Chapter 77 Reeling in the Past
*Alexander*
“Mr. Andrew Alexander” called out the only voice I can never mistake for others. I looked up at her face, which had a gleam flashing across it. “Yes, that's me. Is there a problem?” I asked blandly as I continued to hold the hand of the lady sitting next to me. “I would like to see you for a moment” she pronounced sternly. “Yeah, sure. I'm listening, Mrs. Torres,” I told her with a bright smile, folding my hands across my chest and looking at her face with interest. I watched as her eyes dimmed with anger and the veins on her forehead became exposed, “Privately, Alexander. Now get up” she half yelled, looking so enraged. I opened my mouth in an 'o' shape then reluctantly got on my feet, straightening my collar which was not wrinkled at all. “Excuse me, miss” one of the two ladies who had been keeping my company since the moment I arrived here spoke up, standing up. “I don't know who you might be, but you can't just come here and start ordering him around” the lady blurted out, looking quite displeased. I opened my mouth to talk, I don't even know her name. “The last time I checked, you're not his wife” Kiara spelled out word by word, her expression was terrifying. “And you don't seem like you're his wife yourself. Maybe you're one of his sluts” she sneered relentlessly wearing a sardonic smile on her face. “You bastard…” Kiara made to charge toward her, but I quickly held her back. She had turned red as a beetroot, “Let me go, Alexander” she growled silently, wriggling in my clasp. “Come on now, you want to see me privately, don't you?” I reminded her in a good nature mood, curling up my lips. She was still glaring at the lady, but swiftly looked over at my face. She looked adorable during her little fit of rage. She pulled out of my hold at once, then turned around, striding away fast. Without sparing the girls one more glance, I followed in suit behind her.
Arriving at the poolside, she suddenly stopped walking and as if sensing I was right behind her, she spun around and sent a hard slap in my face, taking me aback, “You jerk! You couldn't even say a word back there, am I really a slut to you?” her voice quivered fiercely. My head was turned to the other side, and it took me several seconds before I was able to talk, “You're not my wife either” I told her seriously, looking back into her eyes which were already swimming in tears. Grabbing my collar tightly, “But I'm the mother of your child, aren't I?” her tone was full of aggressiveness as she peered into my face. “You swore that no other woman could ever replace me in your heart” she put in, almost yelling. Smiling bitterly, “Both the person who made the promise and who he made it to are no longer alive,” I said dryly, and her face dropped at once. I intended to remove her hands that were clasping my clothes, but she had held the back of my neck, dipped my head forward, and sealed my lips in a kiss. Her kiss set off a riot of reaction and emotion inside me. She made me feel alive and out of control. Wrapping my arms around her, I pulled her tightly into my chest as though she was going to run away, drowning into the kiss and ravishing her
completely. The kiss was quite overbearing, a lot could be interpreted from it. However, one thing was very obvious, our longing for each other. Slowly, we unlocked from the long, intense but passionate kiss. She rested her forehead against mine, framing my cheeks in her hands, “I missed you,” she muttered breathlessly. I looked into her face, feeling a crazy joy at the moment. I buried my head in her neck and greedily kisses her fragrant hair, neck, and earlobes. Holding her earlobe between my teeth and biting on it, she pushed my chest slightly, “Stop it now, someone might be watching us” she said, a hint of shyness flashing through her beautiful eyes. I felt a warm niggling sensation in my heart as I reached out and stroked a wisp of hair and tossed it behind an ear. Without leaving immediately, I stroked all the way along the outline of her ear and stopped at the earlobe, “Tell me you're not intending to get engaged with him” she heaved a little sigh and then shook her head, “Let's talk about this tomorrow, it's getting late” she said calmly, staring deep into my eyes. “Or you don't want him to see us together?” I asked with a rueful smile. “Yes, Alexander, I wouldn't like that to happen” she admitted in a low voice, lowering her head. I scoffed, looking away from her face, “Didn't you just say you're not planning to get married to him? Then wouldn't you allow him to catch us together to make the explanation lesser?” my voice was becoming hysterical now, “Or you are in love with him already?” she rolled her eyeballs, eyeing me playfully, “If I was in love with him, I wouldn't have come drag you from those prostitutes” she pouted her lips then paused for a moment, probably thinking I was going to retort. But I was feeling so pained already, I had expected her to suggest we walk up to Henry Torres and explained everything to him. Kiara is mine and no one can ever have her, even after my death. She reached out her hand and took mine in hers, “Believe me, Alexander, I'll explain everything to you tomorrow, including the criminal who had attempted to execute me in order to separate us” hearing the last part, my heart throbbed wildly against my chest. She just reminded me of the question I should have asked initially, but I was so eager on having her back into my life before we could discuss any other things. “I should have known that for long, Kiara, but it never crossed my mind someone would go after your life” I spoke softly, feeling remorseful. “Aiden has been crying over his daddy since noon” she let out softly, obviously trying to switch the topic. I was suddenly strung out as soon as I realized what she had meant by her words. 'Until when am I going to get used to the fact that I'm now a father' “Can I go see him?” I asked worriedly, “No, you'll see him tomorrow” she assured me as she continued to pat the back of my hand.
Walking back to the party, Henry Torres was the first person we saw. He was looking anxious with two bodyguards right behind him. “Where have you been, Kiara? I've been looking for you. You got me worried.” he rushed his words in a breath, holding her shoulders. “It's nothing serious, Henry, thank goodness Mr. Alexander was there with me,” Kiara told him with a smile on her face. “Really?” he grinned, facing me. I only gave a perfunctory nod, having no interest in this conversation whatsoever, “I don't know what you've done with my wife, Mr. Alexander” he paused, looking into my eyes intently as if he wanted to find out something from me. “But thank you very much, she seemed to love it” he concluded, a trace of a conniving smile could be seen on his face as he reached out and patted my shoulder. I looked over at his hand on my shoulder, “Yes, Mr. Torres. I'll get going now, anyway” I notified, and without waiting for his reaction, I walked out on them. Damn! Why am I still feeling like this when she had promised to tell me everything tomorrow?
The next day,
I was waiting impatiently for her call, pacing the length of my office back and forth with my phone in my hand. Gosh! I'm afraid I won't be able to stick with her word again, I'll just call her myself. I collected her business card from where I had kept it inside one of the drawers, and then punched her digits into my phone. Thank goodness she picked up at the second ring, “Alexander,” she called out with a soft sob, I gulped down, hoping nothing has gone wrong. “What's wrong, Kiara, where are you?” I asked restlessly, “In my office, but we won't be meeting as planned today again” my brows furrowed deeply, “Why? Tell me, is there a problem?” I listened as she released a deep sigh, “I don't know, Alexander, but since you left last night, Henry has been acting weirdly, and not only that, he doubled my guards this morning and instructed them to always follow me around” I scoffed, “Then how does it stop our meeting?” I asked. “Don't you get it, they will follow me everywhere and inform their boss of my movement” her tone aggravated. I sucked in a sharp breath, rubbing my forehead, and an idea struck me, bringing a smile to my face. “We are going to meet today, Kiara,” I told her. “But how?” my smile grew wider, “Just hold on,” with that, I disconnected the call and placed a call through Amelia at once. As soon as she picked up, “I need a favor, please” I pleaded, “What's it, sir?” she asked calmly. “You're going to head to Kiara's boutique now. Make sure you wear a face cap and a shade” I instructed, “But why?” she quizzed. “You both will exchange dresses, but you'll have to stay back as Kiara while she leaves the office as Amelia”
Smiling so big, she jumped on me and engaged our lips in a brief kiss. “You're a genius, Alexander” she praised, pushing away the strands of my hair that were drooping around my forehead. I chuckled, taking her hand and making her sit on one of the two couches in the hotel room. “So, would you like to have something first? Food?” I asked, she shook her head and gestured at me to also sit down. “I know that I've made a terrible mistake, Alexander” she began, the smile that was dazzling around her face was now long gone. “Henry kept asking after the father of my child. Is it that we ended our relationship, or he doesn't accept the pregnancy? But I was unable to provide an answer. In my opinion, I thought you never searched for me and have already forgotten about me” tears gradually filled her eyes as she lowered her head. “So, what did you tell him?” I questioned, calmly. “I didn't say anything about Aiden's father. All I revealed to him was how I ended up in the ocean” she continued, more tears streaming down her cheeks. “How?” I muttered, holding her hand in mine. “It was Nicholas. He came to my house that night and talked me into coming with him to his car to discuss” by this time, my heart was now throbbing strongly inside my chest upon hearing his name. “I was stunned when he started driving his car, after telling me it we just a talk. I thought he was only joking around, I never knew what his motive was until he stopped the car and dragged me out of the car” I balled my trembling hands into a fist, feeling all the muscles on my body tightened. “He carried me and swung me over the bridge, telling me he never loved me, but noticed you do. So, just to get to you, he uses me as his weapon, but he was disgruntled that the table turned around” my heart aches terribly, knowing the end of the story. “He was so disappointed, I fell in love with you before he could even plan on how to ruin you. I begged him, Alexander, I pleaded with him to let me go, and I'll pretend nothing ever came between us, but instead, he flung me into the ocean” I shut my eyes, allowing my tears to trickle down my face.Download Novelah App
