Hunger Strike

Chapter 55: Hunger Strike
Fera’s Pov
Days had passed and she never heard anything from Nick, Lora, and even Fred. No one ever showed up to visit her, she wasn’t expecting them to be but she was still hurt that no one showed up even though she knew she will make them leave. Ironic, yes.
Lately, she secretly throws her food and eats nothing, she would take a bite but didn’t eat enough for her stomach. She didn’t feel like eating anything like she was full but not.
Looking at the inmate with her, they act like they were just in their houses. Doing chores and doing things to entertain them, there would be a little argument sometimes but mild.
She stared at the window on her side, ‘It doesn’t feel new, I used to live like this. As if this scared me.’ It’s not that she didn’t get what was happening. She knew that someone was trying to make her suffer. But suffering wasn’t new to her, it was not that she couldn’t fight back, she was tired of fighting back anymore when she had nothing to fight for already. They killed her nanny.
‘I know someone wants my life, I know they want all those properties, those privileges and wealth. They can have it know, I am giving them the chance to crash me, finish what they have started.’ She looked at her palm, ‘I only went this far dad, I gave up. I’m sorry.’
She looked at someone who passed her cell. It was a cop who walked passed, and she blinked. ‘What was taking them long? They should have come to me and tortured me.’
She took a long inhale and heavily dropped it.
“What’s with the heavy sigh?” She closed her eyes when she heard her voice.
“What do you want, Gail?”
“Nothing, I was just asking. What’s the matter?” She raised her eyebrow and pointed to the steel bar’s caging her.
“That’s the matter,” Fera answered.
“What, you want thicker?” And she placed a white plastic in front of her. “The government doesn’t have enough budget for that, not like you.” And sat next to her, she took out a burger and pizza. She also had two bottled water.
“What’s this?” she asked.
“Food.”
“I know, what for?”
“For…the stomach? Food to eat, what’s wrong with you?” And Gail bit her burger.
“It’s dangerous for you to stay here.”
“Whatever, eat up.” But Fera didn’t move and crossed his arms. “Or else, I’ll shout and tell my dad you choke me.”
She harshly snatched the burger out of the plastic and took a bit. “Happy?”
She showed her fist and raised her thumb. “Better,” and she continued eating. “You know what, I can bail you out and you can pay me once you’re out of here.”
She didn’t respond and continued biting, she kept herself busy and even avoid her gaze.
“I know you are not stupid to realize that things were too easy for you, the victim here was your father, but I can bail you out since no one was filling any case against you but because your family was full of controversy and seemed like a fiction life that appears in the newspaper every day, everyone had their eyes on you.” Fera stayed silent.
“If I were you, I would go and slap them with the truth. They were talking too much about you as if they knew you. Every comment and every fuss they make, they just appear insecure to me who took advantage of the situation to ruin your name more.”
‘That’s why I am not you.” She said and put the burger down, she remember that cheeseburger near her apartment. The burger introduces by Nick.
“I don’t understand where you are rooting from. All I could do is breathe next to you.” Abigail handed her a bottle of water. “But if I could help you, I will. You just tell me what to do.”
“Thank you.” The first time she saw Abigail smile but she failed to return it.
“I suggest, you bail yourself out now or clear your name now before a complainant popped out with a pain witness. That’s would be more complicated.”
“I know what I am doing.” She nodded and took out a cigar after eating.
“Sure you are Fair. Cigar?” She handed a stick to her after she finished a few bites of the pizza.
“Make it two.”
“Sure thing, babe. Here you go.” She handed three and they started smoking. Fera started to enjoy the menthol with the bitter taste of smoke and its strong aroma. It was not the enjoyment before but it was just calming her now.
“You know smoking is bad for the health, right?” Gail suddenly reminded her when she finished her second stick.
“You know no one cares, right?”
“HAHAHA now I’m seeing the bitch side of you. Amusing, I like you. Not filtered but fake.”
That comment stretched her lips into a small smile. She got her.
“So?”
“Nothing, I’ll be heading out in a few minutes. I just dropped by actually to ruin your hunger strike. I heard from dad that you weren’t eating enough.” Why would she care? She couldn’t help to ask herself.
“Okay?”
“Summer is about to end anytime soon. I’ll be busy at school and I am a college student so I won’t be here often.” Gail said and blew some smoke.
“Good luck.”
“So I got something for you, I want to talk to you sometimes. I need a bitch to speak with.” She handed her a cellphone.
“This is illegal.” She couldn’t believe what Gail was doing.
“Who sounds criminal now? Take it, don’t worry it’s safe.” She took her hand and put the phone in her palm.
“You’re crazy, your father is a cop for f*cking sake.”
“You are the one who sounds crazy, you are here for being a criminal now you are acting scared to broke rules. And he’s the cop, not me.” And she stood, she started taking the trashes and placed them back on the plastic and walked out.
“I can smell your innocence, don’t show that here. Take care, Fair.” She nodded and watched her walk out. But suddenly she walked back. “One more thing, I broke that camera, your safe until someone would notice.” And she pointed that CCTV camera above her.
‘You’re a badass, Gail.’
