Chapter 21
Amelia
We went through a door which I don't remember seeing while I was in kingdom high, it was tiny and had a construction like a ladder to it. I shook at the thought of climbing it.
"Scared?" Boss asked with his eyes squinted at me, "not really, I'm not sure I can climb that. I mean, what if it's not strong?" I asked with a shrug and he shook his head, "trust me" with that he began climbing the ladder with ease, I wondered if he was scared at all. I must confess, I think I'm more comfortable with this free part of boss.
"See?" He shouted from the top of the ladder and I looked up at him wondering he got up there so fast. I mean, the ladder is quite tall.
"You can come up now, it's strong as you can see" he smiled and shrugged. I pointed at my heels, "can't climb with this" I said with a shrug, "my bad" he said coming down again.
"Pull it off, it will help you climb faster" he said and I chuckled before removing my heels. He collected it and gestured for me to move ahead, "I will guide you from behind" he said and I shivered, "Don't worry, I will try not to look under your skirt" he said with a smirk and I hit his arm playfully and he laughed. I looked at him in surprise, this is not the boss I know, what got into him?, The boss I know does not laugh, I mean this is the first time I'm seeing him LAUGH. "What?" He asked with raised brow and I smiled, "nothing sir", "then go on, don't worry, you won't fall" he whispered. I took a deep breath before climbing with him following slowly behind.
We finally got to the rooftop and boss squealed happily and moved in a circle chuckling to himself. "Wow, I feel so good" he said with a smile. I just stared at him in surprise, I was getting the feeling of deja Vu and it forced tears out of my eyes.
Boss watched me as I removed my lens and pulled out my glasses before wearing it, I can't possibly cry with my lens on, it will probably damage my eyes. "So why are we here?" I asked boss and he looked down. He moved to the rails but I remained rooted to the ground. The rooftop brought me sad memories, "you must be wondering why my family is like that" he said before raising his eyes to look at me, I gave him a reassuring smile before I said, "I'm speechless, I never expected it from them, but it's fine actually" I said and he smiled.
"I never knew you used lenses, glasses look better on you" he said and I smiled, "used them while in this school, it was not a nice experience, trust me" I said and looked around for a seat. "Come, I will like to show you something" Boss said dragging me to the rails, I tried to restrain myself but he overpowered me. The city looked beautiful from up there and I smiled sadly as I recalled the day some stranger did the same, boss closed his eyes as the cool night breeze blew across his face. My hair which was packed was beginning to loose little by little.
"I always come here when I feel angry and depressed, it gives me some sort of. Comfort" he explained and I nodded in agreement, I feel the same too. "10 years ago, I lost my parents in the most tragic way. My dad was murdered in cold blood by hired assassins. He was killed right before my own eyes but I and my mom were able to escape. We ran into this town for safety. No one knew of our whereabouts, well except my uncle and his wife, and children. We mourned my father's death and soon began to adapt, everything was going back to normal, well except my father's death which was inevitable. Then, I was working as a waiter in one of the restaurant around, I came back from work one evening to meet our small home very quiet, it was unusual and I sensed something was amiss, I ran inside to meet my mom sprawled on the floor and choking on the coffee she took. She died in my arms, she was poisoned to death by unknown men. She warned me to run away, but I was still crying. Her body went cold in my arms, she was pale and lifeless, it was the most tragic day of my life. My heart was broken into a million pieces. I didn't know what to do, I was still crying over her death when I heard sounds of cars outside of our house. I peeped outside through the window to see the same men who had murdered my father. Of course, I couldn't see their faces but I could remember their car and mask. I dashed out of the house and ran away for my dear life. I couldn't bury my mother, I vowed never to return home. I was brought in by a man who trained me in school but before my graduation, he passed away. His children were Steven and Alexis. I became successful because of him and I will forever be grateful. On the day of my mother's death, I didn't know what to do, I had no place to run to and I had absolutely nothing on me. My heart was heavy and I felt empty, I looked for a secluded area to cry my eyes out but found none. My only solace was this rooftop. I came up here and cried till my eyes couldn't produce more tears, I sat in silence before a teenage girl came running towards the rail. She was attempting to end her life but, she didn't. That night, we cried on each other's arms because our hearts were heavy. I felt a connection between the both of us but I couldn't lay my hands on what it was. We consoled each other till another girl came to call her. I regret not seeing her face clearly but I always come up here with hope that we may meet again, one day" he concluded and stared at me.
My face was soaked in my own tears and my hair was finally loose, it scattered as the cool breeze blew on it. I pulled Boss in a hug and he buried his face in the crook of my neck. "You've gone through a lot boss, and I must commend you for being strong" I said and patted his back. We released from the hug and I cleaned my tears.
"This rooftop gives me sad memories. Like you've been told, I was a student of this school and like Alexis explained, I was a nerd, I was timid and shy and was always bullied. My only friend was Daisy, she's a friend indeed. I was raped and the doctor claimed I was pregnant. That was too much to take because, I was just 17. The boy who raped me talked me into committing suicide and like a fool, I agreed to do it. But, I was stopped by a strange man. He advised and consoled me. He talked me out of committing suicide, trust me, I would have done it if not for his interruption. I never saw or heard of him since then but one thing was certain, his words changed my life, for good" I told him and before I could utter another word, he pulled me into a bone crashing hug, "I found you, finally. I finally found you!" He shouted in joy. I giggled at his childish act, "I knew there was something about you from the time you showed up for the interview, it's good to see you girl" he said pulling me into another hug.
He bowed his head, "I'm sorry for the way I treated you", "it's nothing and I must say, I like this new part of you boss" I said and he chuckled, "you can call me by my name Mel" he said with a glint of happiness in his eyes. We stared at the night sky, our eyes meeting at intervals.

"I guess we should head home, I apologise for any inconvenience" he said after sometime, "it's okay, I was planning on spending the night at my parents, since we are here" I said with a shrug, "you can come too" I concluded and he beamed with smile, "really?, Then let's start going. I'm getting sleepy already" he said pretending to yawn and I stood up to gather my shoe and bag. "Now I'm looking at you Mel, there's no difference between you and the teenage girl. It's really you, you look exactly like her" he exclaimed folding his arms. I laughed a little before whispering, "see you down the ladder" before dashing out of the rooftop. I can't wait to go home and relax.
I couldn't climb the ladder alone so I waited for boss, I mean, Rolland to help me down. Together we walked to his car, he opened the passengers door and kissed my knuckles just like a gentleman before driving off the streets to my parents house.
