Chapter 42 Stop Me If You Can!

A strong current could suddenly be felt by Gavin, who ducked to the side immediately. He was almost caught off-guard by the poisoned arrow that got embedded in a pillar behind him.
Gavin took a brief look at the arrow and cursed under his breath, "fu*k! An intruder in here?"
Beta Ortiz looked on in utter dismay, as he tried his best to pinpoint the location of the intruder. He also, just like Gavin, couldn't tell how an intruder could breach the gates and come as far as the Alpha's chamber without being caught.
Gavin tried to locate the intruder, but a familiar scent wafted into his nostrils. He disregarded it and chastised himself for smelling something that was only in his mind. What a time to zone off, he thought.
After a brief moment of being in deep thought, he felt another arrow aiming for his chest. He still ducked away and saw this arrow embedded in the brick wall just where he was standing.
He couldn't imagine how someone could be so bold and skilled at the same time. Gavin quickly shifted his position and taunted,
"If you are so good, why don't you show your face? You wouldn't happen to be too ugly, right?" He was pissed to realize that someone was impersonating Lolita.
He expected the person to be pissed by his taunts, but he only got a loud chuckle, followed by that same familiar voice, "Tsk! We meet again, Alpha Gavin?"
The voice just made him notice that he wasn't mistaken. "How did she get here?" He was even tempted to think that the person was just trying to catch him unawares. However, he could feel so much hostility from her.
Lolita stepped out of her hideout, clad in all-black attire, her long hair wrapped in a beautiful ponytail, and her bow securely placed at her back.
Gavin's breath hitched at that moment, and he felt like a lump was lodged in his throat. "Am I still dreaming?"
He spent the last few months dreaming of seeing Lolita so much that when she finally appeared, he couldn't believe his eyes.
Gavin had an extremely contagious smile on his face, but suddenly wiped it off when he noticed the current situation. "Why would Lolita Clint try to kill me?"
"Oh, I see you're smiling, huh!" Lolita said in jest. She then reached for her bow and added, "Here, let me give you something to smile about!"
Ortiz was finally over his momentary shock, as he exclaimed agitatedly, Miss Clint, what are you trying to do? We've been looking everywhere for you." His statement pissed Lolita so much that she sharply retorted, "Of course, you have!"
Sensing the violent aura around her, Wesley assumed an attack posture and wanted to pounce on Lolita when he was suddenly attacked by Lolita instead.
"Same old moves. You think you can catch me off-guard again?"
She then threw some poisoned needles at Ortiz, who quickly hid behind a pillar and shouted, "gua…!" Before he could finish the statement, Lolita waved her hands casually, which resulted in sweeping him off his feet.
He was suddenly hoisted and made to hit hard against a wall behind him. Ortiz couldn't believe what he was seeing. Even though he was in so much pain, he still managed to ask in shock,
"What are you?" A wicked smile then laced Lolita's lips as she turned towards him and said, "The last person you'll see. Any last words?!"
Lolita spoke in such a relaxed manner that Gavin couldn't understand what was going on. The young girl in his memory was cold alright, but she was a kind and empathetic person.
She willingly took him into her home and gladly treated his wounds. He couldn't quite place his hands on what could have caused the situation.
He suddenly felt that she might have been poisoned by something that caused her to lose her will. Some of his trusted aides were treated in that same manner, and Gavin wouldn't be surprised to know that Lolita fell into the hands of those same people.
Nothing else could explain her sudden act of violence toward him.
Lolita turned away from Ortiz and commanded, "Stay down. I'm not here for you!" Gavin could only squint his eyebrows in worry after hearing her words.
If it is the same drug he is suspecting, Lolita wouldn't listen to anything unless her aim is achieved. He felt so bitter that the rogues got to Lolita before he could, just like his sister.
At that moment, he couldn't stop himself from despising the rogues so much, but he despised himself even more. Whoever was out there causing havoc decided to go after the people who matter most to him.
The person he's currently seeing may not even be the girl he loves anymore.
"Why are you here?" Gavin asked Lolita dispiritedly. He could already tell that Wesley wasn't in any dire situation, so he chose to question Lolita.
Gavin just couldn't find it in himself to attack the girl who saved his life once.
"Why am I here? You have the nerve to ask me that? Never mind. Why don't we find out?"
Lolita retorted, and immediately disappeared from her spot while wielding her bow and arrow.
She suddenly threw an arrow at Gavin once more, one which he quickly dodged, however, she threw a poisoned needle that he didn't see.
Lolita realized the needle was about to pierce Gavin's neck but was suddenly blown away by a strange current. She just couldn't believe her eyes, and neither did Gavin.
Lolita became frustrated, as all her attacks seemed to be redirected somehow. When she threw one more arrow, she activated her night vision and saw where the problem could be coming from.
"How dare you, Venom? Are you trying to piss me off? Calm down my foot."
Venom was trying to reason with Lolita, but the angry young lady wouldn't give him the chance to make his point. He couldn't help wondering who was more stubborn, Lolita or her father.
Venom's trick was to coil around her wrist at a strange angle, and also add a small redirection to the arrows as a contingency plan. The small trick was how the arrow got blown away as soon as it reached Alpha Gavin.
Venom just wouldn't allow Lolita to hurt Gavin in any way. She was shocked to know that Venom was the cause of all her woes at the moment.
Lolita was so angry at how her supposed guardian was rather the cause of her frustration. She had spent too much time at this place than she had envisaged.
Knowing that there was nothing that could change Venom's mind, she chose to change her approach.
She planned on going for a swift attack and leaving. Then she could wait at home for the news of Gavin's passing. However, the damned snake wouldn't let her be.
However, she wasn't going to give up so easily.
Gavin watched on as Lolita seemed to be talking to herself and arguing as if someone was with her. He couldn't tell what was happening, but if he could, he would capture her and try to save her this time.
Lolita tauntingly said to Venom,
"You damned snake. Fine. Now try and stop me if you can."
