Chapter Three

Don't think that I threw my dishes in the sink again because I felt ashamed that it was Messy Sippy who was always washing our dishes, even though she didn't have to do it.
I drank a glass of water and went out of the dining room. I'm not a full-fledged exorcist, nor do I engage in any paranormal activities. I'm just using them to have fun and find amusement, but because there are many fools in Sequijor who believe in witches and wizards, I earned money through them.
Ghosts and the devil are things I've never seen before. I turned on the television and watched the morning shows over and over again. If I could be the operator of this station, I would like to change their shows.
The door of my father's bedroom suddenly thuds. He and Messy Sippy had dressed up. I guessed that they would be going to work today, and I wasn't wrong.
"Ezekiel, I, and Magdalene are now on our way to the company, where many works and papers await us. Don't forget not to make an absurdity, to take care of yourself and also the house," Edward said.
I didn't reply to anything. He didn't need to tell me where he was going, because we had been far from each other even though he wasn't going somewhere. Mostly, he doesn't need to remind me to take care of myself and the house, because I'm of age to know what's right and wrong.
"Farewell, son!" These were the last words that came out of Messy Sippy's red lips before they went out of the house. I turned off the television and heard the throttle applied and the car's sounds slowly obliterated.
I inhaled and emitted a long, deep, and audible breath. I stretch my arms and legs. I don't need to exercise anymore because of my well-stretch of walking and running everyday back and forth from school to home. It's my father who needs to exercise, because he's always using his car, even if his destination is just nearby.
What the hell was this thing I felt? Is there someone still following me? Until now? I'm going to the bathroom to bathe myself with cool water, but it seems that someone is also going to watch me naked.
"Hey!" I exclaimed. "Whoever you are, show your face!"
Because of what I'm doing with this thing, I may sound and appear insane. I inhaled and sighed. I don't want to lose my mind just because of these misguided feelings.
The clothesline splattered back and forth in just a blink of an eye as I pulled my white towel that quickly swirled around it. I immediately headed to the bathroom and locked the door, as if there was someone who liked to watch me bathing.
"Am I so sexy that even a ghost will fall in love with me?" Is that the question that I have been thinking about while the cool water from the shower pours over me? There are so many things that I could fear, but falling in love with a ghost is not scary, but I'll call that spoiling my mind.
After I took a bath and changed my clothes, I threw my laundry in the container where my father put his clothes too—I really don't care if he'll mock me again.
I went towards the living room and put on my boots. Currently, I feel fresh, though the sun's kiss on my face is so warm. I don't know why our earth's condition is getting worse, but please don't suspect me, because I'm not involved in those environmental problems.
Kiko's house is quieter than it was before. His mother was just buried in the ground a week ago, and his wound from a sharp blade is undoubtedly still painful.
Mister MccBald was the one who was always sitting on their front porch after his wife died. He's not showing even a little smile, unlike before, when he was always smiling wherever he went.
Kiko certainly inherited his behaviors from his father, because they are both always exuberant, and currently, they both have pouted lips and brooding eyes.
"Good day, Mister MccBald, is Kiko still here?" I asked.
The only word that came out of his mouth was "Yes."
"Can I ask him to go with me to my grandmother?"
The only word that came out of his mouth was "Yes."
"You won't mock him if he goes with me?"
The only word that came out of his mouth was "Yes."
I don't want to say anything more. I know that he will just say "yes" and nothing else. It made me think of asking him something funny, so that he would smile even just a little.
"Do you want to eat durians?" I asked.
Kiko told me that his father really hated the fetid smell of durian fruit, and he would nauseate even just hearing the name of the fruit, but it seemed he was disappointed in hearing me say the word.
"Yes!" He chuckled while exclaiming the word.
Hearing the word made me think not to lose hope, as if I could be the king of making someone smile despite their situation. I'm also sad that in two shakes of a lamb's tail, Mister MccBald's sky became cloudy again.
I was going to ask Mister MccBald if he's bald, but because of fear that he might be mad, I didn't do it. I still needed to go somewhere; therefore, I got inside their house and searched for Kiko. It seems that he won't go out of his bedroom, as that's what he's been doing since his mother died. He's been absent for weeks, and I'm hoping that he'll not be dropped out of school, because that's so important.
Several times, I knocked on the door of his bedroom, but nobody answered. So I did nothing if he didn't want to see me, so I just went out shrugging. I headed to my house to get my thick maroon cloak. I know that it's a bit weedy in the place where my grandmother currently resides.
My house doors and windows are all locked, so that my mocking father won't scold me that there's a robber who has entered my house. I will be walking along the street this time, because my father used the car.
It's just okay for me to walk, especially since I saw my crush glimpsing in the window of their house. She's Liza Soberanio, one of those beautiful girls on our campus.
Something's wrong! suddenly slaps my face, although there's nobody beside me. It wasn't anything else but a ghost. What!? A ghost? For goodness' sake, I ran because of the ghost that seems to be following me wherever I goes.
I looked at both sides, back and forth, up and down, but I saw no one. It's just the unblemished blue sky, concrete streets, houses, and a few people. I already checked my pocket to see if there was someone inside. I felt disappointed that my pocket only contained a hole.
Uncertainly, I'm just alone here, drifting along the quiet street. The wind whispers and sends shivers down my spine. It's unbelievable that someone could slap me as hard as that.
My hunch becomes stronger, and my bloodless heart throbs louder. I ran very quickly. In two shakes of a lamb's tail, I arrived at the wooden gate of my grandmother's house.
"Grandmother! Grandmother!" I shouted several times.
The door of the house that looked haunted cried out, but I saw nobody. I was surprised when someone suddenly appeared. She was none other than my grandmother, who looked younger regardless of her age.
My grandmother immediately went towards the wooden gate and happily opened it for me. Her eyes sparkle with happiness at seeing the handsome boy who suddenly explodes after ten years of being inactive.
"Ezekiel, is that you?" My grandmother asked
I feel that her heart seems to jump because of the exhilaration that she currently feels. Maybe she doesn't believe me, that I'm just a figment of her imagination or an illusion caused by her longing't funny, she gently rubbed her eyes—maybe to know if I'm real and if I really exist in this world.
M grandmother is a notorious exorcist and paranormal doer. She lives in the old house, which is said to be haunted because of its looks. Certainly, everything was just according to people who believed in peculiar entities.
"Grandma, I'm sorry because I haven't visited you for a decade. By the way, how are you—how's life here?" I asked.
My grandmother replied, "You're just six years old when I last saw you, grandson. You were just little at that time, but now you're already big and tall. I can't even recognize the man that appeared by the wooden gate, but you're still a handsome son. I'm sure there are many girls pursuing you."
I didn't say anything, but I just let my smile reply to her. She told me many things, and my mind felt it was difficult to absorb them all. My grandmother will undoubtedly miss me. We entered the grassy lawn. It's not weedy here anymore. For sure, my grandmother always cuts bad weeds.
"I'm just living fine here, son, though sometimes it's inevitable that there's someone doing an absurdity to my house. How about you, son? I also heard the news about Kelly's death. Sorry because I hadn't been there even once."
"Everything is gradually changing, mother. After my mother's death, my father went back to my house, and not just that, he also brought someone with him, a new girlfriend!"
The swing was still alive until now. I sat down on it. I know that it was built many years ago because I was always here when I was little. Everything may change, but for sure, this place will always stay the same.
"Just have more understanding with your father, son. A handsome man is pursued by women, but you should not follow your father's doom if you want true love," she advised.
"I know that, grandma, but my father seemed to marry his new girlfriend, because they're both living in my house."
"Just don't mind your father; he will just give us stress. What's most important is that he doesn't hurt you?"
Grandma's word sounds interrogative, but she's right; therefore, I didn't reply to her. It's just okay for me if Edward and Messy Sippy stay in my house, as long as they don't hurt me, and we don't hurt each other.
"You looked so exhausted. Did you run just to get here?" Grandma asked. "By the way, you won't come here without any reason. Don't tell me that you are getting married and you just want me to attend your wedding." She chuckled.
"Honestly, I feel that there's something following me just a while ago, and that's also the reason why I went here, because there are many things messing up my mind."
"Wait—stop swinging, son!" she barked. "There's something different that I feel right now. I feel the presence of an entity that was always following you wherever you go?"
"Wha—what?" I'm shocked because I also have a hunch that there's someone who's always watching me, and even my grandmother feels that entities are watching me.
