Chapter 54

CHAPTER 54
Their jaws dropped. They didn’t expect what I’ve said. But that’s the very best thing that I know that could benefit everyone. Not just me but every family who lost someone because of the alpha.
“The alpha killed Mom, Dad, and Felix. He killed more people from what we knew. He manipulates people. He’s using his power.”
“But you’re not a killer, Catherine!” That’s the first time Jay shouted at me. “Do not let your instrusive thoughts to ruin you. You can’t become this kind of person. I know you’re not like that.”
“Cath, as much as I want to kill that man. As much as I want to give him waht he deserves, I don’t want my only daughter to become a killer. You can’t hold a knife and just kill somebody. Please.”
“I talked to him last night.”
Spoons clattered on plates when I said that. Gelo almost choke himself as well. Maybe telling them the truth will make them understand my point more. I have to tell them this now. I know the alpha. He won’t stop getting what he wants until he gets it. He craves and he uses his power.
I told them everything that I did last night.
“Catherine…” Mom said as if she was scared for my safety. She thought the alpha would hurt me. On a second, she turned to rage. “Did he hurt you? If he ever touched or invalidate you, I’m going to kill him now!”
“He did not kill nor touch me. He wanted to have me and live with him. He told me the reason why he killed my lovedones. He wanted us to have a perfectly normal, father-and-daughter relationship, which I wouldn’t provide him no matter what happens. I’m threatened that he’s going to hurt somebody again if this doesn’t stop.”
“We don’t need to murder him. Revolution, that’s what we need. The alpha does everything because everyone is scared of him. No one has the courage to speak up. But if everyone who is wronged by alpha gather, then we’ll beuild a strong nation of people to kick him out of his power. It already happened before accoring to your grandparents. And if make it happen, justice would prevail.”
“But who’s going to believe us? Who will have a courage to join us?” Jay argued. He’s on the side to pick peace.
“I’m a local of this town. I’ve heard a lot of grueling stories about the alpha by pretending to be crazy. They won’t believe me if I’ll be the one to talk to them. In this case…” Mila glanced at me and Gelo. “The two of you should act up.”
“Why Gelo? Nana wouldn’t approve of putting her grandson in danger.”
“Of course she won’t. But if this is for a revolution, Nana would join as well.”
“But why? Nana wasn’t wronged by the alpha.”
Gelo spoke for the first time. “Pops was killed my alpha. Now I know! Nana told me stories about Pops but she also told me about a story of this villain who kills people. Nana told me of the injustice that happened to a man name Poppins, and I just realized she used that name to replace Pops’.”
Oh, God! All this time. Nana’s been wronged by the alpha as well. The sweetest grandmother I knew. I never thought of her suffering from that kind of maltreatment.
“Gelo’s right. Nana wanted to keep it a secret from her family. That her husband was killed in front of her by a group of wolves and the alphas. Gelo’s grandfather would’ve been the alpha of the pack. But the current alpha took advantage of his weakness and wronged him and his family.”
“I’m into this. Nana deserves justice. Catherine deserves justice. The town of Dusk and Dawn deserves justice!”
I grinned. “Then we all start to act up.”

“Revolution? What are you talking about, Catherine?” Gwen exclaimed. She almost choke on her water earlier. With all of the people that I have to talk to, I guess my friends are the first.
“It happened before. The alpha wronged a lot of people in this town. His system is sick. He must lose his power or else, he’ll do what he did before!”
“I’m in Catherine’s side. My sister was sexually abused by the alpha. My parents tried to argue about it but the alpha threatened to kill me. Gwen, I know you have something in your mind. The alpha wronged your family as well!”
Gwen pursed her lips. “They stole our family business. Our little store in town was a supermarket before. But they stole it. They said if we wouldn’t give it up, we’re out of the pack. That seems not so bad, but we all know that if the pack disown you, they’re going to kill you the next day. I wouldn’t forget how my dad turned from being a CEO into being an assistant. That alpha and his betas crave for power and I know I shouldn’t let it happen again. I’m into this plan and I know there are a few who also wants this. We’ll find more people for you as well, Catherine.”

We parted ways since we have different class schedules in the afternoon. Before I head to the pavilion where Gelo and I usually waits, I went to the bathroom to wash my hands.
“What are you planning to do?” I heard a voice from my back. I turned around and saw Glitter. Oh, God! Did she hear everything we’re talking about earlier? Is she going to tell his parents about it. “You’re planning a revolution, aren’t you?”
I didn’t speak. I don’t want to tell her directly about it even though she’s so right about that. I don’t want this plan to be ruined just because someone eavesdropped on us.
“I know you can talk. Why can’t you right now?”
“I…”
“If I’m right, I’m in.”
Huh? Why would a beta child would join a revolution against the alpha?
“I know you won’t believe me so I’d tell you the truth. I don’t know why I trust you but… My mother doesn’t want the position she’s currently having. She’s forced to married my father, who abused her before. She’s being treated as a sacrifice to let the alpha’s favorite beta to satisfy his lust on my mother. My mother cries every night. And I can’t let that happen forever. I want this inequality to stop. I’m in.” She handed me a card. It wasn’t a business card but it has her cellphone number. “Call me when it’s going to happen.”
“How about your friends? The other beta children.”
“They weren’t my friends. I don’t have any friend except for my Mom.”
And I can relate to that.

I was on my way home. Gelo texted me that I should go home early instead of waiting for him. The school feels silent when I left. There were fewer students around. What is going on?
On my way, I saw slumps of people gathered in front of ours and Nana’s house. I can’t count them? Fifty? A hundred? Two-hundred? Five-hundred? What’s fucking wrong? I’ve been staying in this town in months yet I haven’t seen this mass of people gathering.
Then I saw Gelo pushing himself in the middle of the crowd. Some let him pass and some were busy chattering with each other. When he’s already facing me, I spoke, “What is the meaning of this?”
“Here are our buddies. They’re joining the revolution.”
Oh. My. God. I did not expect to gather a lot of people in out first day and it already seemed enough.
“The alpha killed my dad!”
“The alpha broke our television.”
“The alpha burned my book collection.” Now I hate that alpha so much.
“The alpha demolished our house.”
There are more stories that mixed in the crowd. I feel enraged on how evil the man who formed my genetics. And from these many people, I knew that this process is going to be tiring, but at least in the end, we’re winning.
I promise Mom, Dad, and Felix that we’re going to win this fight.
The dawn won’t fall wrong this time.
