Chapter 38 Fireworks

DEVON
Two weeks had passed since Shea discovered Theo's photo in my sitting room. I felt so bad for everything I'd put him through.
What I didn't understand was how he knew about my brothers. If he wasn't Theo, then who was he? Why had he been dreaming about Theo and I?
'Theo is dead, stupid. He's gone and never coming back. Don't you think that Shea might've been sent into your life to destroy you? What if all this is a trap? You watched him die and you know deep down inside you that Theo is gone. Stop assuming things' my subconscious reprimanded me.
I decided that it was better to avoid him. All he did was put my mind in turmoil. Okay, not just that. He made me feel things I shouldn't be feeling. I had a boyfriend for goodness sake.
I was sitting in front of my mirror, debating on whether I would go with the nude lip gloss or the red lipstick. Liam was having some sort of get together in his company. I wasn't really listening when he was telling me about it. He'd invited high class people and some of his clients. According to him, it would be a 'big' celebration...bla bla bla. You see, Liam had a thing for social functions. I guess, you wouldn't mind throwing several parties especially when you're really rich.
I decided to go with the red lipstick after weighing the options for quite sometime. After my makeup was done, I started to curl my hair into smooth waves. When I was done, I picked up my purse and rose to my feet. My dress was pitch black with gold outlines. It hugged my curves perfectly.
There was a knock on the door. I moved towards the door and opened it. Liam was standing there with a smile on his face. His eyes roved over my dress and I resisted the urge to squirm.
"You look beautiful, girlfriend" he said, taking my hand in his. He was dressed in a black tux and a white shirt. I locked the door and allowed him to lead me to the limo. Classic Liam. By the time we got to the venue of the event, I let out a gasp. "Woah"
"Beautiful, right?" Liam asked, leading me into the well decorated hall. "Absolutely," I breathed.
The guests began to arrive shortly. Liam introduced me to some of them. "There you are, Dev! Woah, look at you. You're so rocking that dress!" Karla said, embracing me. We exchanged some air kisses and smiled at each other. "How're you enjoying the party?" I asked Karla."It's awesome. Chris! Come over!" Karla said to a tall brown haired man who was standing not too far away with a glass of champagne in hand. He approached us with a smile on his face."Holy macaroni, Is this Chris? I mean highschool Chris?" I gasped. He grinned.
"In the flesh"
"Wow! You look.... manly" I said and he laughed. His voice was really deep.
We hung out for a bit, chatting lazily. Soon, the event kicked off. Shea stepped into the hall, few minutes after the event had kicked off. His raven black hair was swept to the side, some of it flopping over his left eye. He looked pretty hot in a dark blue tuxedo and a white shirt underneath. I turned away when he looked in my direction.
Towards the end of the event, Liam was hanging out with his clients. I decided to go outside the hall for some air. It was dark outside and the air was cool.
"You've been avoiding me" said a very familiar voice. I slowly turned to look at the person I'd been avoiding for two weeks. He looked more gorgeous up close.
"No, I've just been busy" I said, fidgeting nervously. I felt like he could see right through me and the only person who could do that with ease was Theo. "Okay" he rasped.
"Wait, what?"
"I bought your lie. Isn't that what you wanted?" He asked. I sighed and turned to face him.
"I'm sorry if I've made you feel like a fool. Ever since I saw you, everything started to feel weird. I've been lying more frequently. I feel so different--and I don't know if it's a good thing"
"So, what you're saying is that I confuse you?" He asked, looking amused.
"In a good way" I blurted out, my eyes widening.
Shoot, did I just say that?
A smile tugged at his lips as he stared in front of him.
"I make you feel confused in a good way?" He said.
My cheeks went pink.
"I'm being weird" I groaned.
He laughed. And oh boy, butterflies erupted in my stomach!
"Wait, I make you feel weird too?"
I blushed, biting my lower lip.
"That's a lot of side effects" he said, burying his left hand in his pocket.
"Shut up" I muttered.
"Whatever you say, Señorita."
I ran a hand through my hair, hoping that my hair would hide the fact that my face had turned fifty shades of pink.
"Devon! There you are, you silly child! I've been looking for you--" Karla's voice trailed off when she saw Shea. "Holy moly--Dev, what am I seeing?" She said, her eyes wide.
"This is Shea, a friend" I said.
"Oh my God, oh my God! He looks like--him" Karla said.
Shea looked confused.
"Look like what?" He asked.
"Karla!" I hissed, snapping her out of her daze.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Shea. I was just saying that you look like my exboyfriend. Apparently, you're not him" she said, giving him a bright smile.
Poor Shea. He looked like he was having a migraine trying to figure out what was really going on.
"Nice to meet you too, I guess?" He said.
Karla grinned.
"Can I borrow her for a bit?" She asked.
"Uh...sure."
Karla didn't hesitate. She grabbed my hand and led me a few feet away from him.
"Are you blind?" She asked, waving a hand in front of my face.
"Of course not!" I snapped.
"Good. How can you not see that he's not who he says he is!" Karla whisper-yelled.
"Pardon me?"
"That is Theo!" She said."No, he's not. He only looks like him" I said.
Karla groaned and brought a hand to her forehead. "Don't you see it? I'm not the one who dated Theo. I'm not the one who kissed him several times! I'm not the one who got to hold him several times. How can you not see that he is indeed your soulmate?" she hissed.
"I-"I stared at Shea. I still couldn't believe it. I mean, he'd had three years to come back to me if he was actually Theo. Besides, I'd watched him die, his heart had stopped. He'd faded away.
"What if you're wrong?" I asked Karla.
"Fine! If I'm wrong, I'll pay you ten bucks. If he is Theo, you'll pay twenty bucks"
"Deal" I said and she snickered.
"You can go back to him. He's waiting" she said.
I rolled my eyes and went back to him. He was rubbing his temples and had a faraway look in his eyes."Shea? Are you okay?" I asked. "It's just a headache" he said, blowing out a breath.
"Then, you should go home and get some rest" I said.
"I'm technically not allowed to. Your boyfriend is my boss and I can't leave unless he asks me to. Besides, the headaches has been reappearing for quite some time now."
"Is it related to your amnesia?" I asked and he nodded.
"Shea, I don't think it's normal to still be getting headaches three years after you were diagnosed with amnesia. Have you been seeing a therapist?" I asked.
"I did for sometime. The therapies were a waste of time. It didn't help" he said, lowering his gaze.
A strand of his hair fell over his forehead, hanging just below his ear. My fingers itched to brush it aside. I knew I shouldn't be having these thoughts, but they just kept coming. He looked at me and my heart started to pound harder. He was looking at me the way Theo would look at me. Liam had never looked at me that way.
"Why are you staring at me like that?" I asked when I finally found my voice.
"You've got something on your eyelashes" he said. I raised my hand to touch my eyelashes but he beat me to it. "Here, let me take it out for you" he said, his fingers brushing my eyelashes.
Up close, I noticed the golden specks in his green eyes. 'I must be imagining it' I thought. I honestly have no idea how my gaze drifted to his cherry red lips. I was worried that I was going nuts already.
His gaze slowly drifted downwards and settled on my lips. My toes began to curl in anticipation. We began to lean in towards each other. My brain had shut down and all I could think of was how badly I needed to kiss him. It was like there was a magnetic force pulling us closer. The moment his lips touched mine, my eyes slipped close. My fingers found their way into his silky hair. His lips felt familiar. He simply stole my breath away.
When we pulled apart, I felt dazed. His eyes were wide with unbelief. I couldn't believe I'd just kissed him. I'd just cheated on my boyfriend. I should feel guilty, right? Unfortunately, the guilt wasn't there because my heart was doing somersaults in my chest. My gaze met his and I felt like my chest would burst open.
'He. Is. My. Theo. Holy Macaroni!' I screamed internally.
"I-" he blinked, clearing his throat.
"Oh Crap, I cannot believe that I just kissed my boss' girlfriend" he sighed, running a hand through his hair. I bit my lower lip.
"I don't feel bad about that, does it make me a bad person?" I asked. He looked at me, eyes as bright as crystals.
"I don't think so. Apparently, I really wanted to kiss you. Liam is going to be mad if he finds out"
"Do you-Do you regret kissing me?" I asked, cautiously.
Helooked at me carefully.
"You want to know the truth?" He asked. I nodded. "I do not regret kissing you. Maybe it makes me a bad person, but I-- I want to kiss you again" he whispered. I swallowed hard, my gaze meeting his. Our lips were inches apart.
"Then, do it" I breathed. The corners of his lips curved upwards right before his lips met mine.
'This must be a dream. If it's a dream, I really don't want to wake up' I thought. At that moment, fireworks were going off in my head, my heart happy dancing in my chest. I also think that my lungs were too excited, they could barely take in air. His phone rang and we pulled apart. There was a name on the screen 'Rachel'.
"I've got to take this" he said. Rachel. How did she know that he was alive? How did I not know this? Shea had all along been my soulmate, Theo. How could I have doubted the truth that had been right in front of me, the whole time?
