Chapter 22

“But that beast becomes human, Marco! We saw that," Uzenio's father said quivering.
“I don’t know, she also told us about that werewolf. But I don't know if she knows him or not," Her father said shaking his head and sighing to calm down.
“She was right, that big dog was a werewolf. He can transform himself as a human being but we don't know who that person is," a policeman replied.
"He hid his face that time so that I didn't see his face," said Uzenio's father.
"But I'm sure you know him, Halia," asked the policeman who was talking to her.
She looked at him first then looked at Uzenio and turned her gaze back to the police.  "Yes I know him, but I won't say who he is," she replied and they put their palms on their foreheads and faces together even the other just scratches their hairs. "All I can say is, he's not a bad person. He protects me, and every time that there's a vampire rushed to me, he's always there to save me. And I know, that's when you need his help. He'll help you," she said in chorus.
The policeman sighed.
She stepped on just one foot and stood straight in front of the police. “Now you know something about my magical bow. I will now ask for your cooperation. I need you to keep your mouth shut about me and as much as possible whatever you saw in the forest, let's not tell it to anybody. Because the vampires have now entered our very town," she told the truth and they looked at each other.
The policeman who was looking at her furrowed. "What do you mean?"
"In the new establishment," Uzenio interrupted. "That's a place where we first encountered a vampire. And I'm sure, maybe not only in that building, but there are also vampires. And there is the possibility that some of the vampires are right around us," Uzenio said, and she thought he would tell them that  Mr. Hidrith, who owns the building, was the leader of the vampires.
“But we cannot rush. So we have to keep it a secret first because otherwise, they will attack our whole town, and kill us all," she also said.
"That's why we have to leave here Halia," her father interjected.
“You know I won't allow that, Father. I don't want to leave them," she insisted. " It's you and Mother who need to be left— "
"Do you think I'll agree that, Halia?" Her mother sarcastically whispered. "You're the only one we care about and that's why your father and I want us to leave here—"
"I don't want Mother, and I keep saying I don't want to and I'll stay here," she kept insisting.
Both her father and mother sighed.
After their explanation, they ended up that conversation. Uzenio and the police and their two companions went home. They quietly ate with her parent for their dinner and their sulkiness to her was not hidden.
She also didn't feel like talking, so she just went into her room silently after eating.
-
In the town of Werewolves. At the door, Brimo was immediately met by his father the king. His gaze was authoritative on him as he transformed to be human in front of his father.
He was immediately wrapped in a white cloth by their housemaids who are also Werewolves. They bowed to him in respect then left. He took a step and followed his father who took the first step into their living room.
"I already knew what you're doing Brimo," his father calmly told him.
He was worried that he might get angry with him. "I'm sorry, my Father king," he apologized to him and bowed his head in respect
"I hope you don't lose your mind to be careful when you interact with people," his father reminded him calmly, something that confused him again whether he was angry or not.
"I have not forgotten that father king," he replied politely.
“But who is this woman who is always with you?” Asked his royal father and sarcastically turned to face him.
He was stunned and asked in his mind how he found out about Halia.
“Don't worry about her, Father. Like me, she also has a secret, if my personality was spread because of her. I will also reveal the fact that—”
"And she knows about your personality, Brimo?" His father the king asked angrily and he gulped.
"I didn't mean to, Father king, I'm sorry," he said and then bowed slightly to his father. "Torth almost killed me earlier. My body weakened so I went back to being human. She saw me, Father—"
"And why did you fight with Torth?" His father king strictly asked and slowly stepped towards him.
He looked straight into his eyes. “Because he wants to take Halia, Father king. They want to make Halia being their member. "
"And what's with this Halia, and you aggressively protect her even you and Torth will fight?" his father asked sarcastically.
"Because Halia is different, my father king," he admitted. "She is not a full blood of human because she has the blood of a fairy," he replied.
Suddenly his Father king straightened up and stared at him. "How can you be sure that she has a fairy race?" Asked his father king.
“Because she saved me from the edge of the afterlife, Father king. She revived me with her tears. Besides, her courage is unique. And according to her, she has a mission in this world. And she has a magical bow that her grandfather hand on to her," he replied. "But whether he has a fairy race or not, I need to save— "
"That was Diam's magical bow," his royal father whispered causing him to stop speaking. He even looked straight at him. "I want you to face this Halia to me, Brimo," his father proclaimed.
He bowed in front of him. "I will, my father king!"
The next day, when Halia came out of her room, she found Uzenio sitting in the living room. Her forehead furrowed as to why Uzenio was at their house even though it was very morning.
"Uzenio?" She quickly went down the stairs and approached Uzenio who was sitting on the couch. "Early in the morning, why are you here? ” she asked him
Uzenio looked at her and sighed. “Your parents told us to come here because they had to go to Macariola. Your mangoes are about to be harvested, and they need to be there to assist Mr. Tamaro, as your buyer," he replied.
She remembers that when they harvested their mango in Macariola village, her parents would go back to their town to take care of it. They just returned to their home province early because her Auntie Karen died.
But what Uzenio said 'us' caught her attention.
"Us?" she asked curiously.
Uzenio looked in the direction of the kitchen. She turned to face there and Brimo came out from the kitchen.
"The food is cooked already, you should eat now," he said but her feet seemed to have a life of their own and she quickly stepped towards Brimo.
She hugged him tightly in ecstasy and was thankful that he was well and without any scars on his body.
Brimo hugged her back and she felt him put a kiss on her hair. "I'm fine, Halia," he whispered to her.
She broke free from his embrace and was still crying staring into his eyes. “I'm scared of you. I don't know what to do—" she stopped speaking as she remembered that Uzenio was just there on the couch. She slowly turned to Uzenio and just gulped.
Uzenio looked at them seriously. So she just averted her eyes from him. She worries that Uzenio might have seen Brimo's face when he transformed into a human form being a werewolf yesterday.
"Just eat first, I cooked something for you," Brimo changed the topic and looked at Uzenio. "Zenio, let's eat together," Brimo said to Uzenio.
She looked at Uzenio and nodded eventually.
After they ate they thought of going to their mango plantation. It is vast because it measures 50 hectares. In that area is expected to have housing as well. These are the homes of their farmers. They are the ones their family trusts as the keepers of their mangoes.
On every three hectares, they can find a house. If not two, these are three. On the boundary of their wide mango farm, there is a high fence surrounding it. That place is also called Macariola Village. Because all the land there belongs to them. Macariola is the surname of her grandfather Damato. But the last name that attached her name was Catastran — the last name of her father, Marco Catastran.
Apart from the mango plantation, they also have a large paddy field, and they also have a piece of land there with the houses of their farmers. That land was given by their family to the people who lived there. No one claimed that land but them and they gave the people the right to live there.
That is why many people are close to them. They respect them for being a good person. Moreover, they are known to be helpful, especially her grandfather.
As her grandfather is gone, as well as his Auntie Karen who manages that vast land, it will be her parents who will take down their mango plantation now.
And they should just stay in this place because her parents already have a responsibility there.
“I don't think we are lucky this year. The mangoes are not plentiful today," she heard their farmers talking. They are currently putting the mangoes in a big basket.
They were still far away but she could already hear them talking.
"Why?" Uzenio asked her when she stopped. They were also in the middle of the mango tree and watching the harvest.
Brimo also looked at her, and she knew he could also hear what the woman farmer was saying.
She didn't answer Uzenio, and she just looked at the women putting mangoes in the big basket.
“Ma'am Karen died. This is also what happened when Doña Maria died, and the following year, Don Damato died. That's why for two years in a row, the mangoes did not produce much fruit," said another woman.
“But the following year, the harvest of the mango fruit was plenty. Especially since Ma'am Karen is always walking around here. I don't know why. It seems as if their crops are also suffering when they lose a member of their family," another woman commented in astonishment.
“Will you still be wondered? That Macariola's family are good people. They are a helpful family so that what is happening on their farm, is no longer surprising. We don't have to blame anyone if the harvest is not plenty today, because Ma'am Karen died, and their family is still in mourning," said another woman.
She took a deep breath because she felt sadness again. She remembered her Auntie Karen, and she knew that if she were alive, she was sure that their fields would bear abundant fruit.
"Is there a problem, Halia?" Uzenio asked worriedly.
She could not blame him if she asked again and again, because he did not hear what their farmers were talking about in the distance but he noticed something in her.
She looked at Uzenio and smiled bitterly. "The harvest would have been plenty today if my aunt, hadn't died," she answered Uzenio and sighed.
He looked at her sadly. “Yes, I noticed that too. Before she died, there were many fruits of your mango plantation. But when she died, there were falling fruits every day. So now we are harvesting only little fruit left," Uzenio agreed pouted.
She faced Brimo. And when she turned he was smiling at her. "Give me your hand," he whispered to her and took her hand pulling her to a big mango tree.
"Why?" She asked and looked to Uzenio who was also furrowing his forehead.
They stood up next to the tree, Brimo faced her but he turned his back on Uzenio. She was gulped by the sudden Brimo's eyes change in color. But she was jumped in a little and quickly shouted in a little when her hand was suddenly pierced by a sharp object.
When she looked at her finger, it was bleeding and Brimo's sharp nails were slowly disappearing. That just means it was Brimo who made her little wound.
Uzenio was alarmed to approach them when he saw her reaction. But Brimo squeezed her hand and smeared her blood on the mango tree.
She was surprised and cried because of the little pain she was feeling. Just as Uzenio approached them. Suddenly there was what sound they heard from the top of them.
Both Uzenio's and her eyes widened as they saw the growth of the fruits of the mango tree next to them.
"W-what happened?" Uzenio asked in shock.
Halia quickly looked around to see if anyone had seen them or not. But fortunately, no one saw them.
She looked at Brimo asking. “H-how—”
“Halia, you have a blood of fairy. And that's one the fairies ability, you can also give life," Brimo explained and that's when she understood what he meant.
When she found out, she secretly dripped her blood on the other trees.
"Halia, don't hurt yourself," Uzenio insisted and was full of worries about her. But she didn't listen and just continued. So Uzenio angrily confronted Brimo. "This is your fault!" he blamed Brimo.
"That's it! Boost more!"   she said joyously and looked at the two guys who are with her even though Uzenio was very worried about her because she had a lot of blood on her hand.
"That's enough Halia!" Uzenio insisted to her.
Brimo just smiled that something was Uzenio hated the most.
In the distance, Halia saw her parents. They are talking to a man who looked like a businessman. At the end where there is the road, there was a big truck parked and it looks like that is what they used to carry the mango fruits they were going to sell.
She folded her bloody hand slightly and hid it behind her back. He walked closer in the direction of her parents as Uzenio and Brimo followed her.
“Father! Mother!" She called to her parents and everyone turned to them. She looked around and also looked up at the mango trees. On each tree, there were men picking fruit. The others seemed to be old but still working for their livelihood.
"Halia, what are you doing here?" Asked her father. He seemed annoyed and she knew they were still sulky with her so she understood the cold treatment of her parents to her and they had just forced themselves to act okay.
"I want to watch harvesting mangoes, Father," she said to her father.
"We don't have a good harvest today, and I know you'll not like it," her Father told her coldly.
“Is she your daughter, Mr. Catastran?" Asked the man who was talking to her father. The man who was smiling at her father glanced at her.
Her parents smiled at the Man. "Yes, she is our only daughter," her mother proudly said and she approached her to hold her on the shoulder.
"She's beautiful," the man commented happily to her.
“Who else will be look-alike with, Mr. Tamaro?" Her father laughed and glanced at her mother.
They laughed and the man looked at Uzenio and Brimo. "They are friends of our daughter," her mother said and looked at Uzenio and Brimo. "Uzenio was the son of our Village council here," she pointed to Uzenio. "And Brimo was the son of Mayor Noreo in the other town," and she pointed to Brimo.
The man smiled at Brimo. "Brimo Milandres, nice to see you again," Mr. Tamaro greeted Brimo. She also looked at Brimo, and she wasn't surprised if Mr. Tamaro knew him. Because like them, they also have a vast of orchards.
“Have a great day, Mr. Tamaro! How are the fruits we delivered to you?" Brimo asked.
Mr. Tamaro smiled sweetly “Your father delivered so many apples and oranges, and we were short on budget. Thankfully your father agreed that the next day we would pay the remaining balance. Please tell your father, thank you very much," he instructed.
Brimo nodded. "No problem, Mr. Tamaro," he agreed and smiled at Mr. Tamaro.
"Mother?" Halia patted her mother on the shoulder. She looked at her. "Isn't it, mangoes that are close to ripe should be harvested first?"
His mother nodded. "Of course why?"
“In the frontier, there are too many fruits. That should be the first harvest, Mother," she said and pointed in the direction of the mango where she had already dripped her blood using her right hand because her left hand was bleeding.
The other farmers eyed her.
“But, there is little fruit there, Halia. That is what they said— ”
“There are many fruits there, Mother. Brimo and I as well as Uzenio were there and the mango trees there were full of fruits," she said and the farmers were astonished. She confronted them."You can go there and see. I assure you, there are many fruits there," she said to the two men.
"S-sure thing, Señorita," the chorus of the two men and then went to see it.
