Chapter 21

Khian's POV
As I drove through the neighborhood, my mind kept circling back to Ethan and the conversation we had. I was still seething with anger at him for the mess with Katherine, but there was a part of me that couldn’t ignore the pangs of sympathy. His situation wasn’t easy, and that realization was gnawing at me.
Lost in these thoughts, I spotted Lily walking down the street. She looked charming in her dress and a cute bow tie on her head. It was a sight that made me smile despite my troubled mood. I decided to pull up beside her and give a friendly honk.
Lily glanced up, surprised. When she saw me, her face brightened into a warm smile.
“Hey, Lily.” I called out, leaning out the window. “Where are you off to?”
She walked over, still smiling. “Hi, Khian! I’m on my way to see Ella. I brought her some flowers to cheer her up.”
I felt a surge of relief. “That’s really thoughtful. Want a ride?”
Lily gratefully accepted and got into the car. We chatted briefly about Ella as we drove, and I admired Lily’s dedication. She was a good friend to my sister, and her kindness towards Ella was heartening.
When we arrived at the house, I parked the car and followed Lily up to the front door. Sophie and Ella were outside, sitting at a side table in the garden. Sophie’s eyes widened when she saw Lily with the flowers.
“Oh. My. Gosh!” Sophie shouted and our of nowhere, she stand up disbelief. “Khian! You didn't told us you and Lily are catching up some sweet alone time! You even brought her a flower, what a sweet kid of you.”
Both Lily and eye exchange a shocked eyes on our faces, I then noticed how red her cheeks turned real red. But then, I quickly stop Sophie and told her that I didn't gave her the flowers to not make it uncomfortable for Lily but she still continue giving a deep meaning of it.
“What?! No! This flower are for Ella! Shut your mouth or I will cut your throat.”
We all laughed as Sophie keep teasing both of us. My sister on the other hands, laughing softly and let the other two battling through words.
Sophie’s teasing only grew stronger. “Oh, I see. A flower for Ella. But I have to say, Khian’s choice of ride makes this whole situation look a bit more romantic.”
“Aish, Shut up! Ella this is for you. I bought it from the old lady I saw down the street.” She smiled sarcasticly before slapping Sophie's back head. It made me giggled.
Ella’s face lit up at the sight of the flowers. “Thank you, Lily! They’re lovely.”
Sophie’s eyes gleamed with mischief as she looked from Lily to me. “Wow, Lily! I didn’t realize you and Khian were so close. Are you sure this flower wasn't given of Khian to you?”
Lily’s cheeks turned a bright shade of red. “Again, it's not! Geez the flowers are for Ella. Just wanted to make her day a bit brighter.”
Sophie’s grin widened as she teased, “Oh, so the flowers aren’t from Khian? I was hoping you guys might date sooner.” she confess feeling disappointment in her voice.
Lily looked flustered, trying to explain quickly. “No, they’re definitely for Ella. Khian didn’t give them to me.”
“Don't worry, I'll add that to my checklist.” I blurted out. All of them looked at me shocked drawing from their faces. I didn't even realize that I said it out loud, that was supposed to be in my head only.
“LILY!! IM SO HAPPY FOR YOU—” Before Sophie could finished, Lily was already covering her face, hiding the red tomato on her face. I swear Sophie's loud voice will broke my eardrum.
Ella watched the playful exchange with a smile, clearly amused by the mix-up. “Thank you again, Lily. The flowers are perfect.”
Lily can only give Ella a thumbs up to her. Sophie, still grinning, took a seat next to Ella. I took a spot nearby, feeling a bit awkward but grateful for the lighthearted moment.
I then didn't notice I was spacing out and trying to focus on something else. Ella, noticing my distraction, gave me a curious look.
“Are you okay, Khian?” she asked softly.
I forced a smile and shrugged. “Yeah, just... thinking about stuff. Nothing important.” I said as I cleared my throat.
She didn’t press further, which was a relief. I didn't want to burden her with the issues I had with Ethan. Instead, I turned to Sophie, trying to change the subject.
“Hey, Sophie,” I said, trying to sound casual. “How about you help Lily with the flower arrangement for Ella?”
Sophie’s eyes lit up at the suggestion. “Great idea! Let’s get that flower in a vase and make history for Ella.”
As Lily and Sophie headed inside, I lingered outside for a moment, taking a deep breath. I knew I couldn’t let my problems show. I had to be strong for Ella and for everyone around me.
When I finally walked inside, the warmth of the house and the sight of Ella smiling at me made everything feel a bit more manageable. Sophie was already setting up the flower, and Lily was chatting with Ella, her nerves clearly easing as she engaged in conversation.
I took a seat next to her, trying to enjoy the moment. Sophie’s playful teasing and Lily’s kind gesture added a sense of normalcy that I desperately needed. For a while, I managed to push aside the issue that been in my mind and focus on the happiness with them.
But even as we laughed and talked, the weight of my concerns about Ethan and the conversation we had lingered in the back of my mind. I knew I had to find a way to deal with it all.
