Chapter 30 Premonition

THEO️
Luke and I were walking along the streets of New York after we'd left the Hexagon. It was nice to feel like myself again.
"Let's stop for some ice cream" Luke said and I rolled my eyes.
"We don't have to" I said.
"Come on, Theo. When was the last time you had some ice cream?" He said, raising a brow.
"Seriously, you-"
"Daeron"
I froze when I heard someone call me using my true name. That someone wasn't Luke. I slowly turned to look at who it was. I suddenly wished I'd ignored him because at that point, I wanted to strangle him to death. "Matthias or should I say, Urèn?" I said, clenching my fists.
Matthias was just the same. As I stared at him, all I could see was him throwing the dragon blade at me.
"Daeron, I-"
"Let me guess, you've been following me. Have you come to finish what you started?" I said.
He sighed
"I'm really sorry for what I did to you-"
"You're sorry? Are you fucking kidding me right now? You nearly killed me!" I spat.
He swallowed hard, avoiding my eyes.
"I didn't want to do that to you. I thought I was doing the right thing"
"I can't believe this. Using the dragon blade on your own stepbrother is the right thing to do? Urèn, what the hell happened to you?" Luke said. "I'll tell you everything. Just hear me out. I died but somehow, our uncle found a necromancer. He brought me back. He promised that I would rule after him. I couldn't refuse, Dae. He had me under his control. He told me that you were going to turn dark. He told me that no one would be able to stop you. He asked me to kill you before you turned dark. I'm so sorry, Daeron. I didn't want to do that to you" Matthias said, his voice trembling.
"That's all you could come up with? Do you think I believe you? Do you think I'm stupid?" I said.
"You have to believe me...."
"If Taerus actually had you under his control, how are you here right now?"
"As soon as you started to bleed, the pain in your eyes snapped me out of it. I felt too guilty to stay. I couldn't live with myself knowing I killed you but thankfully, you survived it"
I narrowed my eyes and pinned him to the wall with the tip of my knife pressed to his throat.
"What's stopping me from killing you now?" I said.
"I'll admit that I was once envious of you. I mean, my parents were both faeries but you're a half blood. Our father loved you the most. I'm a pure blood but I wasn't given the power of the chimaera. You're a half blood but you're so powerful. But I realized that I just had to get over it. You deserve the spotlight. You know deep down that I would never do that to you if I was in my right mind" he choked out.
Luke placed a hand on my shoulder, his silver eyes glowing. "He's telling the truth" he said.
I slowly let go of Matthias and turned away from him.
"Daeron, I know you still don't trust me but I'll do anything to make you understand that I hold no grudges against you" Matthias said.
I closed my eyes briefly.
"What do you want from me?" I said.
"I came to warn you"
I stiffened.
"Taerus is trying to take over the land of the mundanes. He wants to control the whole universe. He's coming for you. He has a whole army of both demons and dark faeries"
I clenched my jaw, annoyed.
My uncle was clearly not contented with ruling the four lands.
"I know you'll need every help you can get. I just want to let you know that I'm on your side"

DEVON
Karla had left few hours earlier. She'd visited and we'd both spent some time in front of the TV, watching chick flicks and talking about my adventure in the fae kingdom. When I told my mum about my necromancy ability, She was shocked speechless. I think she has mixed feelings about my necromancy ability. Melvin stepped into my room and plopped down one my bed, folding his arms behind his head.
"Heard about your necromancy ability" he said and I snickered.
"Did you really hear about it?" I said and he laughed.
"Fine, you got me there. I'm a seer... I don't need to hear things before I know things. Wait, that rhymed"
I rolled my eyes.
"Necromancy is really cool, ya know" he said.
I shrugged.
"Well, I'm only going to use it when I have to"
He grinned.
"I bet it'll be cool to watch" he said. "I'm not a TV show, Mel"
He laughed and rolled off my bed. "Lover boy is on his way. I'm leaving now" he said and left my room.
I rose to my feet when Theo stepped into my room through the window. I grinned and walked up to him. He gave me a smile and kissed me. "Are you okay?" I asked, brushing his hair out of his eyes.
"I'm okay" he whispered.
"How did the de-runing go?" I asked. He shrugged and took off his hoodie. His arms were bare. There were no runes marking his skin.
"Let me see it" I said.
He took off his T-shirt, exposing his smooth skin. The only rune left was our bonding rune.
"Did it hurt?" I asked, my fingers tracing his skin.
"A little" he shrugged.
"You know you'll always be beautiful no matter what. I don't think that there's anything that can mar your beauty" I said and he smiled.
We stood there with his arms around me.
"There's something on your mind, what's it?" I asked.
He sighed and sat down on my bed. "I met Matthias today while I was heading home" he said and I tensed up. "Did he do anything to you?" I asked.
"No....he didn't. He told me some things though" Theo said as I massaged his tense shoulders. He told me everything Matthias said to him. I was stunned by it all.
"If your uncle is trying to take over the whole world, Theo we've got to stop him" I said. "I know....but I'm worried about you. We're going to be facing dark forces and you barely know how to defend yourself against them"
"Maybe you can teach me how" I suggested.
"I can do that....but I'll have to give you some of my fairy magic" he said and I grinned.
"Well that isn't too bad" I said, running a hand through his hair. He closed his eyes when I began to massage his scalp and the back of his neck. I kissed the birthmark on his temple, watching him smile.
"My SAT exams are taking place from tomorrow" I said.
"I've always known you're a smart girl. I'm sure you'll do fine" he said.
"I love you" I whispered.
"I love you, too" Theo said, running a hand through my hair.
*********
The next day, I woke up to see that Theo had gone. He left me a note and a bouquet of roses.
'Good morning, love.
Hope you like the flowers.
I wish you good luck on your SAT exam.
Make me proud, you've got this.
You should come over after school.
I'll see you soon, okay?
Love you xx'
I grinned and placed the note and the roses on my nightstand. Humming to myself, I ambled into the bathroom and shut the door behind me. I undressed and stepped into the bathtub. I had a warm bath and toweled myself dry before getting dressed.
"Devon! Karla is here!" Mum yelled from downstairs.
I quickly put on a perfect light make up and grabbed my backpack.
"You're all smiles today, what's the secret?" Karla said as I had breakfast.
"Am I not allowed to be happy?" I asked.
"Oh honey, you're very much permitted to be happy. Ever since everything returned to normal, you've become really happy"
I shrugged, bringing more cereals to my mouth.
"Yeah, yeah.... whatever you say, darling"
Melvin came downstairs, looking frantic and all.
"Mel? What's wrong?" I asked. "Dev- something really bad is going to happen soon" he said.
I raised a brow.
"What exactly are you talking about?" Karla asked, frowning.
"I can't tell you that. But, you're going to loose someone soon" Melvin said to me.
"W-what? Are you talking about Theo?" I asked, my voice shaky.
He grinned.
"Never mind..... damn, you should've seen your face" he said and went upstairs.
"What the hell was that?" Karla said.
"Just Melvin being a sweetheart. Let's go" I said
"Here we go again with your sarcasm" Karla said, chuckling as we got into my car.
....
THEO
"Are you that desperate that you had to follow me all the way home?" I said to Matthias bringing my cup of cafe latté to my lips.
"I had to make sure you were safe" he said.
"For goodness sake, I'm not a child-"
"But you're royalty"
I groaned, turning to face him. "So are you"
"Well, I'm definitely not the crown prince. I'm definitely not the chimaera legend" he said and I scoffed.
"What I'm trying to say is that I don't need two bodyguards. Luke is already acting as one and it's getting annoying" I said.
"Deal with it. Right now, Luke's not here. So, I'm standing in gap"
I rolled my eyes.
"You don't-"
The door bell rang and I walked up to the door. I opened it, surprised to see Melvin standing at the door with his face deathly pale.
"Melvin? What's wrong?" I asked. "Can I come in?" He asked and I stepped aside, letting him walk in.
His gaze fell on Matthias. He narrowed his eyes, turning to look at me.
"What is he doing here?"
"I have no idea" I said.
"I need to talk to you alone" Melvin said.
Matthias didn't budge.
"It's fine, Matthias. I've got this" I said. He left the sitting room. "No eavesdropping, Matthias!" I yelled.
"What did you want to tell me?" I asked, taking a seat on the couch.
"I had a dream last night. A nasty one"
"Okay?" I said, still not understanding where he was going with the conversation.
"It was like a battle field. Your uncle, Taerus was there. You were both involved in a heated brawl. But then, he stabbed you in the chest with a sword made of dragon blade"
I lowered my cup, staring at him blankly.
"I don't know how it happened but you killed him. There's just one problem, you-"
"Died" I completed the statement for him and he nodded.
"How many times did you have that dream?" I asked.
He sighed.
"I lied, last night wasn't the only time I dreamt about it. I've dreamt this same dream thrice. I never finish the dream. After you die, I see my sister sitting in a coffee shop. She looks a few years older. She sees someone and the shock on her face is hard to miss. I never get to see who she's looking at"
"Your point?"
"It might mean that you'll come back even after your death"
"I've cheated death so many times. Do you honestly believe that I'm going to get away with this one more time?"
Melvin's gaze met mine.
"Yes, I think so"
Shortly after Melvin narrated his dream, Matthias walked in.
"Daeron, he's attacking by sunset" He said and my eyes widened.
Melvin clasped my hand firmly. "This is it. You know you can't fight the inevitable. Use your remaining time rightly" he said and left the house.
"Daeron, what is he talking about?" Matthias said.
"It's nothing important" I lied. If only Matthias knew what my fate was.
