CHAPTER 36

The driver kept calling out for more passengers, Asaba! Asaba! Other traveler's started trooping to the park. They must have been people from the remote villages, who were trying to make their way to the city. As the morning kept dawning into day, people started flocking the entire motor park. Two more passengers entered into the vehicle where Prieto was, and the driver entered to the drivers corner, to start up the vehicle for movement. The engine of the Nissan vehicle got kick started, and the driver turned on the car stereo. As he made his way to the express road going to Asaba.
The journey from Obiaruku to Asaba, was almost one and half hours. The driver just kept zooming, along the express route to the city as the day break forth. The journey took a while, Prieto sat at the doorside of the car with the windows of the car whined down. Enjoying the breeze flapping through his face, as the car travel with speed along the express. The stereo of the car, played fine tunes of ragae music which Prieto knoded his head along with. Lucky Dube! Played through the car stereo. His music was inspiring, and it sure brought reflection to mind. What make the music flawless, were the music bands playing in rythms beneath the musicians lyrics, with the back up singers. I remembered a particular song that played about him, talking of a distance brother that married a woman that is not good, the lyric goes thus " everywhere ever you are, remember me! It really a true life story, that was translated into music. Infact listening to the musicians voice alone, one can feel so much pain and agony from his lyrical delivery.
The musician seems like a man that had gone through several hard times, before coming to stardom. That was exactly what Prieto depict, while listening to the ragae artist experience. His music is classic and it's well accepted at the eastern part of the country we are. As the music played on, the driver kept singing along with the ragae artist playing. For Prieto, the mood was right and the people inside the car cannot deny the effectual impact, of the musical delivery in their minds. The music kept everyone inside the car on a refreshing mood. Through the journey to Asaba, the only thing Prieto could see each time he looked through the car window, were bushes and plantation of palm kernels along the road.
The journey seems unending, looking at this habitat. In short, without the music the trip would have been very dull and boring. Therefore, Prieto considered his trip to Jos in another transit, after the journey to Asaba. This made him to consider getting himself an ear piece, because he would be sitting down in a bus traveling several hours. Long enough, Prieto started seeing houses and other building, he flair in adjustment on sit to see more in that area, he looked through the window trying to visualize the area the car was. He looked at the driver to see if he was conscious about the vicinity, but he only pedaled driving along the more. This made Prieto felt a little bit of despair. He thought seeing those houses was a prove that they were already in Asaba, but they were only built along the route to the road, of a particular community.
Nevertheless, Prieto knew soonest the vehicle will arrive in Asaba. He was only bothered about the next trip, he will be engaged with on his way to Jos. Which will be the longest voyage through the day. Prieto looked at the ladies that were sitting next to him in the car, he felt like having a conversation with them to keep his loneliness at bay, at least. He looked at the fair looking girl sitting next to him, "Hello?" He made an impression with a mild smile on his face. "My name is Prieto", "I am a native of Obinomba village, am just on my way for the National Youth Corp.
I am traveling to Jos now, where I was posted". Prieto told her. She smiled "nice to meet you". She replied. "So what's your name?", Prieto asked. "I am Susan", she said. Prieto further compliment her, " You are such a beautiful lady". Susan said "thanks". Where are you from?", Prieto questioned. "I am student of the Delta State University, Asaba". "Am studying economics". Wao! That great. Prieto exclaimed. How nice. "I guess you are heading to your campus?", He said to her. "Susan objected! "How do you mean?", asking Prieto. "Am only suggesting", Prieto said. "Well your suggestion is as good as been right", Susan replied him. While they conversate, the music was still coming strong from the background, not having much in mind to say to Susan, Prieto asked her if she likes the music that was playing, Susan said "you mean Lucky Dube?", Oh! "You know the artist?", Prieto asked excitedly. Of course, everyone knows lucky Dube now. "He is an international raega musician, the popular type", Susan said. Oh wao! Prieto was getting fascinated.
The other lady sitting next to Susan was listening to their conversation, not minding to interfare. "Anyway, I am going on the longest possible journey of my life today", Prieto told Susan. Susan started laughing! " what do you mean?", asking him. "So why the laughter?", "The way you said, "the longest possible journey of my life", like you are traveling to eternity. Hahaha! Prieto laughed. "Am just a little bit nervous", he said to Susan, who was still laughing at his statement earlier. "It's okay to be nervous at a first hand experience", "that don't mean you have to be afraid of been, where you want to be". "That really sound encouraging and Interesting, Prieto added. " Babe I must confess, that you are an intelligent person from the way you talk". "I have been at my mother village for some couple of months, I haven't seen any intelligent lady, that could keep my company like you". "Though it's a rural place anyway, and I wasn't really expecting much, which I never had". "Are you saying there are no educated ladies in the village you could mingle with?" Susan asked Prieto, he said not at all.
She just looked away to the other side of the car window. Prieto wondered why she switched, but he didn't say a word. When Susan turn back her face to Prieto, she said "I hope you get to find one in Jos". "What?", Prieto asked and she said "your mate". The two of them were engrossed in their talking with each other, that they never knew when the vehicle arrived in Asaba.
