Chapter 60

Chapter 60
As the sun falls into the horizon, the people, or should I say the werewolves, of the town of Dusk and Dawn starts to gather at our place. Tonight the alpha’s madness will end. Tonight, everything will be more normal and free. No more threats and darkness. Only good, light, and life.
“We’ll become a victor,” Jay told me while he was in the process of wearing the protective gear Nana personally made for him and Mom. They were the only humans to fight. Heroes, I believe. “It felt like I’m going in a fantasy war with these yet I have a small knife instead of a sword.”
“It’s sharp though,” I said, trying the knife on my skin. A little more pressure and it will cut my skin. Nana told them to their brains or the heart. This knife will surely pierce through those body parts. “I’m scared.”
“On what aspect?”
“To fail. I have planned this. I have committed to this. The scary news is that it is really gonna happen.”
Jay faced me and touched my face using his palms. “Darkness won’t end if the light won’t fight. The alpha won’t end if you didn’t mastermind everything about this matter. People won’t join us if the alpha wasn’t a wicked fucked up person who will kill if he doesn’t get what he want. Felix, Mom, and Dad would’ve been here if not for what he did.”
“This is for them. For all of those who died. For those innocents that lost. I dedicate this to them.”
Jay and I starts to act faster when Mom told us there were a lot of people outside. Men, women, people in their fifties, and some are around my age. Gelo told me Sage and Skip are going to be here as well. It’s really gonna happen!
After I placed my water bottle inside my satchel, I came out and saw the crowd. The crowd with light in their eyes. The crowd all wanted to end the darkness in this town. They were a lot. Hundreds? I don’t know. I recognized some faces. Some in our schools, towns, and even the barista at the coffee shop. I can’t believe I gathered this amount of crowd.
“We gathered tonight not because we only wanted to. We have something to fight. To prove!” Mom screamed. I could see a fearless leader in her. Someone who wouldn’t back out. “Years ago, he abused me. I got pregnant and only met my daughter eighteen years after. He killed my parents and ruined my life. For years, I pretend to be crazy. Just to live. Just to exist. Because I know a day like this will come. A day where he ends.”
Mom glanced at me, a signal that it was my turn to speak. Looking back at the person I was a few months ago, I didn’t expect to finally have the courage to speak in front of a huge audience. But I have to as I represent every victim of the man I share blood to.
“I did not expect all of you to come here tonight. I also did not expect he has this much of victims. Innocents who died. Innocents whose life turned upside down because of the madness, the doom he turned us into. Together, we tonight. Tonight, we face all our fears. As the town of Dusk and Dawn rises, this hell-like town will turn Wonderland once again.”
A few days after I arrived in this place, Nana told me stories that made me believe this place is a wonderland. Nana told me how great this place is, and how I can enjoy things. I was grieving at that time so I didn’t notice that she was telling me the history of this town. The town without the tyranny of the alpha. The town of peace.
We positioned me, Mom, and Gelo in front of everybody. Some of the women held signs, while the men were ready to attack if something happens. As the improvised drummers in the back starts to pluck, we paced ourselves into freedom.
We trudged, walked, and jogged around the town. Most of the lights in the houses were killed. It’s between these two things: They don’t want to be affected by what we’re doing or they are part of us.
My heart throbbed after five minutes. I am uncertain of what might happen. I am unsure of how much blood and tears we’ll be shedding tonight. What matters is that it will end tonight and everything will be fine again.
Until someone shrieked out of pain a few blocks behind me. Everyone startled. A woman’s neck was bitten, and blood rushed like a river. I saw someone. A man. A man in black, who ran away from us. A man who pretended to be part of us. The alpha knew our plan the whole time.
I grit my teeth and shifted into my wolf form. With this wolf body, I can finally feel more, hear more, and even felt stronger. I growled as I sensed him, running through the crowds at the back. I jumped, lifting my whole body into the air, passing through every person who covered themselves, thinking I might fall on them.
But I fell at the right place and at the right time. Just as the man who gushed the woman’s throat almost escapes. I thrashed on him and he fell to the floor. I scratched his chest and pressured my paws on his face. When I felt he won’t be able to run away from me, I turned back to my human form.
The innocent little girl who grew up in all of the world’s circumstances.
Control. That’s the thing I have to keep in mind in using this power. Too much power kills control. And a loss of control kills that power.
“Who are you?” I screamed at his face. There’s no way I can calm myself down. This man hurt someone and pretended he was part of us when he was not. He didn’t answer, only smiled at me so I kicked his face. “You’re part of his troops. The ones he fooled.”
Suddenly, the man turns scared, brooding over the truth. “I was just asked to go here and pretend so I could ruin your plans. I don’t intend to kill. I don’t intend to hurt anybody!”
“But you…” I glanced at Stacy and asked how the woman was doing. She only shakes her head. We lost one in less than an hour. “You killed her!”
I kicked his face again, so hard he coughed blood. “You took a life and there’s no way for you to pay for it except for your…”
I was about to his head with a sword when Nana slapped me hard. “Control. You lost control. You won’t kill this guy. You’re not your father, Catherine!”
I breathed in and out. I almost lost control a few minutes into this mission. I let go of him and told some men to take care of him, maybe imprison him. We’ll discuss that later.
“The alpha sent him to distract you, Catherine. So you could lose control of your power and kill him,” Nana said. “Now! Focus on our goal. Focus on the person that we have to end. Not his troops. Not anyone who doesn’t matter. Focus on what matters.”
“Catherine! Cath!” Aki rushed towards us and shakes my whole body. He gasped for air as if he ran for miles. I raised a brow on him. “Beta children and betas. They are in the front.”
My jaw dropped for a second before I throttled in front. Nana shouted about controlling my anger and power one last time. When I passed through the crowd of people, I confirmed Aki’s right. Beta children.
Marvel, Railey, Glitter, their mom and their dads, and others. They are all here, ready to protect the alpha.
I tapped Gelo’s shoulder, a signal for him to prepare. This is just the second stage of this night. They are strong, but they’re outnumbered. If we work together, we can beat them.
“We are not here to fight,” Marvel said in the most calming way I never thought he could.
“When why are you showing up? Are you here to stop us?” Mom asked.
“We are also victims,” Glitter said, then she goes to explaining the sexual abuse their mothers experienced on the alpha. “Also, our fathers, including Marvel were his punching bags when he was mad. We’re done with this inequality. We’re done being thrashed, being his assistant. We’re done being feared by innocent people we want to befriend.”
“In short, we’re here for an alliance. Catherine, we have one goal. Just like you, we believe this is the only way we could,” one of the betas told me.
I leaned closer to them and hugged them one by one, especially the women and the mothers who suffered the same as my mother. Also Marvel, the one who almost punched me. Now I understand why he’s too violent at such young age. Violence became a part of his early life.
Now we’re one. Now we’re both forming the light that wants to end the alpha, the evil creature. Former enemies are now allied. I’ll get back the wonderland Nana had told me and I’ll bring justice to those we lost.
