Chapter 60 Fulfilling Failure

*Vienna's P.O.V.*
"Have you seen Gibson?" I asked Aurora after the conversation I had with my siblings. I saw her walking around the halls.
"Yes, I think he's on his father's office. A floor above this and in the west wing. I'm not sure but I saw them talking so, they're probably there dear." she provided. Oh, of course, Brooklyn's father is a general and a member of the royal advisers, so yeah. I made my way there, marvelling on the interior design of the castle once again.
Apparently there were a lot of doors and rooms on this wing. But I heard male voices talking behind the third door from the staircase and their conversation caught my attention.
"Just think of the amount of power you can posses!" a gruff male voice said.
"Such power I'm not interested in. I don't even want to be a general." a familiar baritone answered.
"Oh why are you such a fool Brooklyn! You found favor with the Goddess, anyone in your position would agree with me." Brandon Gibson said seemingly frustrated now.
"I'm glad I'm the one in my position, because I won't use it for anything bad." my mate's answer put a smile on my face, so we're on the same track.
"God damn! I'm so unlucky with you! When I saw you again with that girl, I thought you'd be my key to glory but no! You have to so dumb!"
"Oh father, for one, I wouldn't trade my mate for power or worse, use her to be in power, like you did with mom. You killed her right? You killed her because you want to be good on the eyes of the late king!" there was a loud smack, I guess his father had hit him.
"I didn't want to do that, it was her fault she had to meddle with something that's not her business."
"She did what was right and you were such a coward for not standing by her side at that time."
I heard a lot of noises, thuds and hits before the door opened and out came Brooklyn, very much annoyed. "I don't want to see you here again." his father called out.
"Like hell I'd want to see you again." Brooklyn cursed under his breath as he passed by me. I quickly recovered from the shock as the door closed and I hurriedly walked beside him.
"Hey..." I said as I gently touched his hand.
"Vienna." he said surprised. "You done talking to your siblings?" he asked as he wrapped his hand on mine, holding it.
"Yeah, they asked me to stay here for awhile." I said as we walked aimlessly around the halls.
"Is that so? It's bound to happen, you are a royal after all."
"Yeah, but before that, I'd like to have a word with some of our friends, can I use your phone?"
"Sure. Where did you put yours though?"
"I probably lost it." I said sheepishly. "I gotta buy a new one some other time."
He offered me his phone after fishing it out of his pocket. My cheeks heat up as I saw that his wallpaper was a photo of us. It's a photo we took way back in London, before he knew the bond thing.
I just smiled and searched his contacts for Dark as I sent him a message. He responded with an "ok" later on and I handed the phone back to him.
"So, where do we stay?" he asked.
"Hello ma'am and sir, follow me." we looked at each other, surprised as the head mistress spoke behind us. I guess she must've heard us and oh well. We just followed her. Walking hand in hand until we reached our destination, we thanked her then entered the room. After we freshened up for a bit, we decided to just cuddle up on the couch cause why not?
There's just something so calm about being in his presence. Maybe because of the mate bond, which made me wonder why I resisted this for a long time way back in London. I mean, for sure I had a very reasonable reason back then but now? Now that I have him by my side, I don't know if something can still compare to what we have.
"Hey baby..." he whispered and I hummed in response. "Living in the luxuries of this castle sure is fine, but I'm not really a fan of it."
"Me too. But I don't have much of a choice now that I need to be here." I sighed. I mean, I kind of missed the travels I had and the adventures it bring. But of course more significant matters are at hand here in Donegal.
"Yeah, I'll be wherever you may be, rest assured." he stated.
"Don't you want to have a life of your own? Outside this castle perhaps?"
"Are you throwing me away?" I smacked his shoulder at that.
"No, I'm just saying, maybe you want to work outside and all, you do have a pretty professional job in London, don't you miss being a cop?"
"Yeah, about that, I do. And I resigned on my job there in London, sent them an email a week ago and all, I do want to apply here in Ireland, perhaps I'd be back in police service when everything here is settled."
"Oh, that's nice. I- I actually don't know what I'd be outside these walls. I mean I do have pretty decent jobs in the past but I never stay in one place long enough to be regular. I guess I'd be a full-time witch princess."
"No interest in being more?"
"It's already a pain in the head to take in all this responsibility, besides, Marcos would really do great with that."
"I agree. There's just some power hungry idiot who tried to talk me to do otherwise earlier which is very annoying." he must be talking about his father.
"Nevermind him babe, Marcos and I already spoke, we closed the discussion to this one. Besides, he's a hundred percent cut out to be king, he's got more experience and all, I'm sure the vicor rules are not the only rules the elders would follow."
"You're right. I hope everything would be settled by then so we could adjust with our new lives here in Ireland."
"Yeah, I hope so too. All the action-drama thing we experienced lately is just somehow draining."
"Yeah, don't forget the twisted romance."
I laughed at his joke, I mean, he's joking right? But anyways, it is kind of twisted. Everything seems to be twisted. We felt the late afternoon breeze from the open window and it's kind of cool.
"Perhaps it's going to be a cold night." I commented then rubbed my palms together to produce fire. Did I mention this room has a fireplace? Well it does. I did say before that this castle is a mixture of ancient and modern styles and stuffs, so yeah, I let up the first place as Gibson, or should I say Brooklyn, closed the windows.
"Perhaps."
It was half past eleven at night when I dressed in a black sweatshirt with some denim jeans, my usual converse and a cloak. Brooklyn's now asleep and I didn't plan on walking him up. I did write him a simple note, just in case he wakes up and look for me.
*I'll see you in the morning. -V*
I wrote and placed it on the bedside table beside his phone, I'm sure he'll see it there. I tiptoe outside the room and wondered off the hallway. I see some fighter witches roaming around, guarding the castle.
I was on my way to the wangzhan I'm familiar with when,
"Going somewhere?" I spun around abruptly when I heard Marcos' voice. He's just outside in the garden, basking on the night air, perhaps?
"Yeah." I simply answered.
"Where?"
"I'm off to see Dark, there are a few things I want to discuss with him." I provided, because why not?
"I see, there sure are a few significant things you need to discuss, want me to give you a lift?" he offered.
"No thanks, I'm fine just crossing the wangzhan, please do tell your people there that I'm coming by, don't wanna seem like a thief." I chuckled.
"Sure." he said.
After I crossed the portal, I came down the attic and out of the house in Killarney, Dark should be outside waiting by now.
"Good evening ma'am." a guard greeted me as I exited the gate.
"Good evening." I said back.
I walked a few blocks away and entered the alley that Dark and I hid on, on that mission we both had a few weeks ago. It seems so long ago by now.
The alley is very much empty. Perhaps he's late but, my heart skipped a beat when a cold hand touched my shoulder.
"Dark!" I exclaimed, he looks so vampirey with his hooded jacket and sneaky tactics.
"Yeah, I'm good at this now." he said, somehow reading my mind. Maybe it's written all over my face.
"Yes, but don't do that again. It can give me a heart attack." I said honestly.
"So, what is that you want to tell me?" he asked.
We sat down on some of the barrels in the dimly lit alley as we discussed.
"I know I promised you something there in London a few months ago. I also know that it's the reason why we're here in Ireland. I just didn't expect that we'd encounter such, technicalities."I started off. I mean there's no other way to start off this conversation.
"You're right, kind of surprising but fulfilling." he agreed.
"Even for me."
"Especially for you Vienna."
"Yes. Finding out the truth of who I truly am and who I'm meant to be is so overwhelming, I'm just turning 19 and so much has happened already."
"Oh you're not the only one." he chuckled.
"How's being a vampire going so far?" I asked, just to get to the heart of the discussion.
"Helpful. There's no way I could've helped the way I did if I wasn't what I am now." and I can see that he means it.
"Thank you so much for everything you've done for me and my kind Dark, I wish I could do more for you." here goes the part I don't want to admit.
"Vienna, you've done so much for me already." he said comfortingly, but even his familiar voice can't calm down the hurricane I now am feeling.
"But I guess I can't really do the things you would've wanted me to do. I couldn't give you my blood." I finally said. The tears won't stop rolling down my cheeks.
He was silent and I'm afraid at what he would say. I just broke a promise and I don't really want to do it. But there's a love I don't want to loose, and I'm selfish for choosing it.
"May I know why?" he asked, ever so softly. He knows now that only my blood can make him human again but I have yet to tell him the consequences of that.
"Because it would cut off the bond I had with Gibson. And I don't want to be unfair to him or to you, so please forgive me for choosing this." I'm fully crying by now. It's true that I never wanted to choose, but I clearly had to.
I felt arms wrap around me and his hands rubbing my back to comfort me. "I couldn't blame you for choosing that Vienna, nor will I ask you to choose otherwise. Remember? I'm your biggest fan, it's Brooklyn and Vienna for the win, in fact,I actually took care of Briana your daughter." he said. I appreciate the humor he put in it but I still can't stop the tears.
"I just don't want to fail you." I honestly said.
"Oh, you didn't fail me, Vienna you didn't fail anyone. It's about time you do something for yourself too, since you always seem to put others first, just like me."
"Dark..."
"Hush now, I'm fine being a vampire now anyway and there's one promise you actually fulfilled."
"What is it?" I asked, finally having the courage to look at him.
"You made me accept and love what I've become now. You, along with the others, showed me that being a vampire isn't so bad after all. Just as long as you don't smell a lot of blood."
