Chapter 20: End of Season 1

The sun hung low in the sky, casting long shadows over the forest as Zyner, Rolf, Lina, and Tomas huddled together in the clearing. Their hearts raced with anticipation and fear, knowing the plan was set into motion.
“Are we ready?” Zyner asked, glancing at each of them. “This is our moment.”
“I’ve never been more ready,” Rolf replied, his fists clenched in determination.
Lina nodded, her expression firm. “We have to stick to the plan. No matter what happens, we stay together.”
Tomas looked up at them, his small face set with resolve. “I want to help. I can distract them if you need me to.”
“No,” Zyner said quickly. “You need to stay with Lina. We can’t risk anything happening to you.”
“But I can—” Tomas began, but Lina interrupted.
“You’ve already helped more than you know, Tomas,” she reassured him, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder. “We need you safe. That’s the most important thing.”
Zyner turned his gaze back to the clearing ahead, where the soldiers were still gathered, laughing and sharing stories. He felt a surge of determination wash over him. “Okay, here’s the plan. Rolf, you go to the east side of the clearing and create the diversion. I’ll go around to the north and signal Lina to bring Tomas to safety.”
Rolf nodded, his brow furrowing. “Got it. But remember to be careful.”
“I will,” Zyner promised, swallowing hard. “On my signal, we’ll move. We’ll meet back at the camp as soon as we can.”
“Let’s do this,” Lina whispered, squeezing Tomas’s hand. “For everyone.”
As they took their positions, Zyner felt a mixture of excitement and fear. He could hear his heart pounding in his ears, each beat a reminder of the risk they were taking.
“Now,” Rolf mouthed, and Zyner watched as his friend moved stealthily toward the soldiers, ready to enact the distraction.
With one final glance at Lina and Tomas, Zyner slipped away into the shadows of the trees, his breath steadying as he focused on the task at hand. He could hear the soldiers’ laughter growing louder, and a determination ignited within him.
**Meanwhile, Rolf crouched behind a bush, peering at the soldiers.**
“Hey! Over here!” he shouted, jumping out from his hiding spot and waving his arms. “You’ll never catch me!”
The soldiers turned, surprise etched on their faces. “What the hell?” one of them exclaimed, rushing toward Rolf.
Rolf sprinted into the woods, adrenaline surging through him. He could hear the soldiers yelling, their footsteps pounding behind him. He had done it. Now, they were distracted.
**Back with Zyner, he peered through the trees, waiting for the signal.**
The sound of chaos erupted from the direction where Rolf had run, and Zyner knew it was time. He quickly glanced back at Lina and Tomas, his heart racing.
“Let’s go!” he whispered urgently, motioning for them to follow him as they slipped through the underbrush toward the soldiers’ camp.
As they approached, Zyner could see the soldiers breaking into a run, chasing Rolf. He turned to Lina. “Get Tomas to safety. I’ll create a distraction.”
“Be careful!” Lina replied, her eyes wide with worry.
Zyner nodded, determination setting in. “I will.”
He took a deep breath, summoning every ounce of courage, and charged into the clearing. “Hey! You can’t catch him!” he shouted, his voice carrying over the sounds of the chaos.
The soldiers turned, their eyes locking onto him. “You! Get him!” one of them shouted, pointing.
Zyner seized the opportunity and darted to the side, weaving through the trees, leading them further away from Lina and Tomas.
**Meanwhile, Lina crouched low beside Tomas as they made their way to the camp.**
“Do you think they’ll be okay?” Tomas asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
“They will,” Lina replied firmly. “Zyner and Rolf are strong. They won’t let us down.”
They reached the edge of the camp, and Lina looked around to make sure the coast was clear. “Stay here. I’ll keep watch while you hide.”
Tomas nodded, pressing himself against a tree trunk. “I’m ready.”
Lina’s heart raced as she listened for any signs of trouble. She could hear the faint sounds of shouting in the distance, and her resolve hardened. They were counting on each other.
**Back in the woods, Zyner could hear the soldiers crashing through the underbrush behind him.**
“Come on, faster!” he urged himself, adrenaline fueling his legs. He spotted a fallen tree ahead and leaped over it, using every bit of agility he had. He could see Rolf in the distance, darting away, and felt a wave of pride for his friend.
As he ran, he suddenly heard a shout from behind. “There he is! Don’t let him get away!”
Zyner turned, glancing over his shoulder. He could see the soldiers closing in, their faces twisted with anger. But he refused to back down. He would not let fear control him.
“Come on!” he shouted, pushing himself even harder. “You think you can catch me? You’ll have to try harder than that!”
Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through his leg as he stumbled over a root, falling to the ground. The soldiers were almost upon him. He quickly rolled to his feet, glancing back to see them closing in.
“Get him!” one soldier yelled, lunging forward.
Zyner barely managed to dodge out of the way, running again, his heart racing. He was running out of time.
**In the camp, Lina could hear the commotion growing louder.**
“What’s happening?” Tomas asked, anxiety lacing his voice.
“Just stay quiet,” Lina urged, her heart pounding as she peered into the trees. She could see Zyner running, but he wasn’t alone. A soldier was right behind him, almost close enough to grab him.
“Zyner!” she shouted, panic rising in her chest.
He turned, eyes wide as he saw the soldier closing in. “Lina, stay back!” he yelled, adrenaline pushing him to run faster.
But it was too late. The soldier lunged forward, grabbing Zyner’s arm and yanking him back.
“No!” Lina cried, stepping out from her hiding spot.
Tomas followed, his eyes wide with fear. “Zyner!”
**Zyner fought against the soldier’s grip, trying to break free.**
“Get back, you brat!” the soldier shouted, holding him tightly.
“Let him go!” Lina shouted, anger surging through her. “You won’t win this!”
Zyner’s heart raced as he struggled against the soldier’s hold. “Lina, run! Get Tomas to safety!”
But Tomas stepped forward, determination in his small frame. “You can’t take him!”
“Get back, kid!” the soldier barked, but Tomas stood firm, his hands balled into fists.
“Enough!” a voice rang out, cutting through the chaos. The captain of the soldiers stepped into view, surveying the scene with cold eyes. “What’s going on here?”
The soldier holding Zyner hesitated, glancing at the captain. “We caught this one trying to escape, sir.”
The captain’s gaze hardened as he stepped closer. “Is that so? And what do you think you’re doing, boy?” he asked Zyner, a menacing smirk forming on his lips.
“I’m fighting for what’s right!” Zyner shouted back, his voice steady despite the fear clawing at his insides.
The captain laughed, a cruel sound that sent chills down Zyner’s spine. “You think you can win? Look at your friends. You’re outnumbered.”
But just then, Rolf burst through the trees, breathless but resolute. “Zyner! Get back!”
The soldiers turned, and in that moment of distraction, Zyner managed to twist free from the soldier’s grip. He sprinted toward Rolf, determination fueling his every move.
“Go, go, go!” Rolf shouted, rallying the others.
**Lina grabbed Tomas’s hand, pulling him back into the safety of the trees.**
“Stay close!” she urged, her heart racing. “We have to find a way to help them.”
As the soldiers regained their focus, Zyner and Rolf quickly strategized. “We can’t let them take us,” Rolf panted, his eyes scanning for any possible escape routes.
“We need a distraction,” Zyner said, glancing at the woods surrounding them. “Something that’ll give us enough time to get away.”
Suddenly, Tomas’s voice broke through the tension. “I can help!”
“No, Tomas!” Zyner exclaimed, turning to him. “You need to stay safe!”
“I can throw rocks! It’ll distract them!” Tomas insisted, determination shining in his eyes.
Rolf glanced at Zyner, their eyes locking in understanding. “It might work.”
“Alright,” Zyner said, kneeling down to Tomas’s level. “But you stay behind us. You don’t go anywhere near them, okay?”
Tomas nodded vigorously, his small frame trembling with adrenaline. “I promise!”
“Okay,” Rolf said, turning to Zyner. “On three, we charge. Tomas, you throw the rocks when we go.”
Zyner nodded, feeling the weight of responsibility on his shoulders. “One… two… three
!”
**With a shout, they charged toward the soldiers, the element of surprise on their side.**
As Tomas threw rocks toward the soldiers, chaos erupted. The soldiers were caught off guard, scrambling to regain control as Zyner and Rolf closed the distance.
“Go! Now!” Rolf yelled, pushing Zyner forward.
Zyner didn’t hesitate. He ran toward the nearest tree line, the sounds of chaos echoing behind him. They were getting away!
**In the midst of the chaos, Lina pulled Tomas to her side.**
“Come on, we have to find a safe place!” she urged, leading him deeper into the forest.
Tomas looked back, worry etched on his face. “Will they be okay?”
“They will,” Lina reassured him, though her heart raced with uncertainty. “We just have to trust them.”
As they moved through the trees, the sounds of shouting and chaos faded behind them. They had to keep going, keep moving forward.
**Meanwhile, Zyner and Rolf sprinted deeper into the woods, hearts pounding.**
“We need to regroup with Lina and Tomas,” Rolf said, glancing back to make sure they weren’t being followed.
“I know a place nearby,” Zyner replied, leading the way. “We can hide there until it’s safe.”
As they reached the hidden spot, they caught their breath, adrenaline still coursing through their veins.
“Did we lose them?” Rolf panted, peering out cautiously.
“For now,” Zyner said, leaning against a tree, his heart still racing. “But we can’t let our guard down. They’ll be looking for us.”
Just then, Lina and Tomas emerged from the trees, relief washing over them. “We made it!” Lina exclaimed, her face brightening as she spotted Zyner and Rolf.
“Thank goodness!” Tomas said, rushing toward them. “Are you okay?”
“We’re fine,” Zyner replied, ruffling Tomas’s hair. “We got away.”
Rolf let out a sigh of relief. “But we have to keep moving. We need a plan.”
Lina nodded, her expression serious. “We can’t let them catch us again. We need to find a way to stop them.”
Zyner straightened, feeling the weight of their mission pressing down on him. “We will,” he said firmly. “Together.”
As they stood in the clearing, a sense of unity washed over them. They were more than friends; they were a team, and together they would fight for their freedom.
“Let’s get to work,” Zyner said, determination burning in his chest. “We’ll find a way to take them down.”
And with that, they set their sights on the future, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
