Chapter 10
3rd Person Pov
Failed!
Failed!
Failed!
Despite her numerous attempts, she was still unsuccessful. It had been three years since she had attempted to build her time machine, but she had failed numerous times. She continued to look for and research what could go wrong until she discovered what was wrong, but it would take some time.
Luan is about to return, but the time machine is still unfinished. She needs it finished so she may give him the freedom he desires before he returns home, but it appears that she will not be able to do so. Even though he's back, she'll keep working on it.
She sighed, her gaze falling on her completed design. She looked at it closely to see if there was anything wrong with it. She'll try again if this doesn't work out.
She was standing with both hands on the side of her desk, staring down at the paper on the table.
She continued to examine her design while she tapped her finger on the table. She was hoping that this would not be a failure.
Her attention was drawn to her laboratory door by a knock. Luan's assistant spoke and her gaze was drawn to the door.
“Ms. Knox, sir Luan will arrive in 10 minutes, and all staff must go to the first floor and greet him at the entrance door," his assistant said fastly and left to call the others.
She was called Ms. Knox because no one knew that they were married. Luan never wore his wedding ring and only their family and friends knew about the wedding.
She let out a sigh and rolled up the paper with her design on it. She put it in a container with some of her other papers.
She walked out the room and proceeded to the first floor. She stood up near the entrance door together with the other staff.
Luan walked into the building and looked around and spotted Solstice. When he glanced at her, he noticed that she looked a bit mature now. He realized she wasn't smiling, her face was blank, and she wasn't looking at him either.
Solstice was trying to restrain herself from expressing her feelings. Her father taught her the importance of becoming a professional and refraining from bringing her emotions or feelings to work. She's been working on not being so showy with her emotions. For years, she adapted how to live with pain. Even though she was used to the pain, she still cries when it becomes unbearable.
"Good morning everyone," Luan said in a powerful tone.
“Good morning sir! “ everyone greeted him and lowered their heads.
"I'm pleased to learn that this company's performance was good, even though I'm not here to manage the company," he stated.
"We definitely tried our best to maintain the company's good reputation, sir," Kiara said flirtatiously.
Kiara was the company's newest employee. She liked flirting with any boy, and she was now flirting with Luan.
Solstice gave Kiara a death glare.
Luan turned his head to look at Solstice,he saw her glaring at Kiara and he smirked, thinking that Solstice was jealous.
“Go back to your works now, “ he commanded.
Everyone went back to their work.
As Solstice began to walk, she looked down at her wristwatch. It was only her way of avoiding Luan's gaze.
While she was walking, Luan placed a hand on her shoulder to stop her.
“Hey, “Luan looked down at her.
"Yes sir?" she asked as she turned around and looked up at him.
She was attempting to maintain a professional demeanor in front of him. She spoke in a formal tone and stood appropriately.
"How are you doing?"he inquired gently, as if he was concerned. He stroked her shoulder with his thumb after he placed his hand on her shoulder. He yearned for his wife, but he refused to admit it.
As Luan stroked Solstice's shoulder, she gulped, her heart pounded. It was the first time he had asked her that question with a caring tone. She replied, "I'm fine.”
"I have to go back now, sir," she said as she walked back to her lab.
He smiled as he watched Solstice fade away from his sight. Seeing the girl who adored him made him feel slightly better.
He slowly realised that he had feelings for Solstice while he was abroad in another country.
They talked on the phone but only in text, which for him was not enough. At those moments, he was still confused about his feelings.
He now knew what he truly felt for his wife, but still didn't know how to tell her or how to express it. He didn't want her to know about his feelings. He was afraid that if he told her his feelings, there would be no use any more. He knew that he was too late to love her.
He sighed as he made his way to his office. He inhaled deeply, and it felt as if all of the memories from his office had returned to him.
Flashback...
"Darling, have a look at what I prepared for you for lunch! Please eat this, it's the only food I can prepare without being burned, vegetable salad! " Solstice exclaimed as she placed the food on his table.
"I'm not eating Ms. Knox," he responded, his gaze remaining fixed on his work.
“But you need to eat... “ she mumbled and slowly poked his shoulder. “You must eat darling, you should not skip meals . “
Solstice was startled by the sound of a loud bang from in front of her, it was Luan who irritably smashed his hand on the table. As Solstice watched his pale hands turn red, it was like she could feel the stinging pain in his palm.
“D-does your ha—”she said but got interrupted by Luan.
Luan pointed at his door, “get the fuck out of this office right now! I don't fucking need your food, or anything. Actually,I don't fucking need you" he yelled, throwing the salad Solstice made for him to the floor.
Solstice trembled and rushed to gather the thrown food on the floor. She ran out of his office crying after gathering the food and placing it back in the container.
—
She knocked on the glass door and pushed it open, peeking inside and smiling at Luan.
"What do you want?" Luan inquired, sighing. He shifted his attention away from his files and onto Solstice.
Solstice looked at him with a tiny little hope in her eyes,“uhm can I go home with you? It's raining and it'll be hard for me to find a—”
Luan interrupted her, "no, I have somewhere to go. Go home by yourself. You may go out now"
He lied. He had nowhere to go. He simply does not want to be with her and prefers to see her suffer.
“Ohh, okay, thank you, sorry for disturbing you“ she nodded her head and smiled at him before closing the door.
End of flashback...
He sighed, remembering everything he did to her.
He regretted everything.Download Novelah App
