Chapter 13: The Training Begins

The following days were a whirlwind of preparation. Under Magnus’s watchful eye, Natalia and her brothers began training, honing their skills in both combat and magic. The Delacroix estate transformed into a hub of activity, the tension palpable as they prepared for the inevitable clash with the Ashbournes.
Maximilian joined them in their training, his presence a constant reminder of the bond they were forging. Together, they practiced spells and combat techniques, each session pushing Natalia closer to unlocking the true potential of her abilities.
“Focus your energy,” Maximilian instructed one afternoon, as they stood in the courtyard. “Feel the magic within you and direct it outward.”
Natalia closed her eyes, concentrating on the warmth that radiated from her core. As she visualized the energy flowing through her veins, she could almost see the faint shimmer of magic taking form.
“Good,” Maximilian encouraged. “Now try to manifest it into something tangible.”
With a deep breath, Natalia extended her hands, imagining a swirling vortex of energy gathering at her fingertips. The air crackled with power as she opened her eyes, witnessing the spark of light that danced between her palms.
“Excellent!” Maximilian praised, a smile breaking through his usually stoic demeanor. “You’re getting stronger every day.”
---
But despite the encouragement, doubts still lingered in Natalia’s mind. She felt the weight of responsibility resting heavily on her shoulders. What if she couldn’t live up to everyone’s expectations? What if her powers weren’t enough to protect her family?
During one training session, after struggling to maintain control over a particularly complex spell, she threw her hands up in frustration. “I’m trying, but it’s just so hard! I don’t know if I can do this!”
Maximilian stepped closer, his red eyes locking onto hers. “You’re stronger than you think, Natalia. It’s okay to feel overwhelmed. Remember, every great warrior has faced doubt. What matters is how you rise above it.”
His words resonated deeply with her, and she took a moment to breathe. “You’re right. I can’t let fear hold me back.”
“Exactly,” he said, his voice softening. “We’re all in this together. Just keep pushing yourself. I believe in you.”
---
As the days turned into weeks, Natalia continued to improve. She discovered not only the ability to harness her magic but also a newfound agility in combat. Each sparring session with her brothers helped her develop her skills, while Maximilian’s guidance gave her confidence.
One evening, as they concluded their training, Magnus summoned the family to the grand hall. The atmosphere was charged with anticipation, the flickering candlelight casting shadows on the walls.
“Everyone,” Magnus began, his voice steady. “We have received word from the Sinclair Dukedom. They have agreed to meet with us and discuss forming an alliance against the Ashbournes.”
A cheer erupted from the family, and Natalia felt a surge of hope. “This is it,” she thought, determination flooding her veins. “We’re one step closer to securing our future.”
“We’ll meet with them tomorrow evening,” Magnus continued. “Prepare yourselves; this alliance could change the course of our family’s fate.”
---
As the family dispersed, Natalia found herself standing in the hallway, lost in thought. She was excited yet anxious about the upcoming meeting. Would the Sinclairs truly support them? And what of Cassandra and Nicholas? They wouldn’t sit idle while the Delacroix family gained allies.
Maximilian approached, sensing her unease. “Are you ready for tomorrow?” he asked, his tone gentle.
“I’m trying to be,” she admitted, looking up at him. “But I can’t shake this feeling of impending doom. What if they reject us?”
“Then we’ll adapt,” he replied confidently. “But I don’t believe they will. The Sinclairs understand the Ashbournes’ threat as well as we do.”
Natalia smiled at his unwavering support. “Thank you, Maximilian. You always know how to calm my nerves.”
“Just remember, you’re not alone in this,” he said, his gaze steady. “We fight together.”
---
That night, as Natalia lay in bed, she reflected on how far she had come. She had transformed from a weak, abandoned girl into a powerful force ready to confront her family’s enemies. The awakening of her magic had changed everything, igniting a fire within her that she never knew existed.
But deep down, she knew the road ahead would not be easy. The Ashbournes were relentless, and with Cassandra’s obsession growing, she felt the danger closing in.
As sleep began to claim her, a single thought echoed in her mind: I will protect my family, no matter the cost.
