CHAPTER 40

They both stepped out of the room, with Prieto's hand wrapped round Susan's shoulders, as they used the staircase. The key to the room was with Prieto, when they got to the receptionist he told the bar man he would soon be back. Prieto and Susan walked through the door of the guest house, along to the road. They had really spent time together, it's was 4:30pm and Susan needed to be on campus for evening classes.
Prieto told Susan that he will be leaving the next day by the evening, Susan objected, no! " You can't do that", "if you leave by the evening tomorrow that means you will be traveling late night". "And this won't be nice on your first trip to a place you haven't been before". Susan said "pls don't do that". Prieto smiled, asking Susan "do you really care about me as such?", "Pls don't question me as such", you should have known better. Susan replied him, parting the braids of her hair to one side of her face.
Hey! Chill out; Prieto said. Anyway I will forfeit my journey tommorow, I will make it the day after in the morning. "Good! Susan encouraged him. Not long, a motorcyclist moved passed, as they were working towards the main road. Ssssh! Susan signaled, the driver pulled over and turn to drive closer, to the street they were a coming from, leaving the main road. "Campus! Susan said. Okay! The bike man responded.
Susan jumped on the passenger sit. Before she did she hugged Prieto, and he held on to her tightly, for what seems about 10seconds. The feelings between them was mutual. When he let go, Susan gave him a peck by the chin. Then she climbed the bike. The bike man drove away, heading straight to the university campus. Prieto went back into the guest house, not minding why he was there in the first place.
His trip to Jos was still on his mind, as he arrived back to the guest house. Nevertheless, he took the chances to be at the city in Asaba, with an idea to purchase a mobile phone for himself. He conceived the idea of having a mobile phone because of Susan, because by the next day he would be in Jos for almost a year, therefore to keep in touch with her, he decided to buy a phone for himself.
When he got to his room in the guest house, he went to where he kept his traveling bag, and counted #30,000 from the money he had. Prieto stuff the money inside his pocket, he decided to go down stairs to the bar, after locking the door to the room. He went to the bar man down stairs, and ordered for another cold bottle of beer. Prieto sat at the bar, watching the television of a particular channel.
One of those Asaba transmission network called Minaj. The channel was on the evening news, about the happening ongoing in the community. Prieto saw the state at which Asaba was, and the kinds of people occupying the streets of it's locality. The bar tender, brought forth the bottle of beer for him, and placed it in front of the table, where he sat watching the television.
Prieto asked him to pop the bottle open for him, with an opener. The bar man did, and he took the bottle straight to his mouth, gulping the beer to half level in satisfaction. He kept watching the television to see more about the town. When he was done drinking, he asked the bar man where he could purchase an android phone, at a place nearby. "I believe you can get good phones at McCauley zone", the bar man said. "Where is that pls?", Prieto asked. "Here in Asaba". "So how do I get there?", he further asked the bar man. "If you get to the main road, just asked any motorcyclist that you are going to McCauley zone, they will sure take you there. Okay! Prieto replied.
He stood up and made his way out of the bar, Prieto walked down to the main road and waited at the junction to the street of the guest house. A bike drove pass and he signaled on the driver, the motorcyclist stopped and asked him where he was going. Prieto said, "take me to McCauley zone". He said okay! Prieto entered the bike and the bike man drove off, to the place along the express road.
As the bike went on, Prieto observed several places on the road, the houses, people, cars and other things. At the boundaries where his eyes could see them. The wind they were going against was humid, because it's was already running to late hours of the evening. They arrived at McCauley zone, Prieto paid the motorcyclist and walked to where a lot of people, were doing their buying and selling of phones majorly.
He entered an outlet and request for an android phone, at the price of the amount he was holding. The seller went into his stalk and brought out four different brands. Some of the prices of the phone he brought were lesser in price to what he budgeted, while other were a little far more expensive, than what he planned. Nevertheless, they were all new phones that suit his interest. "How much for this and how much for that?", Prieto asked the seller.
The seller gave him the prices of the phone, he brought out for him to buy from him. Prieto went ahead to choose one of them, at the price range of the amount he was holding. "I think preferably, I like the techno F1". He said to the seller, who quickly brought out the phone from the pack, to sample it for him to see that it's a good one. He let out the phone from the boxed case, and showed it to Prieto to see. Prieto replied again, "I like it". The seller asked Prieto if he is with his sim card, so he could help him slot it in to test drive the mobile hand set, to confirm it's operation.
Prieto said no! Asking the mobile phone seller, "how do I get one?". "You can check the next door beside here," pointing to the woman selling bulk airtime, and sim packs of various network. "I will need an mtn line", he said. So Prieto went to the woman selling the sim packs, " I want to buy mtn line, how much do you sell pls?", "we sell at #250naira", the woman responded. Okay! "Let me have the mtn line". She gave him the mtn sim pack and Prieto handed a #500naira note to her.
Prieto went back to the man at the mobile phone store, here is the line. "You can go ahead and try it", Prieto said. "Wait a minute, do you think this sim will work on the phone without it not registered?", asking the seller. "Oh that is true", he said. "It's really have to be registered, before the mobile network can appear on it". The seller added. Shit! So what's the use of buying it?". Prieto concluded. "So now what the way forward?". Because I can't wait all day on the process, of trying to get the sim registered. Okay! "Let me try one of the sim card I have here". The seller said.
