Chapter 47 ~ XLVI ~

Drystan's POV
I stood rooted to the spot and watched as my parents walked in with younger me, and I was shown another version of the scene I thought I knew so well.
The young version of me who was 10 years old at the time, looked around the forest with scrunched eyebrows and looked at my parents, "why are we here mum?"
My parents exchanged nervous glances before mum turned to him with a sweet smile on her face, she grabbed his cheek and pinched it lightly, "didn't papa and I tell you before?" She cooed and he shook his head, "well, mum and dad are here to go on a run. So you'll just sit here and wait for us, okay?"
The young Drystan pouted and shook his head, "but I don't want to be here, mum, it looks so scary" he complained and looked around the forest, then turned to dad with a hopeful glint in his eyes, "Dad, can't I just come with you guys?"
But dad knelt beside him and held his face gently, "you're a big boy, right?" He asked and Drystan nodded his head, "then you'll do as mummy said, okay? You'll have to wait for us here, we won't be long" he paused and looked at mum, "right?"
Mum immediately plopped down on her knees and bobbed her head, "I promise we'd be back before you know it. So..." She looked around and her eyes landed on a log of wood at the corner, "just sit right here and wait for us, okay?" She grabbed his hand and helped him sit on the wood.
He looked at both of them with sadness and a silent plea not to leave him there, but he finally caved in when he realized there was nothing he could do to change their minds, "please hurry back" he mumbled and they both took turns to place a kiss on his forehead.
"We will, it'll be over before you know it" mum whispered and walked away from the area, and dad immediately followed her.
They both moved about 30 feet away from him and shifted into their wolf forms, they howled together when they shifted and with just one glance at each other charged with great speed towards the younger version of me.
My eyes widened when I realized what they planned on doing and I opened my mouth to scream at myself to watch out, but no sound came out and I couldn't move my body to go to him and help him. So I just watched with horror what was about to happen.
The stampede of their run must have alerted the younger version of me because he turned towards them the very next second and his eyes slowly widened as he took in the sight in front of him, "mu... Mu.. " he stuttered and the next second both wolves jumped on him.
"No!" The scream finally left my lips and everything came to a halt, I panted heavily and looked around at everything in absolute shock.
"Do you get it now, Drystan?" A voice said beside me and I slowly turned my head to the side and saw Selene looking at me, "do you get it? The reason Kazmer had to do what he did?" She asked again and my eyes wandered back to the scene and I slowly nodded my head.
"Bu- But why? Why?" I stuttered and my lips trembled as I tried to keep the tears from falling, "why... Why did they...?" The words trailed off my lips and I turned to Selene, who was still looking at me.
"First of Drystan, it was because of who you are," she said and I felt the breath get knocked out of me, "and second of all, it's because of them" She pointed in a random direction and I slowly turned to the direction she pointed at, that was when I noticed two frozen figures that I had not noticed earlier.
And at that moment, I felt my whole world come crashing down. My head spun as lots of questions flooded my mind, I was overcome with dizziness and for a moment I thought I was going to slump to the floor, but that didn't happen, instead, I stood rooted to the spot as I stared at Derrick and his dad, Alpha Cain, both of them had smiles on their faces as they watched my parents try to devour me.
"Ho- how... How come they...?" I trailed off without moving my eyes from them, "how could they?" I asked and I heard Selene take a deep breath from beside me.
"That's a long story Drystan, one which I'm willing to tell if you're willing to listen." she breathed out and I tore my eyes away from the scene and towards her, "I can't show you everything but I can tell you everything, let's go," she said and stretched out her hand to me.
I looked down at her hand and gently placed my hand in hers, she smiled at me and clasped our hands together, "ready?" She asked and I bobbed my head.
And just like I came here, I was thrown into a whirlpool of memories and pictures. I woke up with a gasp and immediately sat up from where I was laying, I looked around the room in fear as I tried to recognize where I was, and only released a breath of relief when I recognized the place as my living room.
I took a few seconds to calm down and recollect in detail all that I had seen and heard, when I felt a little more stable than I was when I woke up, I pulled the duvet I was covered with away from my body and raised my legs down from the couch, so I could go in search of Selene.
But instead of my leg meeting the hard floor, I felt it press against a squishy surface and a cry of pain followed. I immediately pulled my legs back up, and looked down in search of the source, only to find Selene laying on the floor and clutching her boobs, "Selene?" I called out and she groaned as she sat up from the floor.
"You made it..." She mumbled with a small smile on her face and I immediately pulled her into a hug. She yelped as she made contact with my chest but she smiled and wrapped her arms around my body.
"I am so sorry for doubting you. I..." She pulled away from the hug while I was still talking and shook her head softly.
"You don't have to apologize for anything. You had every reason to doubt me back, I would have doubted me too" her voice was so soft as she spoke and I smiled lopsidedly at her.
I pulled her up from the floor into my arms, and buried my face in her neck, "I don't deserve you"
"I was born to serve you" came her quick reply and we both chuckled over that. Comfortable silence fell on us after her comment, and I spent my time inhaling the sweet scent of her hair but my mind was nowhere present.
What I saw earlier clouded my mind and I struggled to find a way to bring up the topic but my worries were cut shut when Selene, herself, brought up the topic. "Are you ready to talk about what you saw earlier?" She asked and I retracted my head from her neck without saying a word, "I would like to say it's okay if you don't want to talk about it but the 24th is barely 5 days away and..."
I cut short her rambling by quickly saying, "I'm ready to talk about it" she immediately readjusted on the couch and turned to me with a look of uncertainty, but I didn't let her layout her worries and immediately said, "yes, I'm sure"
She managed a smile on her face at my response, "well, if you're sure you are ready, I'm also ready to tell you everything I know" she began and I gave her my undivided attention, "This is a long story, but I'm going to try my best to make it as short are possible"
"Take your time"
She released a deep breath and began talking, "Your parents, Imre and Zelda, were the last two of the first generation werewolves. They were the last of the Truebloods to exist and they knew their lives were in great danger because of the greed of Werewolves to possess the power of the Truebloods, but more than their lives they feared for the life of their unborn child that'd carry the weight of being the last Trueblood and possessing the strength and wolves of the past Truebloods."
"So they went to the people you knew as your parents when Zelda was ready to give birth, and under an oath, they promised to take care of you and to keep you safe from the rest of the Werewolves by keeping your identity a secret, and they did" she looked at me with a smile as she said that, "they kept you safe and they loved you as their child, they were willing to go to extreme lengths to keep you safe. But all that died when Alpha Cain, Derrick's dad got the news of your existence"
"That was when everything took a drastic turn, Alpha Cain turned packs upside down in search of you till he found you under the care of the people you called parents. He tried bribing them with half of his pack to have you killed and the powers of the Truebloods transferred to him and his son, Derrick. But of course, they rejected his offer, they were bound by the oath they took with your parents and they loved you a great deal"
I frowned when she said that and I cocked my head to the side, "then why did they decide to kill me? If they loved me so much and rejected half of this pack for me, then why? Why did they suddenly turn their backs on me"
"Because it came down to their lives or yours." She answered immediately and my heart broke into a million pieces, "and in the end, they chose to save your life"
"What are you saying?" I exclaimed and she held my hand.
"Yes, Drystan. They chose to save your life, and Kazmer killed them on their demand. When Alpha Cain had threatened to kill them if they didn't bring you to him, they turned to their last option, which was to force Kazmer out of you before you were even old enough to turn. They had to fake an attack on you because they knew your wolves would fight to protect you"
I let out breaths from my mouth when she said that and had to keep my eyes closed for a few seconds to keep the tears from falling, "they died to protect me?" I sobbed and she squeezed my hands comfortingly.
"They did, Drystan and that's why you have to fight even harder to make sure Derrick fails at his plans" she mumbled and I snapped my bloodshot eyes open immediately, "yes, Derrick had been a part of his father's plan from a very young age. You were brought to this pack so they could keep their eyes on you, and even after his father's death, he swore to see the end of this. He knew it was time to complete what he had started when you said Kazmer was trying to break free, and he has crafted a bright plan to get rid of you on his wedding day"
I clenched my jaw so tight it almost became painful, "I trusted and loved him for years, and all these while he's been plotting my death?" I hissed and Selene squeezed my hand reassuringly again.
"Now you can plot his death, instead" she sneered and I turned to her with a smirk,
"I sure as hell will, but before we get into that" I started and she raised her brows, "how did you know all this?"
"Because she has accepted who she is and has unlocked the power of knowing," a voice said from the door and we both turned in the direction the voice came from, and an old scrawny woman stood there with a creepy smile on her face, "Hello Drystan" she greeted and my brows scrunched up in confusion.
"How do you know my name and how did you even get in here?" I asked and all she did was smile and turned to Selene, who surprisingly had a pleasant smile on her face.
"That's the moon goddess, be respectful" she whispered to me and then to the scrawny old woman, "Welcome, Elphaba"
