Chapter 24: An Unceremonial Perfect End

Whatever Christabel had told Jessica Bolton had turned the impossible into a possible realistic marriage between her and Nicholas Wild. Her wise use of words in the presence of Jessica Bolton had led her to call her parents and inform them in Christabel's presence that she was no longer getting married to Nicholas Wild.
As the weeks rolled in, new information surfaced round the city and it was discovered that Patrick Wild's source of wealth had been gotten from an illegal source. It was discovered that he ran a business that involved the smuggling of innocent children around the continent for the blind sake of prostitution.
Nicholas couldn't believe that his father could be involved in such a thing, but the clear proofs in front of him couldn't say otherwise. It was hard for him to believe that all the money he had enjoyed since the day he was born was gotten from the illegal act that his father had decided to indulge himself in. Indeed! It was a sad day that he could not fully comprehend.
"At least, we can start all over again," Christabel tried to encourage him by making him smile. "We can start from somewhere small and see if we can build something that is wonderful. You never know what the future holds for us. All it takes is a little bit of faith."
Nicholas tried to smile as he felt Christabel's hands around his body. He knew she was just trying to encourage him and make him feel better. He knew that she cared a lot about him and how he felt. He knew that their love was strong enough to start a family.
"I can't believe this is happening," Nicholas informed her. "I can't believe we are starting all over again as if we never began."
Christabel laughed for a while and then smiled at him. "No matter what happens now, I will still choose this life than the one that involved you marrying that woman named Jessica Bolton. Do you know how hard it would have been for me to live with the thoughts of seeing you together with that woman? Do you know how much I loathed knowing fully well that you would share your bed with another woman?"
"Honestly, I didn't know!" Nicholas touched his head gently. "I didn't know I was going to hurt you deeply by marrying that woman, but I was afraid of what my parents might do to me if I decided to go against their wish. I was very afraid."
"Well," Christabel said with a strong positivity in her voice, "that is over now. You don't have to worry about your parents ever bothering your life again because that has been taken care of by me."
"That is true," Nicholas smiled. "But, I am still wondering how you were able to do what you did to them. Why didn't you tell me that you had prior knowledge of some things related to them that could put them away from society for a long period of time?"
Christabel sighed. "I wanted to tell you, but I couldn't find the courage to do so because I felt you might try to dissuade me from seeking justice. I don't actually know what was going on in my head at the moment when I discovered those details about your parents. I believe all I wanted to do was to make sure that they paid for forcing you to marry someone that you did not love. I was angry, Nicholas. And, in my anger, I walked straight to the house where Jessica Bolton lived and spilled out everything that I knew about your family."
Nicholas looked at her eyes deeply. He could feel the freedom that she felt in knowing fully well that her plans to get him all by herself had worked out very well. With his parents in prison and facing trial for their actions, he could finally get the chance to start from scratch and build a life with her.
"What are you looking at?" She startled him.
"No! I am not looking at anything," he responded immediately. "I was just thinking of something that has been on my mind."
"What is it?" She asked him politely.
"It is nothing," he said to her.
"Come on! Tell me!" She pleaded desperately. "I am your wife. You are expected to tell me everything that goes on in your mind."
He laughed for a short while. "I just want you to know that despite everything that happened, I still love my parents. I still value them for everything they have done in my life."
"I understand," Christabel smiled. "You do not have to worry about that. I understand how you feel. What happened to us is an unceremonial perfect end to a disaster that would have happened if you ended up marrying Jessica Bolton."
