The Funeral 26

“Certainly. Firstly, the tailor would take your measurements and make your dress for the funeral.”
“Wow! That is nice. I'm honored.”
“You are welcome. Let's see the tailor.”
“It is okay.” She took her to the tailor and he took her measurements.
“Whose wear is this?” Sarah asked the tailor when she saw a set of clothes on the tailor's table.
“They forgot to pick it along with the rest,” the tailor explained. Then, Sarah inspected the clothes and discovered that it was the General Manager's wears.
“This is carelessness,” she pointed out. “Susan, I'm entrusting Tony's wears into your care. Ensure that you deliver it to him personally.”
“You can bank on me. I will do that.”
They walked back to the house and engaged in other things like the arrangements of the souvenirs while they waited for the tailor to make her clothes.
“The tailor would be through in a few hours.”
“All right, Mrs. Owens.”
Indeed, she was helpful. As a fashion designer, she assisted in decorating the funeral tent and it was unique. The exterior decorator was delighted to have her because the unique decoration would make her to stand out among her competitors.
“Will you be opportune to look at the decoration at the venue? We will appreciate your input,” the decorator requested.
“It is all right.”
She informed Sarah and she approved of it. She asked Oliver and a police officer to accompany her. Oliver assisted in his little way and fell in love with the trade. At 6 PM, they returned to the house.
Nevertheless, when the tailor could not make her clothes to her taste, she took over the task and got what she wanted. Meanwhile, she inspected the General Manager's wears and made some adjustments to her taste, too. To her deprivation, when Sarah saw her clothes, she brought hers and her husband's own for adjustments. Ada and Uju did the same with their husbands' own for amendment.
“Why the hurry. She can spend the night with us?” Ada asked with concern when she noticed that she was rushing.
“Her boss' wears are still here. She must deliver them to him this night,” Sarah clarified.
“I see.”
By 8 PM, Susan was through with the amendments, and left the house for the hotel with Richard, Barry and two police men, as though, she was still the General Manager's wife.
At the Hotel.
Silas returned to the hotel after he saw Evans for instructions. While he was with him, he got a call that the IGP and his entourage had arrived, and he left at once for the hotel to receive him. Nevertheless, out of the fifty suites that Evans booked, ten suites of two bedrooms were allocated to the members of the Blue Sea Oil and Gas Group. The ten suites would have comfortably accommodated the twenty delegates if the General Manager's secretary was in the team. She would have shared the same suite with her boss. When they returned to the hotel without Susan, Silas had no choice but to take her luggage to the only room available when the General Manager was chatting with the IGP and the EFCC boss.
Afterward, Tony returned to his suite and had his dinner. At 7 PM, he was disturbed when he did not see Susan and was reluctant to ask any staff members about her, or give the GMD's wife a call. Meanwhile, he did not have her contact.
“Is she still in the village by this time or what?” He murmured. “But I asked her to let me know when she is back.” At that point, many thoughts beclouded his mind, ranging from avoidance, disobedience, or mishap on the road. He looked at the time, and it was 9 PM, and he was distraught. He had no choice but to give Silas, who accompanied the IGP to the government house, a call. Likewise, he picked up his phone and, and suddenly, he heard the doorbell. Now, he would rather not rejoice because it could be the room service department. Then, the sound came again, and he got off his room and walked to the door. He peered through the peephole and behold the woman, who meant more than a staff to him.
“Susan! What kept you?” He asked more like a husband, who was worried about his wife when he opened the door.
“Good evening, Mr. Benedict. I apologized for returning late. I had to help out with one or two things.” Now, Tony looked at the exhausted woman and noticed that she truly helped out.
“Come in.” He said and made a way for her to come in. “Thank you, sir. These are your wears for the funeral,” She handed out the shopping bag which contained the clothes to him, and he collected it. He removed them from the bag and admired them.
“This is nice,” he commended and locked eyes with her. She smiled softly and emphasized,
“I'm glad that you love it. I had to adjust it to make it look good on you.”
“Did you make it?” He asked excitedly.
“Something like that.”
“I like your sense of fashion. I appreciate.”
“I'm delighted to be of help.”
“Kindly take your seat, Susan. We need to talk.”
“Okay, Mr. Benedict. I will like it if you permit me to freshen up.”
The General Manager was confused at that point. He ought to have considered that before making any request. To give him more mental turbulence, she announced, “I will be with you, shortly.”
Right in front of his nose, she opened the door of the second room, and got inside. Then, she shut the door at once.
“When did she move in?” Mr. Benedict mumbled in wonderment and gazed at the door for a few seconds. When he recovered from his shock, he took a heavy breath and walked into his room, and took a proper look at the clothes.
“This is beautiful,” he remarked, and relished the fact that it was made by Susan. After a few minutes, he heard her open the door, and he walked out of his room.
