Chapter 26
"C-celle... you can call me Celle."
"Celle...? What a beautiful name you have there," he grinned, "Then maybe under that hood is also a beauty to behold, right?"
She took a step back, "I c-can't take it off."
"What a pity," he pouted, then he finally noticed the wounds she had on her chest and on her forearm, "Well..." he took out a healing pill and handed it to her, "Use this pill made by one of my friend to cure your wound."
Lucelle took a long gaze at the pill, "Are you really saying that this pill can cure me? Or maybe, this pill contains poison and after being poisoned, you will do something...uhm... inappropriate to me."
"You are thinking too much, " he tittered, "With my handsome appearance, you think I'm tricking you?"
"It is not impossible though," she uttered, direct to the point.
He sighed, "Yeah, yeah. You can't trust me because we just met right now. But you can trust the pill made by my friend. It's not a poison pill, you know. It can even dispel some lowly poison, I will wager my dignity for that!"
"Though, the one who made that pill is a poisonous woman," he whispered which Lucelle didn't hear.
"What is your dignity, then?" she asked.
He proudly said, "Of course, my dignity is me, being the messenger of knowledge!"
"Really?"
"Yes. You can trust my dignity. Everyone can prove that as I am famous for bringing any kind of information, I can easily discover new things and I can explore every part of this world!" he exclaimed, "And this hummingbird of mine is one of my tamed birds, my partner," then the hummingbird flew from his shoulder and it landed onto Lucelle's head while chirping, as if approving that what his owner said was the truth.
Lucelle sighed, "Then I will believe your hummingbird," then took the healing pill to her mouth.
"You believe my hummingbird, but you didn't believe me," he pouted once again.
Few seconds after taking the pill, what Travis said was really the truth. It completely healed the wound on her chest and her forearm, it even didn't have scars as if there was no wound at all.
"T-thank you," she couldn't help but to feel glad to his kindness.
"No problem. It's not my pill, anyway." he just replied.
"Still, I'm thankful to you especially because you are not lying to me. I can even feel that the remaining poison is nowhere to be found from my body. It completely eliminated thanks to the pill."
"Of course, I will never lie to anyone," he proudly uttered, "Wait... Perhaps someone dared to lie to you?"
So if it's not anyone, he can lie?
"Y-yeah," she shyly said, "I had been tricked once."
"Is the person you're talking about is also the reason why you were wounded and poison?" he asked with a brightened eyes.
His curiosity really knows no bound. As expected of the messenger of knowledge!
"You are right."
He flicked his fingers, "I know it! Then, did you take revenge?"
"Sort of..."
She cooperated with the prince to defeat Lord Dominus, so perhaps it could be counted as revenge? Or more like half-revenge? And even though she didn't see Lord Dominus being perished, she was sure that the prince could do it.
"Then, you can put your trust on me as I'm not an untrustworthy person. You know, trust is the essence of my business and authenticity attracts people to believe me."
Lucelle was in silence, she couldn't find words to say to him. She doesn't want to trust him, but the way he was doing... was really confusing.
Maybe I can put my trust him, little by little? If I notice any strange behavior of him, I will either run away or I will burn him alive.
Travis didn't mind her silence, rather he was still smiling, "As you are new here, let me escort and guide you throughout the Freed Town. Is that alright with you?"
She just nodded as a reply to him.
"Good! Then let's go!"
Then both of them started walking toward the entrance. While walking, Travis was busy talking here and talking there about the Freed Town and Lucelle only nodded and shook her head as answers to Travis' questions.
He really can't keep his mouth shut.
Just when they were about to enter the entrance, they were halted by the two guards who crossed their spears into each other at the center.
"Without showing an identity tag, one is not allowed to enter the town!" one of the guard, who had a tiny black mustache, yelled.
Travis faced Lucelle as he winked her, "Sorry, I forgot to say to you that one needs identity tag to enter the town."
Lucelle made a couldn't-believe sighed.
Did he just say earlier that he is the messenger of knowledge? How comes he forgot the important detail to enter the town?
"Then, do you have an identity tag, right?" she asked him.
"Yes, I have." replied by him.
"Where is it?"
"I left my identity tag at the inn where my friends and I are staying," he just said as if it was not a problem.
Can I really trust him?
"I don't have an identity tag while you left yours at the inn. So how can we enter?"
He winked at her once again, "Don't worry. I have an idea. Just watch and see my ability." then he went onto the guards.
Just what kind of idea he was thinking and what will be his ability? Just how can he use his dignity as a messenger of knowledge?
