Chapter 8
3rd Person Pov
Solstice had been distancing herself from Luan for days. She no longer texts him, she no longer wakes up to wish him a good morning, she no longer waits for him to get home and ask him for a hug, and she no longer speaks to him unless it is absolutely necessary.
For the past few days, Luan had been empty as well. Something always seemed to be lacking to him. He hasn't got the opportunity to explain the rumours about him and Claire.
Every time she avoided him, he felt something he didn't know.
He wasn't aware that he was now seeking for her care.
He didn't realize that he was seeking for her love.
He didn't realize he was longing for her attention.
He was totally clueless about what he truly felt.
Luan instructed his assistant to call Solstice and inform her that they needed to meet in his office to discuss something serious. This was the day that he was going to tell her everything. He's not sure why he's always felt obliged to explain this to her.
Solstice got out of her seat. She was attempting to hide the happiness she was about to have as she was about to see him. She doesn't want him to know how much she still cares for him.
She tried to ignore him to see if he cared about her as well and would take action, but she was wrong, he did nothing and simply let her be. It was obvious to her that he didn't care for her or love her. She was well aware that he despises her. All she knew was that he was trying to bring up that rumor. Solstice isn't interested in hearing about it because, true or not, nothing would change.
She let out a sigh and walked into his office. She has no idea why he called her. There was no reason for him to call her.
She knocked on his door and lightly opened it. "Excuse me, sir, may I enter?" "She requested permission to enter his office.
He motioned her to come in and sit in front of him, saying, "Yes, you may come in and please sit in front of me."
She walked in and sat in the chair in front of his table. She kept her gaze fixed on him, attempting not to react. If she looked at him, she would usually blush or smile.
"Since you haven't been listening to me for the past several days," Luan said, gripping both of his hands and placed them on the table.
"I simply wanted to let you know that the rumor isn't true," Luan confirmed, causing Solstice to smile.
"Oh, really? " Solstice looked at Luan with a little smile on her face.
As he saw her smile again, Luan's lip curved into a little smile. For some reason, he felt relieved and a little happier.
'For the time being, I'll take it easy on her.' Luan thought to himself, 'she's so pitiful.'
"O-oh and, um…Our anniversary is near. I will prepare something. If you want, we can um…date. "she looked at him with eyes full of hope—hope that he would go on a date with her.
"Sure," he said, his face emotionless. No excitement or happiness can be seen as if he agreed because he didn't have any choice.
'Desperate...' he looked at her, disgusted.
Her eyes glowed with happiness, and she dashed over to him, holding him tightly. He just allowed her to hug him, which made her happy.
'Tsk, I don't like this hug, too tight ' Luan thought.
"I guess that hug was enough now," Luan said as he gently moved Solstice away and gave her a nice but fake smile.
"S-sorry, darling, I got carried away," she said shyly as her face flushed.
'Darling.. Can't she just stop calling me that? ' he thought to himself
“Uhm I'll go now... “she mumbled as she ran out of his office.
He looked at Solstice as she ran out of his office. He saw how excited and happy she was.
He received a call while working on his documents. "Hello," he said after answering the call.
"Hello sir, the construction for the inventor's structure has begun, and we need you to stay here so you can supervise this sir and ensure no mistakes are made," a voice on the phone said.
"I'll go there tomorrow, and I'll stay there for years so that after the building is finished, I can manage everything there till one of my employees can handle it without me," he added, smiling as he knew he'd be gone from Solstice for a long time.
"Noted sir, I'll get you a room to stay right away so you can rest when you get here," a voice stated and Luan hung up the phone and set the phone on his desk.
He rose up and walked out of his office, clapping his hands together loudly to get everyone's attention.
“Everyone, please stop working and face me. I have an important announcement, “Luan said, with a wide smile on his face.
Everyone's gaze was drawn to Luan. They stared at him, unsure of what significant announcement he was going to announce.
"I'll be gone for years because I have to supervise our new building in another country," he stated, "and I'll have my friends check in on you guys here from time to time."
He can't wait to get out of here in this place. He's looking forward to getting away from Solstice.
While he was overjoyed, Solstice felt sad because he was going to leave her. She felt a deep sadness that she couldn't bear because the person she loved was about to leave her.
With a smile on her face, she turned to face him. She was fighting back her tears.
He will always leave her, and she knew that.
He was happy while her, she was suffering.
-tomorrow morning-
Luan was getting ready now; he gathered all of his belongings and loaded them into his car. Solstice approached him carefully, her fingers fumbling, tears welling up in her eyes.
"Are you serious about leaving?" How about our wedding anniversary? Do you plan to return home? " Solstice asked and glanced at him with a teary eyes. Tears were ready to flow from her eyes at any moment.
Luan stared at her and said bitterly, "My business was lot more important than the wedding that I never wanted to happen —the audacity of calling this house a home—this seems to be the hell for me."
His words were cold, and his eyes were filled with rage.
"O-okay, but if something happens... I will be here for you at all times. You're welcome to return to me at any time. "As tears streamed down her cheeks, she grasped his hand, kissing it.
She is powerless to prevent him from leaving.
"If you've already found someone to love, please let me know, okay?“she smiled at him as she uttered those painful words.
It hurt her to say those words because it felt like she was giving her own husband to other girls.
"If that happens, there's no need to tell you,I'll file an annulment immediately," he said sternly to her before leaving her.
A tear began to fall from her eyes as she watched her husband walk away from her. He was leaving her, and she would be lonely once again. Her tears continued to fall as though they were a cascade of water.
She was in excruciating pain, and her heart was hurting as a result. "Don't leave me please," her mind screamed over and over.
“Don't leave me... “ she mumbled, wiping her tears.
Luan did not turn around and continued on his way to his car. He received a phone call from his phone as he was getting into his car.
“Hello who's this? “ he asked after answering the call without even looking at the name.
“Grayson, Grayson Knox, father of Solstice, “ the caller said.
“Oh yes, Mr. Knox, why did you call?“ Luan asked as he started the engine and began to drive to the airport.
“I heard you're leaving. The news spread so quickly. Can I ask you a favor? “ Grayson asked to Luan.
“Sure what is it? “
“Can you keep in contact with Solstice while you're in another country? And in return, when you come home, months after you come home, I give you permission to file an annulment with her. ”
