Chapter 76 Can't Take It Anymore
*Kiara*
I sat down on the stool opposite the round dressing in my room, staring into space and thinking back to Alexander and I chitchatted yesterday. Sucking in a deep breath, I find it very difficult to understand him now, I thought Amelia said he loves me and would never get married to another woman but only me. Then was he acting like that yesterday? He was not even ready to listen to my part of the story. Isn't he interested to know how Henry had saved me and his child? He's just an asshole. Really. He claims to love me, but wouldn't fight for his love? Is he going to sit back and watch me get married to Henry? “Argh!” I let out a deep groan. I'm losing my mind already. Knock! Knock! Knowing who the person could be, I rose to my feet and asked him to come in, ambling toward the bed and sitting on it. “Good morning, Kiara” he greeted softly, wearing an apologetic expression. I scoffed inwardly. The deed has been done,, so I don't feel there's any need for him to be remorseful. My son might be a bastard in his eyes but thank goodness he's not, and as a matter of fact, my son knows his father is now.
“Are you still angry?” I stood up, shook my head, and smiled softly at him. “It's okay, Henry. I'm sorry for yelling at you also” my words seemed to light up his mood. Smiling brightly, he moved closer to where I was and reached out to hold my hands. “Thanks, babe, and I promise such will never repeat itself. Aiden is my son” he beamed, having a broad smile all over his face. I managed to squeeze out a smile, nodding my head slowly. “So, you're ready for work?” he asked keenly, checking me out from bottom to up. “Yes, Henry” he let go of one of my hands and gently reached out and stroke a wisp of my hair and tossed it behind my ear, “There will be a party here in the evening, Kiara, and I want you to get back from work as early as you can, so you would be prepared ahead for it” I didn't reply immediately, thinking in my mind what the occasion could be. “Is there any special occasion?” I quizzed, his lips twisted in a smile as he replied, “Not really. I just feel like I haven't introduced you to everybody around me” my heart missed out a bit immediately, I lowered my gaze and then slowly withdraw my hand from his hold. Turning my back against him, I went to sit back on the bed, “Is there any need for that? You already introduced me to more than enough people, Henry” I told him calmly, putting on my heels already. He chuckled as he came to sit beside me on the bed and began to toy with my hair, “You don't have to be nervous, Kiara, It's just a little party and I bet you're going to love it” I released a deep sigh I didn't even realize I was holding and then turned my head to look at his face. He smiled at me with a charming gaze. I must confess that Henry was not as attractive as Alexander, he was still a diamond among ordinary people. “Oh, lest I forget again. How's it going? Have you been able to figure out where he is now?” he asked curiously, peering into my eyes? I shook my head slowly, getting on my feet. “No, Henry, I don't think he's in the country presently” I expressed, balling my hands into a fist. “And you still don't want me to intervene? I promise you, Kiara, the dunderhead will be provided the moment you give me the go-ahead” he enunciated strongly. I turned around to see him on his feet too with a murderous expression, I smiled,
“You know, I appreciate all the assistance you've always rendered, Henry. From the beginning, you brought me to your house, and you've been taking very good care of me and my son, without getting tired of us” my eyes gradually filled with tears, but I kept them from falling. His face slowly changed from anger to calm as he moved closer, “Let me do this, Henry, I want to catch him myself even if he's hiding beneath the ground” the tears were now streaming down voluntarily. “Moreover, he can't be hiding, I'm certain he's not aware of my presence yet” Henry puffed out a breath in surrender, seeing how determined I was. Slowly, he pulled me into his chest with his slender arms. “Good luck, babe. But please — do not hesitate to tell me if anything goes wrong” I nodded in his chest, and with that, he pressed his lips on my hair.
The moment I set my foot into the living room, with the agents in tow. I saw Aiden's nanny rushing down the stairs, anxiously. She looked as if she was pleased to see me at that moment. “Welcome back, ma'am” she greeted with a slight bow, “Yeah, is there a problem? Where's my son?” I asked her softly, staring down at her lowered head. “Ma'am, Aiden has been crying since when he came back from school, he…” I ran past her immediately, cutting off her unfinished sentence. I took the stairs in twos to his room, unlocked the door, and rushed in. There he was, sitting on the floor beside his bed and curled up like a soccer ball, with his head buried into his knees. “Aiden,” I called softly. He lifted his head to look at me and I felt my heart shattered into a million pieces immediately at how flushed his face was, as if on fire. Even a blind could tell he has been crying for a long time. I tossed my bag carelessly and rushed toward him, kicking off one of his toys in the process. I lifted him up in my chest, checking out his temperature, but his temperature was normal. “Tell me, baby, what happened to you? Why are you crying?” I asked worriedly, touching his face, forehead, and everywhere. “I want my daddy” he sobbed, more tears gushing out from his reddened eyes. My heart aches a lot in my chest and I could feel tears pooling in my eyes too. “Mommy, please ask daddy to come, I want to see him” I kept parting my lips but couldn't produce a single word, and the tears were now spilling out of my eyes.
“Please, mommy, please” he tugged on my blouse giddily. “Okay, son. Let me call him” I told him, not sure of what I just said. A bright smile appeared on his face immediately, “Thanks, mommy” I nodded, giving him my best smile. I put him down on the bed, walked over to where my bag was lying on the floor, and then picked it up and retrieved my cellphone from it. Grasping the phone in my hand, I looked over at Aiden on the bed, and I was a bit glad he was now playing with his toys. “I don't even have his contact” I mumbled, with my fingers hovering over the screen in conflict. Shortly, I turned toward Aiden and crouched before him, wearing a big smile. “Is he coming?” he asked with enthusiasm, blinking his eyes cutely. I nodded, “Yes, darling. I just sent him a text that you want to see him badly, and he promised to come soon” I told him cogently and his smile only grew wider, revealing a row of his white teeth. He jumped into my arms at once, “You're the best, mommy” A veil of despair descended over me, as I caress his back. 'I wish I can be the best for you, son'.
In the evening…
In the field, people were toasting and chatting with each other. Men were wrapped in business suits, while women were in the most beautiful make-up. I sucked in a deep, sharp breath, not understanding why I was feeling so anxious. “Whoa, is this my Kiara?” I raised my chin to see Henry. His strong frame was dressed in an immaculate business suit, his body exuded a strong manly presence and his aura screamed powerful and wealthy. “You're so pretty, babe. Remind me how I got lucky to have you” he extended his palm and caressed my cheek and for some tensed moment, our gazes locked. Squeezing out a forced smile, I withdrew my gaze, “Thanks, Henry” he nodded his head and came to stand beside me and then hooked his arm around mine, “Come, let me introduce you to some of my business partners that are here already” I twisted my lips and took a glance at his face, “I will have to get back inside after that. Aiden is running a slight fever” he stopped walking immediately and turned to me, looking worried, “Then you shouldn't be here. How's he now?” he asked. “He's asleep. I can't go in without meeting them, I know how much effort you've put into this” he smiled gently, “Thanks, babe”
I was heading back into the house after meeting his partners when I suddenly heard him call out my name from behind, I rolled my eyeballs, 'Who am I meeting again this time?' I turned around properly, and could feel my heart pounding strongly inside my chest. 'What? Am I dreaming now?' Ambling toward me, “Sorry, babe, but you need to meet this great man” Henry said, however, my gaze was already sweeping back and forth on his face. He was clad in a custom-made suit with smooth edges and no creases, which made him look rich and noble. Also, he looks like a Greek god, full of dignity and a powerful aura, making people obsessed with him at only a glance. “Alexander, meet Kiara, my soon-to-be wife. Kiara, meet Alexander, my new business partner and also a good friend” Henry introduced. My heart continued to pound, and it seems I couldn't control my own heart. He slowly reached over and stretched forth his hand for a handshake, having a lovely smile on his face. It took all the might in me to lift a hand and accepted the shake, but I felt the electrifying touch and I quickly removed my hand from his strong palm. “Permit me to say this, Mr. Torres, your wife is so beautiful. The light blue evening dress she's wearing makes her pink face look like a ripe peach, inviting others to take a bite” he praised, but a trace of sarcasm could be sensed in his voice. Henry laughed out loud for some seconds, “You're very funny, Alexander. Anyway, this is my wife and there's no room for others to take a bit, except if they are courting death” Henry said seriously, wrapping his arm around my shoulders. “Whoa, I'm so envious, Mr. Torres,” he pouted, lowering his gaze to my face now, putting away his smile and looking quite sharp. “I wouldn't mind doing that, Mr. Torres” he pronounced, his gaze still resting on my face. “Huh?” Wearing his smile again, “If I wasn't married,” he put in, and with that, he bowed slightly and then turned around.
The bright light and faint pearly lustre reflected on his face, he was having an elation smile on it. Seemingly, he was having great fun with those ladies surrounding him. There was a considerable distance between my table and his. “You're still here?” I looked up to see Henry sitting down, facing me. “Hmm… I'll just go in after I finished my drink,” I told him, and right after I said that, a peal of wild laughter came from his direction. I took my gaze to him and saw one of those ladies touching his hair down to his jaw. I swallowed hard over the lump of emotion lodging in my throat. “He's really having fun, isn't he?” Henry smiled, stood up, and walked away. Quickly, I carried my glass of wine and gulped it at once. I should have gone back inside when my mind had warned me to. Gazing in his direction, he accidentally made eye contact with me but to my utmost surprise, he looked away immediately, pretending not to have seen my gaze. Fuming steam, I rose to my feet abruptly and began to walk toward him. I can't take it anymore!Download Novelah App
