Chapter 11

Chioma and Gloria became more scared as Dragon pointed his index finger at them. The look on Alhaji Danjuma's face made their hearts beat faster than normal.
"Oh God is this how I am going to end my life" Gloria whispered silently as tears flowed down her cheeks. Chioma was grief-stricken too and wept silently.
Alhaji and Dragon quickly turned to the right-hand side of the building. Alhaji had dragged him alongside. "Walai, I no like the kind of work you do for me this time. You for don tell me say you no know the woman very well. I for tell you properly. Sebi I tell you the car she dey use. Abi I no tell you?" Alhaji asked, looking perplexed.
"Wetin you dey talk now? Alhaji, please, I am not joking here! What do you mean? Was this not the picture of the car you show me and the name of the estate?" Dragon brought out his phone to show Alhaji the picture of the said car. Alhaji peered into it and sensed that the car looked alike but had different plate numbers. Alhaji was more confused this time around.
"Alhaji, I no understand you again o. Which kain wrong information be this na? You no do your homework very well o" Dragon poured out his words in frustration.
"Me too, I no understand myself. Do you mean say na the same car and even the color na the same? Walai! This is a big mistake. Kai! I don enter am today, today"
"What is going on here?" Kay money, who had wanted to use the restroom beside where they were discussing stumbled on their discussion. What he overheard and the look on their faces convinced him that all was not well.
"Walai, I don make am for a big mistake. Kai! Na the lawyer I want to make you bring for me. A friend tell me to say she dey come to that estate today. Me, I no know say another pesin dey use am for the same car. I have been wan collect am for important documents for her hand and kill am pata pata so that my opponent for court go lose the case. Walai if I no see am today, I go to court tomorrow and dem fit locked me in prison. I pray make dem no give me life imprisonment. Set in I go do now?" Alhaji was so much worried and had started sweating profusely. All that Alhaji had been saying was gibberish to Dragon and Kay's money. They seemed not to understand a thing.
"What exactly is the issue? Please, tell us in detail. At least, a corpse never hides from people that will bury him. We are the same. Let us know exactly the problem and know how to proceed immediately" Kay's money pressed further.
Alhaji explained to them that he had done a business with a friend worth one hundred and fifty million Naira and the business yielded two hundred and fifty million nairas in profit. The money was deposited into his account and because he wanted all the money for himself to run for the position of senator (an election he eventually lost to another party candidate), he had to have his friend executed by hired assassins on his way home from work. The friend had come for his money after twelve months of keeping cool with Alhaji. Alhaji had earlier pleaded to give him some time to pay him back. That he had used the money to settle some bills. His friend had had enough as he needed to pay back a loan he had collected from the bank. He barged into Alhaji's office one sunny afternoon to ask demand his money. Unknown to Alhaji, he had all their words recorded on his phone. After much disagreement, Alhaji threatened to kill him if he wouldn't stop asking for his money. The recording was discovered by the deceased's wife a week later. He had forgotten to take his phone to work the day he was murdered. Alhaji was invited to the Police station for questioning and later released on bail so he could prepare for the charges levied against him in court.
Barrister Rebecca was the prosecuting lawyer in charge of the case and had the recorded conversation between Alhaji and the murdered man. She used the same model of Toyota Camry car used by Gloria. Gloria had even teased her over it. "This one that you are using the same type of car I am using, you will pay a fine o." Barrister Rebecca smiled and bought her a wine which she collected cheerfully.
Being in charge of Ngozi's case, the Barrister had been coming from time to time to gather information on her husband's death and his property. Somehow, the information had gotten to Alhaji about the movement of Barrister Rebecca. Alhaji had wanted to have her kidnapped so that the charges against him would be dropped.
The night was fast approaching and they were yet to find any solution to Alhaji's current problem. Alhaji needed to act fast because he was scared of appearing in court and being found guilty. He believed there was no way he could win the case. His lawyer had notified him there was evidence to be presented in court against him. Had it been there was nothing of such, he would have known how to scale through. His lawyer had told him there's no way he could avoid being interrogated in court. Though the lawyer had lectured him on what to say when questioned, Alhaji knew fully well that he couldn't win the case.
"Time don dey go. Wetin we go do now? Where do we go find the lawyer go for this dead hour of the night? Person wey we no see for broad daylight, how we go take see am for the night?" Dragon lamented. Skipo joined them in their discussion this time.
'Wetin we go do now? As in wetin we go do now?" Skip asked retroactively.
"Walai, I go double for your money. Pliz, I go pay you very well. Please, find Barrister Rebecca for me. My life depends on this" Alhaji pleaded in his thick Hausa accent. He was about to prostrate before them to show his desperation but Kay's money held him up.
"Haba Alhaji! It hasn't gotten to that extent. We will think of what to do fast"
"Wetin sef? We can't do anything o! There's no way we can get that lawyer o. We can't just find her. We be witch?"Dragon said angrily.
"No. Don't talk like that. Haven't we done something riskier before? It is hundred percent possible. We can do it. Alhaji, relax. We are going to fetch that lawyer tonight, so far as she lives on the surface of the earth, she will be found." Kay assured Alhaji. Alhaji felt a little bit relieved. He believed solely in Kay money's words. Kay money later dragged Dragon to a corner to whisper some words to him.
