SHEA I moved backwards, my knees buckling underneath me. They were threatening to give out and send me crashing to the ground. I needed to get away from her. "I-I have to go," I said. Her gaze softened. "It's fine. But, at least can I have your number? I can give you mine too" I stared at her for a beat, then I sighed and took out my phone. After we'd exchanged contacts, I drove off. *** Monday and Tuesday went by in a blur. I'd resumed in Liam's company as his P. A. He wasn't really bad, he was just a little bit too demanding. My headaches had worsened by the time it was Wednesday. After meeting Rachel, I found myself thinking about her a lot. I felt like I knew her but it was hard to figure it out. Devon on the other hand, was ignoring my text messages. She wouldn't even pick my calls. She was clearly avoiding me. Was I that big of a problem? I mean, I already carried so much confusion around me, I was clearly a burden to everyone, including myself even though I didn't know how. "Shea, get your ass off that chair. We have a meeting with one of my clients right now," Liam said through the phone even though he was practically just opposite the large office we both shared. "Alright sir," I responded and put down the phone. Rolling my stiff shoulders, I left my desk and went over to his own side of the office. He handed me his suitcase and straightened the lapels of his suit jacket right before he grabbed his phones and wallet. "Let's go," he said. I bit my lower lip, shaking my head when a feeling of lightheadedness washed over me. "You good?" Liam asked as we got into the elevator. "Yeah, I'm good." He nodded, watching me intently. "So, I was wondering, are you into Devon?" My eyes widened and I immediately lowered my gaze, my muscles tensing up. "No, why would you say that?" I asked. "I don't know, man. I just- Nevermind" he said. The elevator pinged and we got out on the ground floor. "Have a great day, Mr Davenport" Lucy, the receptionist said, flashing me a coy smile even though she was actually talking to Liam. "You too, Lucy." We got into his very expensive limo. "Shit," I cursed under my breath when I realized that I hadn't completed the paperwork I'd been working on earlier. "Did you say something?" He asked. "No, just making mental notes" I blurted. Heraised a brow but didn't say anything. I gritted my teeth, clenching my fists when my headache became more intense. The building pressure behind my eyes was riling me up. Trust me, it wasn't funny. I took deep breaths, trying to keep myself calm. We arrived at our destination. Then, we got out and stepped into the vast building. "Mr Shawn, this is my P.A, Shea Rolland" Liam introduced me to our very wealthy client, a tall blond with bushy eyebrows and a mustache. "Mr Rolland, it's a pleasure to meet you. This is my P.A, Veronica Leech." Veronica winked at me when the others were having a conversation. She was basically taking off my clothes with her eyes. What the hell? During the meeting, I zoned out. Really, I didn't mean to. It just happened and by the time I snapped out of it, the meeting was over. "Hello handsome," Veronica said to me while Mr Shawn and Liam were having a hearty conversation. "What do you think? We should hang out sometime together. I will definitely like to know more about you, pretty face" I rolled my eyes, feeling sick to my stomach when she touched the exposed skin of my collarbone. "I'm not interested, Ms. Leech" I said. She pouted, reaching out to hold my hand. I flinched and moved away from her. She sighed. "Come on, pretty face -" "My name is definitely not pretty face. It's Shea for goodness sake" I hissed, exasperated. "Come on, it's not like you have a girlfriend or something" She said, her hand trailing up my arm. I cringed, moving away from her. My head was hurting really bad, plus I was irritated by how hard she was trying to seduce me. Liam returned shortly. I shook hands with Mr Shawn right before we started to leave the building. "What was that back there?" Liam asked. "What're you talking about?" I asked, confused. "You looked totally out of it. You practically zoned out for as long as the meeting held. Man, have you been seeing a doctor or something? I think you're not okay. Shea..." He was saying something but I wasn't listening. I couldn't breathe, it felt like someone was bashing my skull with a club. I squeezed my eyes shut, clutching the sides of my head, unable to bear the pain any longer. "..... wrong?" I felt Liam grip my biceps to snap me out of it but I was just too far gone. I practically didn't know where I was. It was like I'd lost consciousness but was still awake. I slowly melted into darkness' embrace. ***** DEVON The sky is clear with the sun shining bright. There's no one else in the woods apart from me. The birds are chirping and there's the sound of running water coming from ahead. I move closer, a smile tugging on my lips as I move branches aside. The multicolored waterfall and river are in full view at this point. It's beautiful, stunning, even. It's as clear as glass but as beautiful as a rainbow. While admiring it's beauty, I move further. There's someone sitting on a small rock by the river bank. Frowning, I move closer still. It's a male fae. He's sitting with his back facing me."Hello?!" I say as I approach him. When I move close enough, the faerie rises to his feet and turns to face me. I gasp when I take in the sight of his glowing golden eyes and beautiful face. "Theo!" I gasp and embrace him. He presses a kiss to my forehead with a grin on his face. I place a hand on his face, feeling the smoothness of his skin. "I missed you so much!" I say, kissing his dimpled cheek. "I missed you more" he says. He looks so happy, it warms my heart. "Where are we?" I ask. "That's the Yren waterfall, remember?" I nod, resting my head on his chest. I close my eyes as the scent of lemons invade my senses. "I love you so much, Theo. I want you back" I say to him. "Believe me, all I want is to be by your side again, my love" he says to me, stroking my hair. "I need you, Theo. Without you, I feel so empty" I whimper, squeezing my eyes shut. "Don't say that, my love. I'm so sorry you feel that way. Remember what I said to you the day I told you about my chimaera tattoo?" He asks. I frown, opening my eyes to look at him. "You said a lot of things to me that day.... I.." "Remember what I said about my living or dying?" Tears prick my eyes as I nod. "You said that whether you live or die it all lies in my hands. But Theo, you're dead. Not even my necromancy ability worked on you" I sigh. He shakes his head, tucking my hair behind my ear. "Have a little faith, My love. Please stop pushing me away" he whispers. "I don't understand" I say, resting a hand on his chest. His chest is cold and there's no heartbeat. I start to sob hysterically. "Don't go, please" I whisper, sniffling weakly. "I'm not going anywhere, Dev. I'll always be there for you. Always" he says, gazing into my eyes. "Theo-" He starts to fade away and I begin to sob all over again. Blood is pouring out of the wound on his chest. He's still smiling, his eyes shining bright. He holds my hand and kisses my knuckles before pressing a featherlight kiss on my forehead. "I love you so much, Dev. Never forget that. Please don't let your misery blind you. You have to help me. You hold the answers in your hands. Only you" he whispers and fades away from sight. A heavy wind begins to drag me away. The whole place is turning dark. I'm crying and screaming for Theo. But then, in the darkness, a pair of familiar green eyes are watching me. .. With a loud gasp, I sat up on my bed, tears streaming down my cheeks. The dream had felt so real. All of a sudden, an intense pain exploded in my head, I curled up on my bed, clutching my head in my hands. Just as quickly as it had come, it vanished. I'd woken up earlier only to realize that I had the flu. I'd called Karla and had asked her to lend me her notes after today's lectures. Thereafter, I'd laid down on my bed and had fallen asleep. I wiped the tears away from my face even though I was having trouble holding back the tears that was threatening to spill. I buried my head in my hands wondering what Theo had meant by 'You hold the answers in your hands' I didn't understand why he'd asked me to help him. How? I just didn't get it. Maybe it was just a dream. But then, I've had a history of dreams that were actually trying to tell me something. I wished someone would tell me something..... anything. Melvin was just too cryptic. My phone rang and I picked the call. It was Liam. "How're you feeling now, Dev?" He asked. "Better" I said. "That's good-" "You sound stressed" I pointed out and he heaved a sigh. "Shea and I went for a meeting today. He was clearly not feeling well but he didn't say anything about it. On our way back, he passed out. I had to take him to the hospital" he said. "What did the doctor say?" I asked, feeling very worried. "Something about his amnesia. Apparently, he might've met someone who tried to make him remember something. Unfortunately, it put a strain on him. I'm afraid I might have to replace him. The problem is that it's hard to find someone as efficient as he is" "Liam, you don't have to fire him. He probably just needs a few days off" I said. "Well, I might consider that" "You know he's gone through a lot already"Liam sighed. "Fine, I'll see you later okay?" "Okay" The line went dead. My heart ached for Shea. I made a mental note to pay him a visit sometime soon, hopefully. ..... SHEA It's been three awful days since I came home from the hospital. I've become even more restless. My insomnia was back, officially. Liam was probably going to fire me. I believed there was something awfully wrong with me. I mean, I'd gone on the net, I'd seen therapists, I'd also met some other amnesiac people. They had started to rebuild their lives. Whereas, I was just stuck. Would my life ever become normal? I sighed, staring at my reflection in the mirror. It just felt like I was all alone. It was depressing. The door bell rang and I froze. I was'nt expecting anyone. Infact, I had never had visitors. I grabbed a grey T-shirt and put it on while I headed to the door. I slowly twisted the door knob and pulled it backwards. Standing in front of my door was the last person I wanted to see. What the hell was she doing here and how did she know where I lived? "Devon?" I breathed, surprised. "Hi, can I come in?" She asked, peering up at me through her long lashes. Shit, did things just get better or worse? Heck, I couldn't tell.
