Chapter 61: Lied “I…I was just wondering.” She added when Ben didn’t answer for a few seconds. He saw her regretful face when he started smiling. “He’s fine, just a gunshot on his shoulder. We were abducted for two days so don’t worry if he can’t visit you for a while. His grandparents probably ground him but he’ll find a way to you soon.” He said and guilt drew on her face, she has always been transparent when it comes to Nick. “Okay.” Her words may lie but her face and eyes couldn’t. He nodded and turned to leave. He didn’t know if it was effective to show her that they have done almost everything just to fix the mess and she wasn’t cooperating. A part of him was disappointed and a part of him was curious. Why would she lie and keep it if it wasn’t a major thing? He drove all the way home and looked for Lora, he found her in his kitchen eating alone while thinking about something. “I need your help,” said he. She snapped from her thoughts and look at her. “It depends.” She instantly answered and started eating again. “I want to visit the Fuentes Mansion. I need you to go with me so I could investigate freely.” Ben said straight which was responded with three blinks. “Why do you think I can do that?” She asked which confused him. He saw her shake her head and drank her water. “Let me remind you, my friend. I am a secretary, my job is to arrange things for them and do anything they say,” she raised her pointing finger. “Nana Felly manage the house stability, about Fera, what the house needs, her job was to organize everything about the house, or should I say home.” She added another finger, “And Baldo, the butler, who handles everything, generally. The properties, her security, transaction, and the only driver Mr. Fuentes allow to drive for him,” and he raised the third finger. She flashed a fake smile, “Therefore, I conclude that the permission you are asking for should come from the most trusted Baldo. Even I, I am not allowed to just barge in there, I need to give him a heads up or asked for permission.” He couldn’t believe her but there was no reason to lie unless she was pretending to work with him to limit his moves. “And another thing, I was fired by Fera herself.” And all the chances vanished. “I am working for her, why I am not allowed to investigate the crime seen?” He frustratingly asked. “Calm down, I got you.” His blood boil when he saw her smile. “I am not playing around.” “So do I? I am telling the truth but thanks to me I am a secretary that could cross heaven and swim the ocean.” She snatched her cellphone out of her pocket and started dialing. ‘What is it?’ he heard a man answer from the other end. “I need your approval, Mr. Fuentes. Fair’s Prosecutor Benjamin Leonardo wanted to investigate in the mansion.” She said and he patiently waited for his response. ‘Baldo needs to be there,’ his response was delightful. “I will be there, we don’t need his presence.” Her demand scares him, he might take the approval back. ‘We? You are going with him, you know him?’ “I am actually in his house, you can talk to him-” “Baldo will be there and that’s final.” He kicked her foot and gave her a warning look. The call ended shortly and he blew his relief hearing his words before it ended. “Where did you get the nerve of demanding?” he asked her. “You should thank me than insult me like that.” She finished her food and wash her plate. “If you would Baldo you’ll understand why I don’t like him around.” But he care nothing, all he wanted is to get there and see the house where she grew up. “He messages me, eight in the morning tomorrow we can visit the mansion.” She said so Ben went to his room. He needed some alone time to think straight. He change his t-shirt and saw her diary on his desk in the corner. He got it and sat in his chair. It wasn’t a normal diary, everything was written in a poem. ‘The rain had poured as if it was sore. Like a tear that hit the floor, due to a hurt soul.’ Sorrowful, it was sorrowful, her words touched his heart. He knew how painful it was to lose a parent, her mother died just before she started writing. According to the media, the first sentence she wrote was an original poem. She wrote her first when she was five, months after her mother passed away. Their bonding as a mother was studying at that age. He had read articles about her since he was a huge fan. She was lazy at writing but when she realized that days had passed and her mother didn’t come to teach her how to write she obligingly practiced writing. In her mother’s casket, instead of throwing a flower, she threw a pencil while crying. She felt betrayed and never hold a pencil after her burial. But when she misses her mother she would go to her study table and write anything she want. Her sorrowful writings were understandable. ‘You left me a pen, so I created a penname, You left me a brush, so I created a painting, You left me in pain, you dare to stop breathing, Even if I was hurting, and I am still hurting. This may be her old poem which she revised. He knew that the poem was about his mother, it was her who taught her how to right, so she became a writer, she taught her how to paint and she became a painter. ‘Flashing and blinding lights, ignored violated rights, featuring inner fights, under the city lights, in justice I have lost sight.’ This was the media who demand their statements when her mother died. True enough that the media had gone too far especially since they weren’t showbiz personalities, it was total disrespect. ‘What was right and what was wrong? In my father’s eyes, I am always wrong,’ He vented his frustration to her, I see. Ben commented in his mind. “Ben!” He heard her call his name, he instantly jumps out of his chair and went to his door, as he touch the doorknob he stop. “Why?” “Open your office, I need to get my work done.” She ordered without even a hint of kindness since she asked for a favor, she instead sounded demanding. “Open it yourself, you have hands.” “Ask me if I do have keys, but if you want me to break it then I’d be happy to do it for you.” Her fake melodic and soft voice made him smile. ‘This lady had been given me a headache but I seemed to like it.’ He shook his head a bit and open his door. To his surprise, she was too close to the door and he almost kissed her. “Step back!” She spat but he only moved closer until they were an inch apart. “I think it was you who need to step back.” He said but she only left her eyebrow. “Don’t mess with me, KID, I am old enough not to understand your stares and glance. I must warn you, I am not into dramas.”
