Luke watched me keenly as I walked around, making sure I don't forget anything. I knew I didn't have much to forget, I just wanted to stay a little longer. It would be weird for me to stay, but I knew I didn't want to leave either. "Do you really have to leave?" he said, walking up to me. He looked downcast, and his eyes bored into mine. "I can't stay, Luke. I have other things to do." He blinked and gave a small sigh. "Just until evening?" I shook my head. "Sorry, Luke." He gave a small smile of defeat and nodded. "It's fine. Nothing to apologize for. I had a great time thanks to you." I smiled and he walked away to pack the cookies he said he would, even though I wasn't sure I would have the appetite to eat them now. I swallowed as he came back, then handed it to me. I stretched my hand to collect it, but he moved it away and pulled me to him instead. He held me in his arms, and I naturally buried my face in his shoulder. He felt warm and nice, and I perceived the beautiful scent of him. It was weird how as his wife, I never saw any of these. As his wife, I never appreciated the things he was, the person he was and the pure innocence he came with. For some reason, I felt like, not just in the past, but in the present, there were still so many things about him that I might just never get to see. "I don't want to force you to stay, but can I have twenty minutes with you this way?" his voice was soft and I nodded. Hell, I needed those twenty minutes too, even if twenty minutes is all that I have got. I wrapped my arms around him too, pulling him in more. He dropped the cookies on a nearby table, and pulled me closer, his hand patting my hair. I could feel the skin of his face on my slightly exposed neck and I closed my eyes. "I will be the one to drop you off, okay?" I nodded. He didn't let go of me still, and we stayed there for some time. I slowly disentangled from him, and he gave a small sigh. "You will be okay, right?" I asked him. He nodded, and smiled a little. "Of course. We can always share the sunset from where ever we are." I laughed at the reference and his smile broadened. I picked up the cookies and he held my hand. We stepped out together, and he closed the main door, then took me to the car. He opened the door and went around, just as I heard his name being called. I turned to where he was standing. I could only see half of the person but I knew who it was. His mother, Mrs. Catherina. I put up my hoodie and turned around. The last thing I needed was for her to see me with her son. "Luke. I called you so many times but..." He sighed. "I wanted alone time mum. It has to be important if you came all the way here." Silence fell between them and I turned to see. She was handing him a small card. "It is for your father's wake keeping. It will be on saturday." I saw Luke collect the card and he turned away immediately. "I know the wake keeping is for viewing, but I want the coffin sealed. You saw how bad the accident was." Luke turned to her. "Or you just don't want to see him even if its the last time you ever will? He is dead, mum. He is dead. Does he still disgust you that much?" She shrugged. "I won't change my mind about it." Luke laughed humorlessly. "I never expected you to, to be honest. I would appreciate it if you stay away from here at least. It would be much better that way." She said nothing, and he turned away and entered the car. I looked down, so the hoodie would cover my face as we backed out and he drove off at full speed. The ride was silent, and I kept glancing at Luke, who looked about to burst at the seams. He drove with one hand while the other rested on the compartment between us. He constantly bit down on his lower lip, and his brows furrowed darkly. "Hey..." I said, holding his hand. He turned briefly to me, then turned back to the road. "I am okay, Karla." he said. "I will cone to the wake too. That will be fine, right?" He turned to me again, just as we rounded to the familiar streets that led to my house. "I would love it." I gave a small smile and patted his hand comfortingly. He seemed to let go of some steam and we came to a stop in front of my house. "We are here," I said, but made no move to go out. He nodded and turned off the ignition, then turned to me. "We are." I gave a small sigh and grabbed the cookie box and my purse and phone. He looked at them and his eyes grew a little sadder. "So, I will call you later, okay?" I said, feigning lightness. He nodded quietly again. I turned to open the door, when his hand clasped around mine, stopping me. I turned to him, my eyes a little wide "Yes?" He didn't say anything, just leaned forward, releasing my hand to cup my cheek. My breath hitched in my throat as he came closer, the tips of our noses touching, his eyelashes fluttering against mine. He gave a low breath. "Is this okay?" But it felt like he was asking himself more than he was asking me. I looked up to him, unconsciously availing my lips to him. He caught my gaze, then leaned forward and placed a small kiss on the corner of my lips. It wasn't enough for me to taste him, but it was enough to draw a conclusion to what I felt. I watched him as he leaned away. I now knew for sure. I am falling. Falling for the person who would be my husband seven years from now.
