Chapter 22 STRONGEST
Zero's POV
I was panting from the fight with Kaizel and stayed on my feet because the brawl wasn’t over yet.
I could still see many students throwing punches and trading blows, with several already down and their faces bruised.
My eyes searched for Miyuki and Kizaki, and I spotted Kizaki throwing punches at the second-years in front of him.
But I noticed a crowd of students gathered in one area of the ground floor near our building.
I walked over and caught sight of Miyuki, who was being ganged up on by several second-years, but I could tell she was holding her own despite their numbers.
I hurried over, and when I got close, I quickly grabbed the neck of a second-year from behind and kicked the back of his left knee with my right foot to bring him down, then I kicked his back with my left foot.
The noise drew the attention of the second-years, who turned to look at me. I grinned at them as they charged toward me all at once.
I braced myself, quickly kicking one second-year in the stomach on my left to keep him away, then I ducked just in time to avoid a punch from another coming in from the right. I loaded up a left jab aimed at his chin.
It connected, but I didn’t see him fall, so I quickly grabbed his head with both hands and delivered a strong knee strike with my right leg, then I followed up with a powerful left hook to knock him down for good.
I glanced at the second-year I had kicked earlier who was now headed toward me, and I could see the anger in his eyes.
But then someone grabbed the back of his collar and yanked him backward, forcing him to the ground.
It was Miyuki who had done that, and she was still battling despite being outnumbered.
I couldn’t let my friends get beaten, so I moved toward her side and joined in the fray.
I pulled another second-year toward me and started hammering punches into his face. I had him in a headlock with my right arm, throwing left jabs until he stopped fighting back, at which point I released him to let him fall to the ground.
The brawl continued, and despite the second-years’ numbers, we were holding our own thanks to the training my friends and I had gone through.
It didn’t take long for Miyuki and me to take down the second-years we were fighting. We could see fewer opponents left, with many already down and unable to continue.
My gaze caught Kizaki, who was still fighting fiercely despite his body’s desire to give in, taking deep breaths from exhaustion.
I noticed a second-year approaching him with a two-by-four from his left side.
I sprinted toward him even though he was a few meters away.
I shouted loudly, "Behind you, Kizaki!"
Slowly, he turned and saw the second-year about to swing the two-by-four(piece of wood) at him, but he moved quickly, blocking the hit with his left hand just before it connected with his head.
He loaded up a punch with his right hand and hit the second-year hard in the face just as I reached him, leaping up to kick him in the side of the head with my left foot, sending him crashing to the ground.
I approached Kizaki and asked, "Can you keep going?" He was breathing heavily and still had two second-years in front of him.
He replied, "I can still fight. I’ll take the right; you handle the left." He looked at me seriously.
I nodded and faced the two second-years, one of whom looked familiar, like I had faced him before.
The second-year said, "It’s you again, Zero!" sounding furious.
I recalled that this was the second-year who bumped into me on the way down from the second floor.
I smirked at him and said, "I’m going to crush you now." Kizaki and I charged at him together.
I started with a left punch to his mouth, hitting him hard enough to split his lip.
I followed it up with a right punch to his stomach and then quickly grabbed his head, smashing it into my forehead to make his nose bleed.
But that wasn’t enough to take him down; he swiftly kicked me in the stomach, making me step back while nursing the pain, glaring at him.
He charged at me, and I readied a left kick but he ducked just in time to avoid it.
Then he delivered a powerful left punch to my jaw, causing me to lose my balance from the impact.
I felt several parts of my body start to ache more, and my movements slowed due to exhaustion.
This was bad...
I needed to finish this quickly; I might lose consciousness again.
I forced myself to stand straight, raising both fists and clearing my mind of distractions, relying on my instincts for fighting.
He moved closer, staring me down for his next move. I saw his right shoulder shift, and I quickly stepped back, expecting a punch from the right.
He threw the punch, and I rushed at him, winding up my right fist and preparing my left.
I threw a strong right punch aimed at his face, but it was too slow, and he easily dodged to the right, so I quickly jabbed my left fist upward from below.
He didn’t see it coming since I had feinted with my right fist as a trap.
My punch connected with his right jaw, almost knocking his head off his neck. I then prepared a left kick to take him down.
I released my left kick to follow up my punch, but it only struck his neck, sending him crashing to the ground.
I couldn’t retract my foot from the air because my right knee was shaking, and I collapsed to the ground from exhaustion, staring up at the sky under the sunlight.
