Her father's apology

JAMIE'S POV
Staring at my daughter as she cried bitterly before me, I knew greatly how much I've messed things up. She's my daughter too. I should have treated her differently.
However, because she acts exactly in the manner Harriet does, it's almost impossible to think she could be different.
"Imogen, I'm sorry." I said slowly and she stared through her tears at me. "I know you're different. Although, I can't tell you the reason I and your Mom are like this. What she did has long bore a deep hole in my heart even before you and Ashton were born. But notwithstanding, I shouldn't treat you that way. You're right, you're Imogen my precious daughter. You're NOT your mother. I really hope you can forgive me."
   "Dad..." Imogen sobbed.
IMOGEN’S POV
I can’t believe the way I’m feeling at this moment. Initially, I’ve always envisioned the moment Dad would one day apologize to me for all the previous mistreatments he’s shown towards me. And finally, that moment’s here.
Earlier, when I changed my mind from visiting mother’s doctor and coming here, I expected that Dad was going to apologize and had prepared myself for it somehow.
I’m still quite pissed at him for easily accepting Scarlett into his life while being indifferent to me.  But now that he apologized, I feel funny.  Of course, I’d love to reconcile with Dad today too. However, when I think about the new elder sister, a lot of thoughts run through my mind.
What if he finally abandons us all because of his legitimate child? What if mother is suffering emotionally because of her? Would I just sit back and accept her as my sister while she takes everything I adore from me? No. I can’t risk that.
“Imogen, please say something.” I heard Dad said after a while. I sniffed and raised my gaze to meet his. “I’m really sorry dear. I'd be good to you from now on.” He reached out his hand to my face and wiped my tears with his thumb.
“D-dad.” I sobbed. “I...I under-understand. Let’s not fight again.” I said in between sobs and I saw how his expression brightened.
“That’s right. That’s it. I knew you would understand.” Dad excitedly said as he gently patted my hand in his. I managed a smile at him.
I took a sip from my tea cup after a brief moment.
“Thanks for today Dad, I should head back now."
“Uh, so soon? Wait a while, Ashton would be here soon."
“Ashton?” I raised my brows in surprise.
“Yes, Imogen. I have something to talk about with you two.” He said just as a thought occurred to me.
Does it have anything to do with what I heard mother and Ashton talking about the other day?
I had barely digested the information when I heard Ashton's voice from behind me.
“Father… oh? You’re here too, Imogen.”
Turning around, I saw my brother walked towards us. I glanced at Dad and he nodded smilingly at me.
“Hey Ash, I didn’t know you were coming over too.” I said, while secretly trying to erase any signs of tears left in my eyes with my hands.
“Oh, I just got a call that father wants me to meet him here.” Ashton said as he glanced between Dad and myself.
“That’s right. Quickly, join us Ashton.” Dad ushered him to the empty seat beside mine. ”There’s a lot to talk about.” He smiled.

NARRATIVE
Moments after Ashton had joined them, Jamie Grey cleared his throat as he looked between his twin children, subconsciously noticing the slight similarities in their facial features.
They were his children after all, even though their mother ruined his life. It had nothing to do with the kids. He just didn't want Imogen to end up like Harriet__since she seems to take after her a lot.
It wouldn't be too late for him to embrace Imogen and help her become a better person. He could make his children all get along well.
'Somehow, I can make this work...' Jamie thought.
They must have been surprised as well, when he had introduced Scarlett to them without a warning, as their elder sister. But what was he to do? He also found out from Aimee, his late wife's friend, that his daughter survived.
"Father," Ashton called, on noticing his father's unusual silence. It really wasn't like him to call them out in this manner.
Jamie Grey's train of thoughts was broken when he heard his son called him.
"You said you wanted to talk about something important." Ashton said as he gently returned his tea cup to the table. He could sense the familiar tension between his sister and father once again and felt a strong urge to sigh but he suppressed it.
"Ah... yes." Jamie Grey managed a smile. "Ashton how's business been so far? Any news from Chairman Kyle since his last visit at the company?"
He knew his question wasn't necessary because he was also at that meeting when the young Chairman had insisted that a new CEO be assigned at JP's Enterprise before he would consider partnering with them in the upcoming project.
Ashton knew this too, as his father's only son and as the general manager of JP's Enterprise. But he answered his question not withstanding.
"Business is fine, as usual. Chairman Kwan hasn't changed his mind since our last discussion."
"I see." Jamie nodded his head thoughtfully.
Imogen briefly wondered what the discussion with her crush, KK, had been. But because she wasn't in a great mood at this moment, she couldn't be bothered to ask her father. She would ask Ashton later.
"I know I've not been the best to you both of late." Jamie cleared his throat once more. "My decisions of recent must have been sudden and stunning as well." He continued as he watched them closely.
Ashton shifted uncomfortably in his seat and Imogen barely sighed. She could almost guess what their father wants to talk about.
