked, my eyes scanning the room.
"They're waiting for you inside," he replied, nodding towards the conference room. "They're being tight-lipped about what they want to discuss, but they seem...nervous."
I raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Nervous? What do you mean?"
"They're fidgeting, avoiding eye contact. They're hiding something, Jones. I'm not sure what it is, but they're definitely not telling us the whole truth."
I nodded, my mind racing. This was getting more interesting by the minute. I took a deep breath and stepped into the conference room, ready to face whatever lay ahead.
As I entered the room, I saw two men sitting across from me. They were dressed in suits, just like Rodriguez had described. They looked like they meant business, but there was something about them that seemed off. Something that didn't quite add up.
"Can I help you gentlemen?" I asked, my voice firm.
One of them spoke up, his voice smooth as silk. "Detective Jones, thank you for seeing us. We're here to discuss the Thompson case."
I raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "What about it?"
The other man leaned forward, his eyes locked on mine. "We have information that may be relevant to the investigation. Information that could change the course of the case."
I leaned forward, my heart racing with anticipation. "I'm listening."
